Looking Back at al-Andalus focuses on Arabic and Hebrew Literature that expresses the loss of al-Andalus from multiple vantage points. In doing so, this book examines the definition of al-Andalus literary borders, the reconstruction of which navigates between traditional generic formulations and actual political, military and cultural challenges. By looking at a variety of genres, the book shows that literature aiming to recall and define al-Andalus expresses a series of symbolic literary objects more than a geographic and political entity fixed in a single time and place. Looking Back at al-Andalus offers a unique examination into the role of memory, language, and subjectivity in presenting a series of interpretations of what al-Andalus represented to different writers at different historical-cultural moments.

Abstrak :
Modern Hebrew is a highly synthetic Semitic language, its lexicon is rich in morphemes. This volume supplies the first in-depth psycholinguistic analysis of the interaction between morphological knowledge and spelling in Hebrew. It also examines how far this model can be applied to other languages. Anchored to a connectionist, cognitive, cross-linguistic and typological framework, the study accords with today?s perception of spelling as being much more than a mere technical skill. Contemporary psycholinguistic literature views spelling as a window on what people know about words and their structure. The strong correlation between orthographies and morphological units makes linking consistent grammatical and lexical representation and spelling units in speaker-writers a key research goal. Hebrew?s wealth of morphological structures, reflected in its written form, promotes morphological perception and strategies in those who speak and write it, adding vitality and relevance to this work.

Artikel ini membahas penelitian tentang penguburan komunitas Yahudi berdasarkan studi pendahuluan dari aspek semiotika. Di Banda Aceh dan Georgetown Penang, terdapat pemakaman Komunitas Yahudi dari Era Kolonial Belanda dan Inggris pada abad ke-19 hingga awal abad ke-20. Pemakaman Yahudi ini memiliki kuburan dan batu nisan yang mencakup identitas Yahudi dengan penggunaan simbol, nama keluarga, dan bahasa Ibrani. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pengumpulan data dengan melakukan observasi lapangan dan studi literatur, kemudian pengolahan data dilakukan dengan menggambarkan data penelitian dan menterjemahkan teks tertulis pada nisan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik kuburan dan nisan Yahudi yang ditemukan di Pemakaman Yahudi di Kerkhof Peutjoet Banda Aceh dan PJC Penang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif dan studi pendahuluan semiotik Ferdinand de Saussure dalam interpretasi. Hasil penelitian pada Pemakaman Yahudi menunjukkan: (1)Pemakaman menjunjung tinggi aturan Halakhah sebagai pemakaman komunitas, (2)ciri-ciri yang menandai identitas jenazah yang dimakamkan berupa persatuan marga, daerah asal, kekerabatan, hubungan suami-istri, serta strata sosial, dan (3) simbol yang menunjukkan identitas Yudaisme kuat pada makam Rabbi atau keluarga Rabbi ......This paper discusses research on community burials based on Jewish preliminary studies from the semiotic aspect. In Banda Aceh and Georgetown Penang, there are funerals of the Jewish Community from the Dutch and British Colonial Era in the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century AD. This Jewish cemetery has graves and gravestones which include Jewish identity with the use of symbols, family names, and Hebrew. The research method used is data collection by conducting field observations and literature studies, then data processing is carried out by describing the research data and translating the written text on the gravestone. This study aims to determine the characteristics of Jewish graves and gravestone found in Jewish cemeteries at Kerkhof Peutjoet Banda Aceh and PJC Penang. This research uses descriptive analysis method and semiotic preliminary study by Ferdinand de Saussure in interpretation. The results of the Jewish research show: (1) Graves uphold the rules of Halakhah as a community burial. (2) The characteristics that mark the identity of the buried body, both in the form of ethnic unity, area of origin, kinship, spouses, and social ways. And (3) symbol denoting Judaism's identity as a Jewish Rabbi or family of Rabbis

Skripsi ini membahas verba lemah pada bahasa Ibrani yang dilihat dari sisi morfofonologis. Analisis yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah deskriptif analisis dengan mendeskripsikan pola vokal dasar pada masing-masing kelompok verba lemah kemudian menganalisis proses morfofonologis yang terjadi/ Signifikansi analisis ini yaitu mendeksripsikan proses morfofonologi verba lemah pada verba imperfektif pola Qa;/ Pa'al persona ketiga maskulin tunggal. Data dalam skripsi ini yaitu 201 verba dasar bahasa Ibrani yang disusun oleh Abraham S, Halkin. Hasil analisis yaitu terjadi perubahan pola dasar pada kelompok verba lemah dan setiap kelompok verba memiliki pola yang berbeda. Perubahan pola dasar pada kelompok verba lemah dan setiap kelompok verba memiliki pola yang berbeda. PErubahan tersebut banyak dipengaruhi oleh letak konsonan guttural pada akar kata. ......This thesis discusses about the weak verbs in Hebrew language which biewed from morphophonological processes. The analysis used in this research is descriptive analysis which describe the basic vocl patterns in each group then analyxed the morphophonological processess of weak verbs in imperfective verbs Qal/ Pa'al patterns fro the third person singuar masculine. The data used in this thesis is taken from 201 Hebrew verbs which was arranged by Abraham S. Halkin. The results of the analysis are changes in the basic pattern of weak verbs in groups and each group of verbs has a different pattern. The changes are influenced by the position of guttural consonants on the root of the word.
