Abstrak :
Jepang adalah salah satu negara yang memiliki industri Mobile game dengan pendapatan tertinggi di tingkat global. Salah satu bentuk monetisasi dalam industri mobile game Jepang yaitu menerapkan sistem free-to play, di mana para pemain dapat mengunduhnya secara gratis, namun terdapat fitur pembelian yang disebut sebagai In-app purchase. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis aktivitas In-app Purchase pemain mobile game free-to play Jepang pada regional Indonesia dengan menggunakan konsep Otaku Animal Database Consumption. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode analisis data penjelasan interpretatif, di mana peneliti menginterpretasi hasil transkrip wawancara informan, lalu menjelaskannya lewat konsep yang digunakan dalam penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukan temuan aktivitas permainan dan in-app purchase para pemain mobile game free-to play Jepang di Indonesia serta ciri khas sistem permainannya yang dapat dijelaskan melalui teori dan konsep Otaku Animal Database Consumption dan beberapa aktivitas pemain yang menunjukan beberapa dari konsep Internet gaming disorder. .......Japan is one of the highest revenue mobile game industry country at the global level. How the Japanese mobile game industry monetize their mobile game is by implementing a free-to-play system, where players can download it for free, but there is a purchase feature called In-app purchase. This study aims to analyze the In-app Purchase activities of Japanese free-to-play mobile game players in the Indonesian region using the concept of Otaku Animal Database Consumption. This type of research is a qualitative research by using interpretive explanation data analysis method, in which the researcher interprets the results of the interview transcripts of the informants, then explains them through the concepts used in the study. The results of the study show the findings of game activities and in-app purchases of Japanese free-to-play mobile game players in Indonesia as well as the characteristics of the game system which can be explained through the theory and concept of Otaku Animal Database Consumption and several player activities that show some of the concepts of Internet gaming disorder

Penelitian ini mengajukan sebuah model adopsi teknologi pembelian videogame gacha dengan pendekatan teori UTAUT-GIM dan perceived risk. Instrumen penelitian dikembangkan dalam bentuk survei yang disebarkan secara daring dimana responden akan mengevaluasi karakter virtual yang mereka pilih dan kemudian mengevaluasi pengalaman pembelian gacha pada permainan Genshin Impact. Uji hipotesis dilakukan dengan analisis data dari total 2218 responden dengan menggunakan metode CB-SEM. Ditemukan bahwa teori UTAUT-GIM dan perceived risk dapat diterapkan dalam konteks adopsi pembelian gacha di videogame. Faktor visual attractiveness dan competency memiliki korelasi positif terhadap perceived value. Faktor perceived fairness memiliki pengaruh positif yang kuat terhadap effort expectancy, anticipated enjoyment, dan social influence. Social influence tidak mendapatkan hasil signifikan pada penelitian ini untuk diambil kesimpulan. Sementara perceived risk memiliki korelasi negatif yang lemah terhadap intensi pengguna untuk membeli gacha. Terakhir, effort expectancy, anticipated enjoyment, social influence, perceived value, dan habit memiliki pengaruh positif yang lemah terhadap keinginan membeli gacha. Penelitian ini memberikan perspektif baru pada model UTAUT-GIM yang ternyata juga relevan untuk digunakan pada konteks videogame gacha dan menjelaskan faktor-faktor yang dapat menjelaskan persepsi nilai sebuah karakter virtual pada videogame gacha. Dengan hasil ini, pengembang videogame gacha dapat mengetahui bagaimana prioritas yang harus disusun dalam pengembangan videogame gacha agar dapat memiliki keseimbangan antara pencarian keuntungan dan strategi pemasaran gacha yang tidak sehat. ......This study proposes a technology adoption model for buying gacha videogames with the UTAUT-GIM theoretical approach and risk perception. The research instrument was developed in the form of a boldly launched survey where respondents would develop a virtual character of their choosing and then develop a gacha buying experience in the Genshin Impact game. Hypothesis testing was carried out by analyzing data of total 2218 respondents using the CB-SEM method. It was found that the UTAUT-GIM theory and perceived risk can be applied in the context of the adoption of gacha purchases in videogames. The factors of visual attractiveness and competence have a positive correlation with perceived value. Perceived fairness has a strong positive effect on business expectations, anticipated enjoyment, and social influence. Social influence did not get significant results in this study to draw conclusions. While the perceived risk has a weak negative correlation on the intention of users to buy gacha. Finally, effort expectations, anticipated enjoyment, social influence, perceived value, and habits have a weak positive influence on the desire to buy gacha. This study provides a new perspective on the UTAUT-GIM model which is also relevant for use in the context of the gacha videogame and explains the factors that can explain the perceived value of a virtual character in the gacha videogame. With this result, gacha videogame developers can find out how priorities must be set in gacha videogame development to have a balance between profits and unhealthy gacha marketing strategies.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara empiris pengaruh perceived credibility, perceived usefulness, dan information quality dari user generated content (UGC), serta fear of missing out (FoMO) terhadap purchase intention pemain game gacha di Indonesia. Game seluler telah mencatat pendapatan terbesar di antara platform game lainnya, dengan game gacha seperti Genshin Impact dan Uma Musume berhasil mencapai 10 besar terlaris di seluruh dunia pada tahun 2021. Indonesia telah menunjukkan banyak potensi sebagai pasar game terbesar di Asia Tenggara dan diprediksikan penetrasi pengguna smartphone akan terus meningkat. Namun, baru sedikit penelitian yang dilakukan mengenai game gacha dan pengaruh user generated content terhadap purchase intention di game gacha. Studi yang menunjukkan pengaruh FoMO terhadap purchase intention dalam konteks video game juga masih minim. Pengukuran penelitian dan model struktural ini dilakukan menggunakan PLS-SEM dan 234 responden didapatkan melalui survei online. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa perceived credibility dan information quality dari UGC berpengaruh positif terhadap attitude, tetapi information quality dari UGC tidak berpengaruh terhadap attitude. FoMO berpengaruh positif terhadap purchase intention dan subjective norms, tetapi tidak berpengaruh terhadap attitude dan perceived behavioral control. Dan attitude, subjective norms, dan perceived behavioral control berpengaruh positif terhadap purchase intention. Studi ini menyarankan bahwa pemasar harus mencoba mengembangkan strategi yang mendorong FoMO dan mendorong pembuatan user generated content karena dapat mengarah niat membeli para pemain game gacha. ......This paper aims to empirically analyze the effect of perceived credibility, perceived usefulness, and information quality of user generated content (UGC), as well as fear of missing out (FoMO) towards purchase intention for gacha games in Indonesia. Mobile games has recorded the biggest revenue amongst the gaming platform, with several gacha games like Genshin Impact and Uma Musume made it to top 10 grossing worldwide in 2021. Indonesia has shown a lot of potential as the largest gaming market in South East Asia and increasing penetration of smartphone users. However, there is little known research regarding gacha games and the effect of user generated content towards purchase intention in gacha games. Studies which shows the effect of FoMO towards purchase intention in gaming is also minimal. This research measurement and structural model were assesed using PLS-SEM and 234 respondents data were collected from online survey. Finding shows that perceived credibility and perceived usefulness of UGC information has a positive effect towards attitude, but information quality of UGC has insignificant effect towards attitude. FoMO has a positive effect towards purchase intention and subjective norms, but insignificant effect towards attitude and perceived behavioral control. And attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control has positive effect towards purchase intention. The study suggests that marketers should try to develop FoMO inducing strategy and encourage the creation of user generated content as it may lead to purchase intention.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi apropriasi yang dilakukan pemain untuk menghindari aspek emosional dari model free-to-play gacha game. Mekanisme lotre gacha yang merupakan bentuk monetisasi utama dari gacha game memanfaatkan ikatan emosional pemain dengan karakter game untuk memaksimalkan keuntungan. Pemain gacha game yang telah terikat dengan karakter game akan terpancing untuk membeli kesempatan penggunaan lotre gacha secara berlebihan. Pada penelitian ini proses keterlibatan audiens dengan figur media dan konsep game appropriation digunakan untuk memahami lebih dalam mengenai motivasi serta bentuk apropriasi yang dilakukan oleh pemain gacha game. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif studi kasus dan pengumpulan data melalui wawancara daring. Berdasarkan jawaban dari sepuluh orang pemain gacha game, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa motivasi pemain mengapropriasi model free-to-play gacha game adalah adanya kekhawatiran ketidakmampuan untuk mengendalikan diri akibat keinginan untuk memiliki karakter game yang disukai. Oleh sebab itu, masing-masing pemain gacha game memiliki strategi untuk menekan pembelian yang impulsif dan frekuensi penggunaan gacha. ......This research explores the players’ appropriation of free-to-play gacha games as a strategy to avoid the emotional aspect of gacha usage which may lead to over-spending. Gacha game’s main monetization comes from a random reward mechanism called gacha. This mechanism is specifically designed to maximize profit by taking advantage of the players’ emotional attachment to game characters. In order to understand the player’s motivation and appropriation of gacha game’s free-to-play model, this research uses the concept of audience involvement with media characters and video game appropriation. This is a qualitative, descriptive case study research using interpretive paradigm. Based on an interview with ten gacha game players, this research argues that gacha game players’ desire of winning their favorite game characters contributes to their anxiety towards overspending and losing self-control which motivates their appropriation. Each gacha game players employs their own strategy to spend less and avoid over-spending on gacha.
