ABSTRAK
Tesis ini adalah mengenai konstruksi sosial atas kemiskinan pada masyarakat Wae Rebo di Manggarai, Nusa Tenggara Timur. Dengan mengunakan pendekatan kualitatif, penulis melihat bagaimana proses, faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi serta implikasi konstruksi sosial atas kemiskinan terhadap kehidupan masyarakat Wae Rebo. Realitas kemiskinan dalam hal ini dilihat dan dianalisis menggunakan teori konstruksi sosial Peter L. Berger dan Thomas Luckmann yang melihat hubungan manusia dan dunia sosialnya sebagai hubungan dialektis saling membentuk, menentukan yang terjadi melalui tiga proses simultan yakni eksternalisasi, objektivasi, dan internalisasi.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: pertama, karakteristik geografis dan kehidupan sosial di Wae Rebo dan Kombo merupakan faktor penting yang mempengaruhi konstruksi sosial atas kemiskinan. Kedua, proses konstruksi sosial atas kemiskinan sebagian besar terjadi dalam rutinitas kehidupan sehari-hari di kedua tempat tersebut. Ketiga, miskin l ngg dan kaya bora menjadi status sosial-ekonomi yang didasarkan pada persamaan dan perbedaan atas pekerjaan dan penghasilan. Keempat, pariwisata di sini lain semakin mempertegas perbedaan dan menimbulkan kesenjangan sosial di antara sesama warga Wae Rebo. Kesenjangan sosial ini bukan hanya dapat menjadi pemicu konflik sosial, lebih jauh hal tersebut pada gilirannya dapat mempengaruhi relasi sosial, merubah identifikasi diri dan basis stratifikasi sosial masyarakat Wae Rebo.

ABSTRACT
This thesis explains the social construction of poverty in Wae Rebo community located in Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara. Using qualitative approach, the researcher highlights the processes, the influencing factors, and the implications of existing social construction of poverty to the people of Wae Rebo. The poverty situations in this study are observed and analyzed by using the theory of social construction by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. The theory views the links between humans and their social circumstances as a dialectical relationship mutually shaping, determining which occurs through 3 three simultaneous processes, that are externalization, objectivation, and internalization.The study resulted in 4 four conclusions first, the geographical characteristics and social life of Wae Rebo and Kombo are the critical factors influencing the poverty rsquo s social construction in both communities. Second, the establishment of social construction of poverty mostly occurs within daily routine. Third, the poor l ngg and the rich bora developed into socio economic status due to the similarities and differences over employment situation and income. Fourth, resources for tourism industry are affirming the socio differences and fashioning social inequalities among fellow members of Wae Rebo community. The existing social gap in the community is not only contribute negatively to social conflict, but also influencing the social relations, altering self identification and forming social stratification within Wae Rebo community

Tesis ini membahas kaitan antara ideologi teks yang ada di dua novel karya Liem Khing Hoo, Berjuang 1934 dan Merah 1937 , dengan situasi sosial, ekonomi, dan politik yang melingkupinya. Ideologi teks yang terdapat dalam dua karya tersebut berkenaan dengan komunisme dan konstruksi sosial masa kolonial. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua pendekatan, yaitu sosiologi sastra dan pascakolonial. Hasil penelitian ini memperlihatkan bahwa kedua teks ini menolak tujuan politik yang dibawa oleh komunisme, yaitu menghancurkan sistem kolonial. Akan tetapi dalam Berjuang sistem ekonomi yang digagas oleh komunis, yaitu kepemilikan bersama, disetujui sehingga membentuk masyarakat tanpa kelas. Kedua teks ternyata melanggengkan konstruksi sosial yang membedakan kelas berdasarkan ras. Hal ini terlihat dari penggambaran Eropa yang selalu menempati posisi paling tinggi, serta ketiadaan interaksi antara Tionghoa peranakan dan pribumi.

ABSTRACT
This thesis examines the intercourse between the textual ideology with the surrounding social, economic, and political situation found in two novels by Liem Khing Hoo, Berjuang 1934 and Merah 1937 . The textual ideology contained in the two works relates to communism and social construction of the colonial period. The textual research uses two approaches, sociology of literature and postcolonialism. The result of this study shows that these two texts rejected the political objectives brought by communism to destruct the colonial system. However, Berjuang welcomed the idea of joint ownership as to form a classless society, which is the economic system initiated by the communists. In the other hands, both texts evidently perpetuate social constructs that distinguish classes based on race. This narration is depicted with the positional construction that always puts Europe at the top and the lack of interaction between the Chinese Peranakan with the indigenous people.
