Abstrak :
Graphic elements in packaging design for local and export market are suspected to have different kind of purposes. This is why I am interested to analyze the graphic elements in instant noodle packaging produced by Indofood. The analyzes are including what elements are different and why the designer made them difference. There are a lot of factors that customer choose an instant noodle, like cultural factors, buying and consuming habits. Hopefully, through this research the consumer could understand the importance of graphic element in packaging design.

The packaging design`s important role as a means of marketing communication is growing. This research examines the effect of Monggo size 40 grams` packaging design on impulsive buying in South Jakarta and also examines which one among the dimensions in packaging design (graphic design, structure design, and product information) has the biggest effect on impulsive buying. This research uses the quantitative approach to explain the connection between the two variables. The data was collected through questionnaires filled out by impulsive buyers of Monggo size 40 grams in South Jakarta. A total of 100 respondents are examined using the purposive sampling technique. The result of the research shows that the packaging design affects impulsive buying at a rate of 38.0% and the packaging design dimension that results in impulsive buying is graphic design. We may conclude that Monggo`s management needs to review the brand`s packaging design. As the management is yet to utilize other communicating tools such as advertisements to support marketing communication, the packaging design becomes more crucial in boosting sales. The research also finds that customers have a great liking for the brand name `Monggo`, as it is a very distinctly traditional name that is not only appealing but also noticeable among the current brands.

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa pengaruh visual packaging design terhadap food product quality, food product value dan brand preference serta pengaruh dari atribut kemasan terhadap sikap konsumen pada industri makanan khususnya es krim. Penelitian ini berbentuk experimental dengan menggunakan 300 partisipan, terbagi menjadi 12 kelompok yang akan menerima 12 stimulus berbeda. Data diperoleh melalui metode survei dengan kuesioner yang merupakan adaptasi dari penelitian yang sudah pernah diaplikasikan pada industri makanan Taiwan. Analisis data dilakukan melalui dari uji pendahuluan penelitian yang mencakup uji validitas dan uji reliabilitas. Setelah instrumen penelitian dinyatakan sudah lolos uji, dilakukan analisis struktural menggunakan metode Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), ANOVA dan independent t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa visual packaging design memiliki pengaruh positif pada food product quality dan brand preference, food product quality memiliki pengaruh positif pada food product value dan food product value berpengaruh pada brand preference. Namun food product quality tidak berpengaruh positif pada brand preference. Desain visual kemasan yang berpengaruh positif pada sikap konsumen adalah warna dan desain.
ABSTRACT The aim of this research is to analyze the influence of visual packaging design on food product quality, food product value and brand preference also the influence of packaging attribute on food industry specially ice cream. This research using experimental design that involve 300 participant, divided to 12 group that received 12 different stimulus. Samples with primary data obtained by survey, based on similar research which held on Taiwan. Data analysis procedure was done by preliminary studies involving validity and reliability test. After research instrument passed the reliability and validity test, structural analysis was done by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), ANOVA dan independent t-test. The result of this research showed that visual packaging design has positive impact on food product quality and brand preference, food product quality has positive impact on food product value also food product value has positive impact on brand preference. But food product quality has not have positive impact on brand preference. Attributes that have positive impact on design visual packaging are color and design.

ABSTRAK
Fokus riset ini adalah pentingnya upaya untuk mencapai konservasi nilai material terutama untuk desain produk kemasan plastik fleksibel dengan penggunaan warna dan tinta cetak yang berlebihan akan berdampak pada rendahnya tingkat penerimaan limbah plastik untuk didaur ulang. Pada riset ini memiliki dua tujuan riset, tujuan pertama untuk mengusulkan desain kriteria konservasi nilai material untuk kemasan plastik fleksibel menggunakan pengembangan metode kriteria design for recycling, metode delphi, kuesioner, uji validasi dan reliabilitas, dan analisis faktor untuk menentukan kecukupan data nya. Tujuan kedua melakukan desain ulang konservasi nilai material untuk kemasan plastik fleksibel dengan menggunakan metode observasi, redefining method, dan metode pemberian skor. Proses desain ulang didasarkan pada ketidaksesuaian desain awal dengan desain kriteria konservasi nilai material nya. Hasil riset didapatkan bahwa uji validasi dan reliabilitas untuk rekomendasi terbaik dari desain kriteria didapatkan; (1) Tidak ada pigmen warna pada permukaan material plastik, (2) Warna putih pada permukaan material plastik, (3) Tidak ada tinta cetak dalam pewarnaan, simbol, gambar, grafik dan huruf pada permukaan material plastik, (4) Penggunaan label kertas secara optimal atau label plastik tipis sebagai tujuan informasi dan promosi pengemasan, (5) Tidak ada perekat atau perekat yang larut dalam air atau material perekat yang tidak beracun, dan (6) Meminimumkan penggunaan lapisan (layer) pada proses pembetukan desain kemasan. Sedangkan pada proses desain ulang menunjukkan tingkat penerimaan konsumen yang tinggi untuk desain ulang kemasan plastik fleksibel yang diusulkan dan usulan desain ulang tersebut masih dapat mempertahankan fungsi dari kemasan yaitu sebagai wadah, identifikasi produk dan informasi produk. Penerapan desain kriteria dan desain ulang pada konservasi nilai material untuk kemasan plastik fleksibel diharapkan dapat sebagai referensi untuk mengembangkan inovasi desain kemasan oleh pemangku kepentingan terkait dengan memperhatikan dari aspek kualitas material plastiknya sebelum digunakan sebagai kemasan supaya harga jual hasil daur ulangnya dapat meningkat.
ABSTRACT
Focus of this study is the importance of effort to attain material value conservation, particularly for design of flexible plastic packaging with excessive use of color and printing ink will be affected to the low acceptance level of plastic waste for recycling. This research have two purposes such as to proposed design criteria for material value conservation of flexible plastic packaging using design of recycling method, delphi method, questionnaire, validation and reliability test, and factor analysis to determine the adequacy data. Next purpose is redesign flexible plastic packaging for material value conservation using observation method, redefining method, and scoring method. Redesign process will be based on incompatibility of the initial design with design criteria of material value conservation. The results found that validation and reliability tests for the best recommendations from design criteria flexible plastic packaging consist of; (1) No pigment color in plastic material, (2) White color in plastic material, (3) No printing ink in coloration, symbols, pictures, graph and letters on the surfaces of plastic materials, (4) Optimum use of paper label or thin plastic label as informational and promotional purposes of packaging, (5) No adhesive or water-soluble adhesive and non-toxic material, and (6) Recycle-able material with good value and minimum category of the layer used for packaging. Futhermore, the results of redesign flexible plastic packaging has been shown a high level of consumer acceptance for the proposed design flexible plastic packaging and those design still maintain the function of the packaging as a protecting product, product identification and product information. Implementation of design criteria and the proposed redesign for material value conservation of flexible plastic packaging could be as a reference to develop the phase of innovation design for related stakeholders by paying attention on aspects the quality of material plastic before being used as packaging in order to increase its selling price in recycling processes.
