ABSTRACT
Researches on relevance of financial ratios on stock returns mostly adopt linearity assumptions. This research aims to show the relevance of financial ratios on stock return and to compare the accuracy of linear and non linear models. Linear and non linear multivariate regression models are constructed from several financial ratios towards stock return to identify ratios with significant influences and subsequently compared in regard of their determinations. The samples consist of manufacturing companies listed on IDX from 2009 through 2016 totaling 97 companies. Results of bivariate regressions show consistent relationships exist in form of positive-quadratic relationships for profitability ratios (ROA and ROE) and negative-logarithmic relationships for liquidity and solvability ratios (CR, QR and DER). In general, profitability ratios remain the dominant ratios affecting stock returns.

ABSTRAK
The field of electrical engineering is inseparable from mathematics. One of the commonly used equations is differential equations, in both linear and nonlinear form. Solution of linear equations of differential equations can be obtained analytically, but the solution of nonlinear differential equations can not be easily obtained. The solution of the differential equation is necessary solved to understand the behavior of the dynamic system, therefore in the proses of simulation, a special method is required which can provide these numerical differential equations solution. This can be done with Matlab-Simulink programming. Matlab-Simulink software with version R2016a provides LIBRARY BROWSER facility which is very adequate and applied in windows system, and has LIBRARY which consist of many blocks; CONTINUOUS blocks, DISCONTINUITIES blocks, MATH OPERATIONS blocks, FUNCTION, SOURCES blocks, SINKS blocks and so on. Therefore the solution of a system that has a linear or nonlinear differential equation is very necessary to be disclosed.

The use of composite materials with continuous fibers in the aircraft and aerospace industries requires a thorough knowledge of behaviors of these laminate composites under various loading conditions. Indeed, the aim of this work is to simulate linear and nonlinear behavior of a symmetric laminated composite under three-point bending tests. The modelization used is based on an analytical approximation that has been recently developed for isotropic materials. This approximation is still valid for the studied quasi-isotropic laminated composite because it is symmetric with a specific layer sequence. The overall response of laminate composite is determined from the behavior of each ply outside of their orthotropic axis. Two methods are used to calculate the equivalent longitudinal Young-modulus of the laminate. The result shows that when the deflection of the specimens is less than 2.5 times the thickness, the difference between the experimental and analytical curves is about 1% for the average global stresses method, and about 7.5% for the apparent bending modulus method. For large deflections, the difference relative to the first method remains less than 11% and the second method is about 20%.

This textbook provides students, researchers, and engineers in the area of electrical engineering with advanced mathematical optimization methods. Presented in a readable format, this book highlights fundamental concepts of advanced optimization used in electrical engineering. Chapters provide a collection that ranges from simple yet important concepts such as unconstrained optimization to highly advanced topics such as linear matrix inequalities and artificial intelligence-based optimization methodologies. The reader is motivated to engage with the content via numerous application examples of optimization in the area of electrical engineering. The book begins with an extended review of linear algebra that is a prerequisite to mathematical optimization. It then precedes with unconstrained optimization, convex programming, duality, linear matrix inequality, and intelligent optimization methods. This book can be used as the main text in courses such as Engineering Optimization, Convex Engineering Optimization, Advanced Engineering Mathematics and Robust Optimization and will be useful for practicing design engineers in electrical engineering fields. Author provided cases studies and worked examples are included for student and instructor use.

This classic text has been used in over 20 countries by advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students in biophysics, physiology, medical physics, neuroscience, and biomedical engineering. It bridges the gap between an introductory physics course and the application of physics to the life and biomedical sciences. Extensively revised and updated, the fifth edition incorporates new developments at the interface between physics and biomedicine. New coverage includes cyclotrons, photodynamic therapy, color vision, x-ray crystallography, the electron microscope, cochlear implants, deep brain stimulation, nanomedicine, and other topics highlighted in the National Research Council report BIO2010. As with the previous edition, the first half of the text is primarily biological physics, emphasizing the use of ideas from physics to understand biology and physiology, and the second half is primarily medical physics, describing the use of physics in medicine for diagnosis (mainly imaging) and therapy. Among the many topics carried forward are thorough treatments of forces in the skeletal system, fluid flow, the logistic equation, scaling, equilibrium in statistical mechanics, the chemical potential and free energy, transport, membranes and osmosis, magnetic and electrical signals from nerves and the heart, membranes and gated channels in membranes, biological magnetic fields, linear and nonlinear feedback systems, including biological clocks and chaotic behavior, biological signal analysis, hearing and medical ultrasound, atoms and light, optical coherence tomography, radiometry and photometry, the interaction of photons and charged particles in tissue, radiological physics and the use of x-rays in diagnosis and therapy, nuclear medicine, and magnetic resonance imaging. Discussion of theory is closely linked to experiment. Prior courses in physics and in calculus are assumed.

This book is designed to supplement standard texts and teaching material in the areas of differential equations in engineering such as in Electrical ,Mechanical and Biomedical engineering. Emphasis is placed on the Boundary Value Problems that are often met in these fields. This keeps the the spectrum of the book rather focussed .The book has basically emerged from the need in the authors lectures on “Advanced Numerical Methods in Biomedical Engineering” at Yeditepe University and it is aimed to assist the students in solving general and application specific problems in Science and Engineering at upper-undergraduate and graduate level.Majority of the problems given in this book are self-contained and have varying levels of difficulty to encourage the student. Problems that deal with MATLAB simulations are particularly intended to guide the student to understand the nature and demystify theoretical aspects of these problems. Relevant references are included at the end of each chapter. Here one will also find large number of software that supplements this book in the form of MATLAB script (.m files). The name of the files used for the solution of a problem are indicated at the end of each corresponding problem statement. There are also some exercises left to students as homework assignments in the book. An outstanding feature of the book is the large number and variety of the solved problems that are included in it. Some of these problems can be found relatively simple, while others are more challenging and used for research projects. All solutions to the problems and script files included in the book have been tested using recent MATLAB software. The features and the content of this book will be most useful to the students studying in Engineering fields, at different levels of their education (upper undergraduate-graduate).
