Abstrak :
In this new work, Axford seeks to contribute to the development of global theory, particularly where it engages with the contested idea of globality; a concept which musters as consciousness, condition, framework, even system. By examining emergent globalities through the lens of world-making communicative practices and forms, the author demonstrates their transformative social power and underlines the cultural dynamics of globalization. Taking a critical view of much of the current scholarship on emergent globalities, Axford steps outside the rationalist-territorialist conceptions of association and order and takes issue with those who advise there is a widespread 'myth' of media globalization. The book examines global communicative connectivity, using digital, or "new" media--especially the Internet - as the prime exemplar of global process. As well as the academic importance of such themes for theory-building, the strategic, "real-world" impacts of communicative connectivity are palpable. Thus, the welter of debate around the influence of the Internet on democracy, democratization, revolt and collective action generally, have real purchase when discussed in relation to the events of the uprisings in MENA, anti-capitalist protests in London and New York and the tribulations of the EU in recent months/years. Using such exemplars the book assesses claims for the existence and robustness of global society, the significance of cosmopolitan communication and the extent of global consciousness. The media is often viewed as a primary gauge which reflects the changing political landscape as societies transition from authoritarian regimes to democracies. Chronicling the process through media analysis provides deeper insights into the relationship between technology, the state, and social forces that are reflected in the public's communications. This volume explores the challenges and political conditions that have shaped the media in several representative studies of the media in the Middle East, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Africa. The contributors analyse the legacy of the past on the development of the media in post-authoritarian regimes and explore the relationships between media, communication industries (public relations), and politics. The use of new communications technologies to manipulate the media and the public introduce a novel use of social media by populists as well as authoritarian regimes and their proxies. This book presents a comparative and global investigation of the role of the media in the realignment from established policies to an emerging milieu of new channels of communication that challenge traditional media practices.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memetakan kondisi literasi media baru tenaga perpustakaan sekolah di Kota Depok, Jawa Barat berdasarkan New Media Literacy Framework yang terdiri dari empat variabel literasi yakni functional consuming, critical consuming, functional prosuming, dan critical prosuming. Bagi tenaga perpustakaan sekolah, literasi media baru tidak hanya penting bagi diri mereka sendiri tetapi juga untuk membimbing pemustaka yakni para siswa agar terhindar dari efek negatif media baru seperti berita palsu, provokasi, dan perundungan. Oleh karena itu, literasi media baru merupakan salah satu kompetensi yang wajib dimiliki oleh tenaga perpustakaan sekolah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode survei. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah kuesioner yang disebarkan kepada 44 responden. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa literasi functional consuming tenaga perpustakaan sekolah di Kota Depok masuk ke dalam kategori sangat baik, literasi critical consuming masuk ke dalam kategori baik, literasi functional prosuming masuk ke dalam kategori baik, dan literasi critical prosuming masuk ke dalam kategori cukup baik. Kesimpulannya, literasi media baru tenaga perpustakaan sekolah di Kota Depok masih lebih mengarah kepada kemampuan fungsional. Sehingga diharapkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan dalam berpikir kritis.
This research aims to map the new media literacy of school library staff in Depok, West Java based on the New Media Literacy Framework which consists of four literacies: functional consuming, critical consuming, functional prosuming, and critical prosuming. For school library staff, new media literacy is not only important for themselves but also for guiding the students to avoid the negative effects of new media such as fake news, provocation, and ciber bullying. New media literacy is one of the competencies that must be owned by school library staff. This study used a quantitative approach with survey methods and questionnaires as research instruments. Respondents in this research were 44 school library staff. The results said that functional consuming literacy of school library staff in Depok was very good, critical consuming literacy was good, functional prosuming literacy was good, and critical prosuming literacy was quite good. The conclusion of this research is the functional skills of school library staff in Depok is better than their critical skills. They need to enhance critical thinking skills.

Tesis ini mendeskripsikan Program Promosi “Enjoy Jakarta” yang dilakukan oleh Dinas Pariwisata dan Kebudayaan Provinsi DKI Jakarta dalam upayanya mempromosikan pariwisata di DKI Jakarta. Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan strategi komunikasi yang digunakan yaitu Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) pada bauran New Media (Internet) dan Sponsorship. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan desain deskriptif. 2 jenis metode pengumpulan data yaitu data primer dan data sekunder digunakan dalam pengumpulan data penelitian ini dan metode analisis data dilakukan dengan cara mengolah data yang didapat dari wawancara, data lapangan dan studi pustaka sehingga dapat memberikan gambaran yang lengkap. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, peneliti menemukan bahwa Program Promosi “Enjoy Jakarta” di Dinas Pariwisata dan Kebudayaan Provinsi DKI Jakarta dijalankan di bagian promosi dan tidak adanya bagian humas di struktur organisasi namun ada di kegiatan operasional. Hambatan-hambatan yang dihadapi dalam melaksanakan Program Promosi “Enjoy Jakarta” di Dinas Pariwisata dan Kebudayaan Provinsi DKI Jakarta diantaranya keterbatasan dana dan sumber daya manusia yang kompeten untuk menjalankan program tersebut.
ABSTRAK
This thesis discuss the Enjoy Jakarta Promotional Program in Jakarta Tourism and Culture Office, in order to promote tourism in DKI Jakarta. This thesis describe the strategy used which is Integrated Marketing Communication, specifically on two aspects, New Media (Internet) and Sponsorship. This research was conducted with descriptive design and was a qualitative design. This research used Two types of data collection methods, they are primary data and secondary data and methods of analysis of data was done by processing data obtained from interviews, literature studies and field data so as to provide a complete picture. Based on the results of the study, researchers found that Enjoy Jakarta Promotional Program was conducted by Promotional Office in Jakarta Tourism and Culture Office and was absence of Public Relations Office in the organizational structure but exist in operational activities. Constraints faced in exercising the Enjoy Jakarta Promotional Program were budget constraints and competent human resources to run the program.

Penelitian ini memaparkan bagaimana Media Baru dapat dijadikan Ruang kreatif khususnya dalam era digital. Banyak dari pelaku-pelaku dan tenaga kerja kreatif di Indonesia yang pada akhirnya menghadapi kendala berupa kurangnya ruang untuk berkreatifitas dikarenakan adanya keterbatasan akses tutupnya label yang identik dengan musik non mainstream akibat kurang bisa bersaing di industri musik bersama Major Label. Sebagai alternatif baru hadir sebuah ruang kreatif yang pada awalnya hanya merupakan usaha sampingan justru menjadi ruang kreatif. Usaha sampinganya pun ternyata mampu di terima industri hiburan tanah air dengan keinginan untuk terus berkarya walaupun dengan keterbatasan tempat dan peralatan yang sederhana. Belum lagi di era Globalisai perkembangan konten digital dapat dimaknai sebagai Media Baru terutama hubunganya dengan hak cipta yang terkesan membatasi kreatifitas. Budaya berbagi pun hadir di tengah masyarakat dalam hal distribusi karya musisi tersebut. Penelitian ini menggabungkan kondisi nyata dari riset kualitatif dan wacana mengenai harapan masa depan dari industri Musik yang akhirnya memasuki sebuah konsep Digitalisasi dalam media baru
ABSTRACT
This Research describes and concern how new media can be used as a creative space, especially in the digital age. Many of the actors and creative labor force in Indonesia which ultimately lack the necessary space for creativity because of their limited access to the lid label is synonymous with non-mainstream music due to less competitive in the music industry along with Major Label. As new alternatives present a creative space that was originally just a side business became a creative space. Side job effort also was able to thank the entertainment industry in the country with the desire to continue to work despite the limitations of the equipment and simple. Not to mention that in the era of globalization the development of digital content can be interpreted as the New Media mainly to do with copyright impressed by limiting creativity. Cultural sharing is present in society in terms of distribution of the musician's work. The research combines the real conditions of qualitative research and discourse about the future expectations of the music industry is finally entering a concept Digitalization in new media.

Tesis ini membahas kontestasi pemaknaan atas FPI dalam hubungannya dengan wacana radikalisme Islam dan konstruksi identitas Islam di ruang maya. Dengan melakukan analisis pada argumentasi-argumentasi tekstual dan visual situs FPI (fpi.or.id), pemberitaan aksi FPI dan komentar pengunjung di tiga situs berita online: vivanews.com, tempo.co, dan detik.com, tesis ini menggali konstruksi identitas dan kompleksitas wacana yang berkembang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa wacana radikalisme Islam dan keberadaan FPI di ruang publik Indonesia adalah wacana yang kompleks. Kompleksitas ini tidak bisa dilepaskan dari kontestasi pemaknaan antara identitas bangsa dengan identitas Islam. Kompleksitas ini berlangsung dalam ranah offline maupun ruang Maya. ......This thesis analyses the contestation of signifying practices surrounding FPI in its relation to the discourse of Islamic radicalism and the construction of Islamic identity. Analysing the textual and visual argumentations on fpi.or.id, the articles and comments on three online media: vivanews.com, tempo.co, and detik.com, this thesis explores identity construction and discourse complexity. The result shows that the discourse of Islamic radicalism and the existence of FPI in Indonesian public space are complex. The complexity is related to the contestation between national identity and Islamic identity. This complexity occurs both in offline and online context.

Konsumsi akan tanda dapat mengarahkan masyarakat menuju catastrophe. Sebagai new media Youtube adalah media audio-visual yang sering dikonsumsi oleh masyarakat Indonesia. Dengan kemampuan Youtube untuk mensimulasi dan menciptakan tanda Youtube akan berpegaruh besar bagi masyarakat. ......According to Jean Baudrillard people in postmodern are consuming information in the form of sign which is created by a media and any media will always affect the society. Consumption of signs will bring society to catastrophe. As a new media, Youtube is the audio-visual medium of information that is often consumed by people in Indonesia. With the ability to simulate and create a sign Youtube will have a great impact on Indonesia Society.

Melesatnya peran teknologi informasi, terutama Internet sebagai sarana pemenuhan kebutuhan informasi masyarakat menyebabkan media cetak menghadapi tantangan berat, termasuk surat kabar. Salah satu indikasi tertekannya kehadiran media cetak di tengah gegap teknologi selama dua dekade terakhir adalah merosotnya penetrasi surat kabar. Sebaliknya, jumlah pengguna Internet yang mengakses laman berita terus melesat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kecenderungan mahasiswa Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik Universitas Indonesia (FISIP UI) angkatan 2014 sebagai pembaca media cetak, khususnya surat kabar, di era teknologi informasi. Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif yang dilakukan dengan metode studi kasus. Hasil penelitian mendapati bahwa media yang paling banyak diakses responden adalah media online berupa mesin pencari, yang diikuti dengan kedua terbanyak yang masih merupakan media online juga, yaitu situs situs berita online. Hasil olah data penelitian juga mendapati mayoritas responden (45%) setuju untuk mengkonsumsi media online dan koran. Sebesar 35,2% responden mungkin ingin media online hanya sebagai tambahan dan mayoritas responden (34,3%) tidak setuju jika harus beralih sepenuhnya ke media online.
ABSTRACT
The fast growing role of information technology, especially the Internet as a means of fulfilling the people's needs of information, has made print media, including newspaper, undergo serious challenges. The pressure on print media amid this fast developing information technology is partly observed from the decreasing penetration of printed newspapers into its readership. On the contrary, the number of Internet users, who get accessed to online-media, tend to keep increasing significantly. This research project is aimed at examining the trend of newspaper readers among the University of Indonesia's 2014 Batch of students of the Social and Political Sciences Faculty (FISIP UI) in information technology era. It is a case study by applying a descriptive research with quantitative approach. The outcomes of this study reveal that search engines are the most widely accessed by respondents while news websites are the second Internet-based media that the respondents most freqently accessed. The results of this research project also show that majority of respondents (45%) agree to consume online-media and printed newspapers. A total of 35.2% of respondents tend to use online-media as their additional news sources, and 34.3% of respondents disagree to totally use online-media as their only news sources.
