"Tesis ini membahas tentang motif Oedipal yang dialami oleh tokoh Enrico yang disebabkan karena tidak tuntasnya masa Oedipalnya, sehingga dia mengalami kompleks Oedipus. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Psikoanalisis Freud yaitu tentang perkembangan psikoseksual anak dan teori kepribadian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Enrico mengalami kompleks Oedipus yang disebabkan adanya jarak dalam hubungan dia dan ibunya. Ibu, dalam perkembangan seksual Enrico muncul sebagai sosok yang memegang kendali, sehingga menyebabkan Enrico tidak bisa menyampaikan perasaan cinta terhadap ibunya. Kematian kakaknya, Sanda dan pelarian ibunya pada agama baru dirasakan Enrico sebagai penyebab ibu mengabaikan kehadirannya. Hasil analisis yang dilakukan menunjukkan adanya motif Oedipal yang berbeda dalam kasus Enrico dengan apa yang diuraikan oleh teori Freud, yaitu mengenai penghambat anak mendapatkan cinta ibunya. Dalam Freud yang menghalangi anak mengekspresikan cinta pada ibu adalah sosok ayah, sedangkan dalam novel ini adalah sosok ibu itu sendiri.

This thesis discusses the Oedipal motive experienced by Enrico caused no completion Oedipal period, so he experienced the Oedipus complex. This study uses the theory of psychoanalysis Freud psychosexual development of children and personality theory. The results showed that the Oedipus complex Enrico suffered due to the distance in the relationship between he and his mother. Mother, in the sexual development of Enrico appear as someone who is in control, thus causing Enrico can’t express the feeling of love towards his mother. Sister's death, Sanda and runaway mother to the new religion as a cause of maternal perceived Enrico ignore its presence. Results of the analysis carried out showed a different pattern in the case of Oedipal Enrico with what was described by Freud's theory, namely the inhibitor son get mother love. In Freud that prevent children from expressing love to the mother is a father figure, while in the novel is itself a mother figure."
