This study is about city branding This research is motivated bu the potential of citty branding creation as a way to improve regional competitiveness. The purpose of this study is to descrive the various efforts made by the local government of DIY to improve the competitiveness of the region with city Branding. This research uses the qualitative method data collection method is done by triagulation technigue of data source. While data processing researcher does data reduction. The results obtained in this study are first city Branding DIY has been running well rebranding DIY is likely to increase the competitiveness of regions including local revenue. This is evidenced by the increase in investment achieved by the government of Yogyakarta. It' s just that city branding is still focused on tourrism but it can be used for other sectors. Sicond the DIY rebranding (2014) profides many improvenments especially in terms of concept logo and tagline. In addition,the Yogyakarta provincial government has estabilished city branding councils city branding strategy roadmap and governor regulation of city branding in DIY Its just that there has been no evaluation since the rebranding was done by the provincial government of DIY how this rebranding can be implemented by the local goverment and city branding council and there is no extent to which the strategy in the roadmap implemented

Kegiatan investasi pertambangan batubara di Kabupaten Tanah Bumbu ternyata tidak hanya bersifat ekonomi-bisnis melainkan juga mengandung dimensi-dimensi politik dan memberi pengaruh tersendiri terhadap dinamika kekuasaan di arena politik lokal. Kenyataan itulah yang melatarbelakangi studi ini.Tiga pertanyaan utama yang dijawab dan dibahas dalam studi ini. Pertama, bagaimana pola hubungan pemerintah daerah dengan pengusaha tambang batubara serta dampak hubungan tersebut terhadap kebijakan investasi tambang batubara di Kabupaten Tanah Bumbu? Kedua, bagaimana peran politik pengusaha tambang batubara dalam proses pemilihan kepala daerah di Kabupaten Tanah Bumbu? Ketiga, bagaimana dinamika konflik berbasis tambang batubara antara masyarakat lokal dan pelaku usaha serta bagaimana peran pemerintah daerah di dalamnya? Di tataran teoretik, studi ini menggunakan teori oligarki dari Osterman sebagai acuan utama. Selain itu juga menggunakan teori negara Marxis dari Mandel dan Althusser, teori desentralisasi dan politik lokal dari Smith dan Stoker, dan teori konflik dari Rozen, sebagai acuan pendukung.Pada tataran metodologis, studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Temuan pokok studi ini menunjukkan bahwa hubungan pengusaha tambang dengan penguasa lokal dan pejabat-pejabat birokrasi berlangsung dekat karena antarpihak meskipun berbeda kepentingan namun mampu mempertemukan kepentingan tersebut dan sama-sama mengambil keuntungan. Pengusaha tambang mendapatkan kemudahan-kemudahan serta keuntungan ekonomi, sedangkan pengusasa lokal dan pejabat birokrasi mendapatkan keuntungan politik dan ekonomi sekaligus. Hubungan antara pengusaha tambang dengan penguasa lokal terlihat sangat jelas pada saat pemilihan kepala daerah. Dalam sejarah pemilihan kepala daerah langsung di Kabupaten Tanah Bumbu selama ini, pasangan kandidat yang memenangkan kontestasi selalu saja yang mendapat dukungan penuh dari para pengusaha tambang. Pengusaha tambang yang cukup berpengaruh dalam setiap momen pemilihan kepala daerah langsung serta dalam dinamika politik lokal Kabupaten Tanah Bumbu merupakan para pengusaha lokal. Teori-teori yang digunakan dalam studi ini, baik teori utama maupun teori pendukung, sangat membantu dalam memberikan penjelasan terhadap temuantemuan penelitian, serta dalam membentuk kerangka berpikir ketika membangun interpretasi-interpretasi. Memang, satu teori tidak secara utuh bisa menjadi sandara penjelasan, dan karena itu dilengkapi dengan teori-teori yang lain

ABSTRACT
This research is based on the activity of coal mining investment in Tanah Bumbu District that is not merely for economic and business purposes, butalso contains the dimensions of politics which affect the power dynamics in the local politics. Three major questions are answered and discussed by this study. First, what is the relationship pattern between the local government and the coal mining businessmen and how does it affect the policies of coal mining investment in Tanah Bumbu? Second, what is the political role of the coal mining businessmen in the local elections? Third, how is the coal mine-based conflict between the local communities and the coal mining businessmen, and what is the government?s role in it? In a theoretical level, this study uses Osterman?s theory of oligarchy as the main theory. In addition, Mandel?s and Althusser?s theory of Marxist states, Smith?s and Stoker?s decentralization theory and local politics theory, and Rozen?s conflict theory are used as its supporting theories. Furthermore, this study uses a qualitative approach. The principal finding of this study shows that the close relationship between the coal mining businessmen and the local authorities as well as the bureaucratic officers is the result of each party?s interest. Although they have different interests, they managed to combine it and benefit from it. The coal mining businessmen are guaranteed facilities and economic benefits, while the local authorities and bureaucratic officers gains political and economic benefits. The relationship between the coal mining businessmen and the local authorities can be seen clearly during the local elections. Throughout the years, the winning candidates of the Tanah Bumbu local elections are those who gain the support of the coal mining businessmen. Therefore, it is evident that the coal mining businessmen have influence over the local elections and over the dynamics of the local politics in Tanah Bumbu. Both the main and supporting theories used in this study are helpful in giving a clear explanation of the research findings and in forming a framework while constructing the interpretations.
