"Objective: To assess the oral health status and oral hygiene habits of the dependent elderly in Muang Phitsanulok,
Thailand. Methods: 70 dependent elderly with an activity of daily living score of 0 - 4 were selected for this study
using a convenience sampling technique. Both participants and their caregivers were interviewed and an oral
examination was carried out on all subjects. Information regarding demographics, oral health care habits, and oral
health status including dental caries, remaining dentition, and occluding pairs of teeth was collected. The data was
analysed using descriptive statistics. Results: Results showed that 82.1% of the participants had at least one carious
lesion. 62.9% of subjects possessed their natural dentition, however 52% of those did not have any occluding teeth.
The majority of the edentulous group were categorised as a low socioeconomic status. Interestingly, none of the
dentate group reported ever flossing their teeth, 31.9% brushed their teeth twice daily, and 14.3% reported that they
did not employ any oral hygiene methods. Additionally, it was found that the caregivers played a major role in the
oral health care of the dependent elderly. Conclusion: The oral health of the dependent elderly is generally poor,
especially amongst the low socioeconomic community. The subject’s declining dexterity and increase of general health risks limits their ability to maintain acceptable oral health."

Background: The biggest component in DMFT index is tooth loss, and mostly occur in elderly. Tooth loss can affect the ability in chewing food then it may affect the lack of nutrition intake.
Methods: The cross sectional study was performed in 4 community health center in Central Jakarta, South Jakarta and East Jakarta. It was involving 93 elderly age ge 60. The sampling method was convenience sampling. Subjects were submitted to intraoral examination, anthropometric measurement BMI and as well as interview using Mini Nutritional Assessment MNA.
Results: 53,8 subjects have 20 or more sum of natural teeth. 55,9 subjects have risk at malnutrition. The results of correlation test showed that sum of natural teeth, decay teeth, missing teeth, filling teeth, and masticatory performance p 0,05 were not significantly correlated with nutritional status BMI and MNA.
Conclusion: There is no relationship between oral health status and masticatory performance with nutritional status in elderly.

Background: Until recently, the triple burden of malnutrition remains a major health issue in Indonesia and adolescents are one of the most affected population. Oral cavity is the main gate of the digestive system and studies have shown the association between nutritional status and oral health. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the correlation between body mass index and oral health status, unstimulated salivary flow rate and relative quantification of Veillonella parvula in saliva. Method: In a cross-sectional study design, 49 male and 52 female students aged 12-14 year-old were recruited from an Islamic Boarding School in Depok, West Java and clinically examined for the Greene and Vermillion’s debris index. The unstimulated salivary flow rate was determined (ml/min). Anthropometric examinations were carried out for body weight, body height and body mass index per age according to the standards from Ministry of Health Regulations. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to quantify the presence of Veillonella parvula. Results: There is a significant correlation between BMI and relative expression of salivary Veillonella parvula (r= 0.2, p=0.04), however no correlations were found between BMI and OH status, and BMI and unstimulated salivary flow rate. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that there is no linear relationship between BMI and salivary flow rate and/or OH status, however a weak but significant correlation was found between BMI and salivary V parvula. Further studies are needed to investigate relationships between BMI and other nutrition parameters with oral health indicators in the adolescent populations, while considering other Veillonella species."
