To find the dominant white man’s ideology in the film, and to explore how Gardner’s American Dream would represent the white ideology, this research uses the textual analysis method on the content analysis including the language, symbols, and visual pictures in the film. McIntosh’s privilege theory becomes the framework for examining the research study. The white ideology believes in individual efforts, meritocracy, and a fair social system nonetheless it denied the existence of white privilege and supremacy. As an African American, Chris Gardner works harder than any other intern to get a job at Dean Witter office. He believes in himself and is sure of success despite having no privilege to support him in his journey. "
