"Recently, lactate has been recognized as energy resources for neuron metabolism. According to ANLS hypothesis, glucose being particularly uptaken by astrocyte is eventually metabolized via glycolisis. Lactate produced in astrocyte is then released into extracelluler matrix and uptaken by neuron then converted into pyruvate that used in oxydative metabolism. That proccess is resulted more ATP than that of conventional theory. A few in vitro studies has demonstrated that there is an increased of ATP in neuron at hypoxic condition, agreed with ANLS hypothesis.
This study was aimed to learn the correlation between plasma lactate level and functional scale in acute thrombotic stroke patients. Forty patients with acute thrombotic stroke were admitted to neurology ward, dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya in May until July 2013. Those patients had been examined for plasma lactate level using lactate-oxydase colorimetric method and functional scale by NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale). The results showed that mean of age was 58,98 ± 11,91 years old, plasma lactate level was 1,51 ± 0,47 mmol/L, and mean of NIHSS was 6,83 ± 2,978. There was negative correlation between plasma lactate level and functional scale measured by NIHSS in acute thrombotic stroke patients, which was statistically significant (r = - 0,366 and p = 0,020)."

"ABSTRAK
Pendahuluan: Pasien pascaoperasi berisiko mengalami perubahan suhu tubuh. Upaya tubuh untuk mengembalikan suhu tubuh ke dalam rentang normal akan meningkatkan kebutuhan tubuh akan oksigen. Pada pasien kritis, kadar laktat >2 mmol/L merupakan prediktor morbiditas dan mortalitas. Kadar laktat dapat meningkat ketika terdapat gangguan perfusi jaringan. Hipoperfusi jaringan dapat terjadi karena hipotermia. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, penelitian ini dilakukan untuk membuktikan hipotesisnya yaitu adanya hubungan antara suhu tubuh dengan kadar laktat pada pasien dewasa pascaoperasi. Metode: Penelitian ini bersifat analitik observasional dengan desain potong lintang. Data diperoleh dari 194 rekam medis pasien pascaoperasi di ICU Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusumo, Jakarta. Data yang dianalisa adalah suhu tubuh dan kadar laktat saat pasien masuk ICU. Uji yang dilakukan adalah uji korelasi Spearman menggunakan perangkat lunak SPSS versi 20. Hasil: Dari 194 pasien dewasa pascaoperasi di ICU Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusumo, didapatkan rerata suhu tubuh 36.3°C dan rerata kadar laktat adalah 1,7 mmol/L. Korelasi antara suhu tubuh dan kadar laktat dianalisis dengan uji korelasi Spearman dan menghasilkan korelasi positif lemah yang bermakna secara statistik dengan nilai r=0,2 (p=0,005). Kesimpulan: Terdapat hubungan berupa korelasi positif antara suhu tubuh dengan kadar laktat pasien dewasa pascaoperasi di ICU.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Postoperative patients are at risk of experiencing changes in body temperature. The bodys effort to restore body temperature to its normal range will increase the bodys need for oxygen. In critical patients, lactate levels >2 mmol/L is a predictor of morbidity and mortality. Lactate levels might increase when there is tissue perfusion impairment. Tissue hypoperfusion can occur due to hypothermia. Based on that, this study was conducted to prove its hypothesis that there is a relationship between body temperature and lactate levels in postoperative adult patients. Method: This study is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. Data was collected from 194 medical records of postoperative patients in the ICU of Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta. The analyzed data was body temperature and lactate level at the time patients moved into ICU. The applied test was Spearman correlation test using SPSS version 20 software. Results: Obtained from 194 postoperative adult patients in the ICU of Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, the average body temperature was 36.3°C and the average lactate level was 1,7 mmol/L. Correlations between body temperature and lactate levels were analyzed by the Spearman correlation test and resulted in a statistically significant positive weak correlation with a value of r=0,2 (p=0,005). Conclusion: There is a relationship in the form of a weak positive correlation between body temperature with lactate level of postoperative adult patients in ICU."

"Penelitian ini merupakan studi eksperimental yang bertujuan untuk menilai pengaruh pemberian makanan sebelum latihan dengan indeks glikemik berbeda terhadap peningkatan laktat sebagai indikator kelelahan atlet. Data yang dikumpulkan meliputi karateristik responden berdasarkan data demografi umur, antropometri berat badan, tinggi badan, IMT, persen lemak tubuh, asupan makan, aktivitas fisik, dan kadar laktat darah.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental dengan jenis studi repeated measures design yang melibatkan 1 kelompok subjek berisi 7 orang. Pada perlakuan tahap 1 responden diberikan makanan dengan indeks glikemik rendah 90 menit sebelum latihan, setelah itu ada masa wash out 1 minggu, kemudian tahap kedua diberikan makanan indeks glikemik tinggi 90 menit sebelum latihan. Sebelum makan, 90 menit sesudah makan, dan setelah latihan diukur kadar laktatnya. Tidak terdapat perbedaan bermakna antara peningkatan kadar laktat pada perlakuan 1 maupun 2 p> 0,05 , namun terdapat kecenderungan peningkatan laktat pada perlakuan 1 cenderung lebih kecil daripada peningkatan laktat pada perlakuan 2. Makanan dengan indeks glikemik rendah dapat dijadikan pilihan sebelum latihan karena terdapat kecenderungan peningkatan laktat menjadi lebih kecil. Diperlukan penelitian selanjutnya untuk mengetahui efek dari indeks glikemik berbeda yang dapat menunjukan adanya perbedaan bermakna.

This research, an experimental study aims to identify the effect of pre exercise meal that contain a different kind of glycemic index toward the blood lactate level as an indicator of fatigue in athlete. The data collected were age, anthropomethry weight, height, body mass index, percentage of fat, food intake, physical activity, and blood lactate level.
This research using repeated mesuares design involving 1 group of 7 male subject who received two different intervention. In the first stage of intervension respondents were given food with a low glycemic index 90 minutes before exercise, then there was a wash out period in one week, after that in the second stage of intervention respondents were given a high glycemic index food 90 minutes before exercise. There was no significant difference between lactate elevated levels in treatment 1 and 2 p 0.05 , but there was a tendency that increasement of lactate in treatment 1 to be less than lactate increase in treatment 2. Foods with low glycemic index could be used before exercise because there was a tendency to increase lactate level be smaller than intervention 2. Further research is needed to investigate the effects of different glycemic indexes that may indicate significant differences.
