"Tulisan ini mengangkat persoalan ontologis dalam memahami fenomena fandom K-Pop. K-Pop merupakan bagian dari gelombang Korea (Hallyu Wave) yang memunculkan tren baru terkait relasi penggemar dan idol. Relasi identitas penggemar dan idol menjadi properti individual dalam budaya partisipasi yang memperkuat penelusuran ontologis atas fandom K-pop. Alur ketertarikan dengan sikap disinterested memunculkan proses perceiving yang menguatkan interaksi antara penggemar dengan idol. Persoalan relasi inilah yang juga menjadi bagian dari penelurusan ontologis yang dilakukan dalam penulisan ini. Melalui penggunaan metode fenomenologis, saya mengumpulkan data pustaka, riset serta berdasarkan pengalaman subjek. Data dianalisis dengan metode penelurusan ontologis berdasarkan teori dari Roderick Chisholm. Tulisan ini membuktikan adanya definisi ontologis dari fandom K-Pop melalui properti subjek dan fenomena yang melingkupinya.

This paper is about ontological issues in understanding the phenomenon of K-Pop fandom. K-Pop is a part of the Korean wave (Hallyu Wave) which has led to new trends related to the relationship of fans and idols. The relation between fans and idol's identity becomes an individual property in a culture of participation that strengthens the ontological investigation of K-pop fandom. The flow of interest with a disinterested attitude raises the process of perceiving that strengthens the interaction between fans and idols. The issue of relations is also part of the ontological investigation that carried out in this paper. With phenomenological methods, I collected the data from the books and academic papers and did some research based on the subject`s experience. The data were analyzed by ontological investigation methods based on Roderick Chisholm`s theories. This paper proves the ontological definition of K-Pop fandom through the subject`s properties and the surrounding phenomena."

"ABSTRAKAktivitas penggemar tidak lagi hanya sebatas mengkonsumsi produk budaya populer saja. Pada kenyataannya, penggemar juga menciptakan produknya sendiri, seperti yang dilakukan oleh penggemar K-Pop dengan menciptakan produk bernama fanfiction idol K-Pop. Tulisan ini berfokus kepada aktivitas yang dilakukan oleh penggemar K-Pop dalam proses menciptakan fanfiction idol K-Pop. Dengan menggunakan metode etnografi, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggemar K-Pop melakukan cultural translation untuk menciptakan fanfiction idol K-Pop. Penciptaan fanfiction idol K-Pop lalu dilihat sebagai mediated-fan practice, karena tanpa media aktivitas ini tidak dapat berlangsung. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa aktivitas penggemar K-Pop dalam menciptakan fanfiction idol K-Pop tersebut dapat dilihat sebagai suatu bentuk free labor dan fan labor, dimana penggemar K-Pop tidak sadar bahwa apa yang mereka lakukan adalah sebuah bentuk labor sebab mereka tidak mendapat kompensasi dari segi ekonomi, namun secara tidak langsung menguntungkan pihak-pihak kapital.

ABSTRACT

Fan activities are no longer limited to the consumption of popular culture products. In fact, fans also create their own products, like those K-pop fans do by created a product called K-Pop idol fanfiction. This research focuses on the activities carried out by K-Pop fans in the process of creating K-Pop idol fanfiction. The method used in this research is ethnography. The result of the study shows that K-Pop fans doing a cultural translation in creating K-Pop idol fanfiction. The creation of K-Pop idol fanfiction idol was then seen as mediated-fan practice, because without media, this activity cannot be held. This research also found that K-Pop fans activity in creating those K-Pop idol fanfiction can be seen as a free labor and fan labor, where the K-Pop fans are not aware that what they are doing is a form of 'labor' because they did not get compensation in terms of any economy, but indirectly they give profit to the capital parties."
