The psychopathic personality has always been in the limelight due to its notorious association with criminality. One of the modern constructs of psychopathy is the three-factor model, in which psychopathy is built of eight lower-order factors (content scales) and three higher-order factors: Self-Centered Impulsivity, Fearless Dominance, dan Coldheartedness. This construct resulted from the development of the self-report instrument Psychopathic Personality Inventory, later renewed as Psychopathic Personality Inventory – Revised (PPI-R). This research aims to test the validity and reliability of PPI-R among Indonesian male offenders. The process consists of translating the PPI-R into Indonesian language, a pilot study with ten respondents, revising the translation, assessment of content validation by eleven experts in mental health, and finally data collection from male inmates in Class IIA Correctional Institution in Bogor. Random sampling is used and test-retest is performed with 36-day interval. We find good content validation (I-CVI 0.81-1 and S-CVI 0.91-0.97), very good test-retest reliability (r>0.80; 95%CI), and satisfying internal consistency for total score (α = 0.83) and most content scales (α>0.70). Confirmatory factor analysis finds a fitting two-factor model without Coldheartedness. This latter factor is retained in the final model considering its fundamental place in the concept of psychopathy. The Indonesian version of PPI-R is acceptable for use as a supplement for other methods of examination, keeping in mind certain considerations regarding its construct validity. Further research in the community (non-offenders) and deeper analysis of the instrument itself are warranted."

Antisocial behavior and crime in children and adolescents are crucial problems which occur in Indonesia and various countries. In dealing with this problem, the state organizes a coaching program at the Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak (LPKA). Behavioral problems are often more of a concern, although depression is also a significant problem in this population. Depression in children and adolescents which has different symptoms in adults could be the background of the emergence of behavior problems, and if not immediately recognized and handled can affect the development of children and adolescents themselves. This study aims to describe depressive symptoms and related factors in juvenile offenders in LPKA. This study was an observational study with cross sectional study design, and was conducted in LPKA Kelas I Tangerang in June-September 2018. A total of 86 respondents participated in this study, and the assessment with Child Depression Inventory (CDI), 44,2% of respondents encountered depression symptoms. In the follow-up assessment with the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview for Children and Adolescent (MINI-KID) instrument, it was found that most respondents met the diagnosis criteria fr dystimia, and the most comorbidities were dysthimia and disruption of the use of non-alcoholic psychoactive substances. From the assessment of related factors, it was found that juvenile offenders who underwent a detention period of less than 1 year and were not visited by their families had a greater risk of depression. In the multivariate analysis it was found that bullying was a confounding factor, and consultation to health services during the detention period was not associated with depression. After getting these results, it can be suggested screening depressive symptoms in correctional and adequate treatment. Further research is also needed to study other factors that correlated with depression in juvenile offenders."

"As the worlds prison population continues to grow and with the number of inpatient beds in forensic mental health units on the rise, establishing valid and reliable methods of identifying individuals who will commit violent acts is an important public safety issue. One approach to identifying future offenders is through the use of risk assessment-unstructured and structured methods of predicting the likelihood of antisocial behavior. Although much has been written on the performance of risk assessment methods in research settings, little is known about current standards of practice and relevant public policy across the globe. With chapters contributed by leading scholars in more than 15 countries, this volume explores the topic of violence risk assessment from an international perspective. Using findings from the seminal International Risk Survey, the largest qualitative study in the history of the field, current assessment, management, and monitoring practices on six continents are discussed. The most commonly used risk assessment tools are identified and described, risk communication preferences are examined, and recommendations for mental health practitioners, criminal justice professionals, and policymakers are shared. Finally, seminal research studies, current practice guidelines, and relevant legal statutes of individual countries are reviewed.

"Criminology has experienced tremendous growth over the last few decades, evident, in part, by the widespread popularity and increased enrollment in criminology and criminal justice departments at the undergraduate and graduate levels across the U.S. and internationally. Evolutionary paradigmatic shift has accompanied this surge in definitional, disciplinary and pragmatic terms. Though long identified as a leading sociological specialty area, criminology has emerged as a stand-alone discipline in its own right, one that continues to grow and is clearly here to stay. Criminology, today, remains inherently theoretical but is also far more applied in focus and thus more connected to the academic and practitioner concerns of criminal justice and related professional service fields. Contemporary criminology is also increasingly interdisciplinary and thus features a broad variety of ideological orientations to and perspectives on the causes, effects and responses to crime. 21st Century Criminology: A Reference Handbook provides straightforward and definitive overviews of 100 key topics comprising traditional criminology and its modern outgrowths. The individual chapters have been designed to serve as a “first-look” reference source for most criminological inquires. Both connected to the sociological origins of criminology (i.e., theory and research methods) and the justice systems’ response to crime and related social problems, as well as coverage of major crime types, this two-volume set offers a comprehensive overview of the current state of criminology. From student term papers and masters theses to researchers commencing literature reviews, 21st Century Criminology is a ready source from which to quickly access authoritative knowledge on a range of key issues and topics central to contemporary criminology. This two-volume set in the SAGE 21st Century Reference Series is intended to provide undergraduate majors with an authoritative reference source that will serve their research needs with more detailed information than encyclopedia entries but not so much jargon, detail, or density as a journal article or research handbook chapter.100 entries or "mini-chapters" highlight the most important topics, issues, questions, and debates any student obtaining a degree in this field ought to have mastered for effectiveness in the 21st century."
