"Berdasarkan Survei Sosial Ekonomi Nasional (Susenas) dan sensus penduduk sejak 2010, penelitian ini menguji pengaruh keragaman etnis terhadap ketimpangan pengeluaran di Indonesia. Ini dicapai dengan menggunakan estimasi OLS menggunakan ethnic fractionalization index (efi) dan ethnic polarization index (epoi) sebagai proksi keanekaragaman etnis. Tanpa variabel kontrol, ethnic fractionalization index adalah positif dan signifikan dalam mempengaruhi ketimpangan pengeluaran di Indonesia. Tidak seperti ethnic fractionalization index, ethnic polarization index dan ketimpangan pengeluaran memiliki hubungan berbentuk U terbalik. Namun, pengaruh keragaman etnis kurang signifikan ketika variabel kontrol ditambahkan ke estimasi. Selain itu, efek keanekaragaman etnis kehilangan signifikansinya ketika memasukkan dummy wilayah ke dalam estimasi. Kami menemukan bahwa semua dummy wilayah secara signifikan mempengaruhi ketimpangan dan mengurangi efek keragaman etnis. Akhirnya, dimasukkannya interaksi antara proxy keragaman etnis dan dummy wilayah mengungkapkan hasil yang tidak terduga. Meskipun tidak signifikan, baik interaksi ethnic fractionalization index atau ethnic polarization index dengan dummy wilayah menunjukkan hubungan negatif.

Based on the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) and population census from 2010, this study examines the effect of ethnic diversity on expenditure inequality in Indonesia. This is achieved using the OLS estimation using ethnic fractionalization index (efi) and ethnic polarization index (epoi) as the proxy of ethnic diversity. Without the control variable, the ethnic fractionalization index is positive and significant in affecting expenditure inequality in Indonesia. Unlike the ethnic fractionalization index, the ethnic polarization index and expenditure inequality have an inverted U-shaped relationship. However, the effect of ethnic diversity is less significant when control variables are added to the estimation. Additionally, the effect of ethnic diversity loses its significance when incorporating regional dummies into the estimation. We found that all regional dummies significantly affect inequality and diminish the ethnic diversity effect. Finally, the inclusion of the interaction term between ethnic diversity proxy and regional dummies reveals an unexpected result. Though not significant, both interactions of the ethnic fractionalization index or the ethnic polarization index with regional dummies show a negative relationship."

"Indonesia adalah salah satu negara yang paling beragam di dunia, secara etnis maupun secara agama. Kolektivisme di antara masyarakat di Indonesia juga masih kuat. Di samping itu, tingkat penurunan kemiskinan sudah melambat, disebabkan oleh penurunan kemiskinan di daerah pedesaan yang lambat dibandingkan di perkotaan. Dengan latar belakang tersebut, saya termotivasi untuk menganalisa bagaimana modal sosial mempengaruhi peluang miskin seseorang. Saya menggunakan kepercayaan sebagai ukuran modal sosial. Data yang saya gunakan berasal dari IFLS, dimana sebelumnya disesuaikan dengan IRT, dan diagregasikan pada level distrik. Sebagai perbandingan, saya juga menggunakan partisipasi masyarakat sebagai ukuran modal sosial. Saya meregresikan kemiskinan pada tingkat rumah tangga dengan modal sosial dan determinan kemiskinan sebagai variabel kontrol. Saya juga menambahkan variabel interaksi antara subsidi pemerintah dan modal sosial untuk melihat interaksi keduanya. Hasil dari analisis saya menunjukkan bahwa kemiskinan tidak mempunyai dampak signifikan terhadap peluang miskin dan kebijakan kemiskinan pemerintah.

Indonesia is one of the most diverse countries in the world, ethnically and religiously. Collectivism is also very prevalent inside the societies in the country. The rate at which poverty rate is going down is slowly halting. This phenomenon is mainly caused by the drop of poverty rate in rural areas not going down as fast as it is in the urban areas. Motivated by these facts, I try to analyze how social capital affects poverty incidence in Indonesia. I use trust as a measure for the level of local social capital. To do this, I use trust data from IFLS adjusted using IRT to better reflect the real level of trust, and aggregate the data in district level. For comparison, I also used social participation as a proxy of social capital. Furthermore, I regressed incidence of poverty at household level against the aggregated trust, as well as social participation, and a set of control variables consisted of theoretized poverty determinants. I also add the interaction between government subsidies and social capital to see how the two interact. The result suggests that social capital doesn`t have a substantial impact on poverty incidence and government policies."

Karya-karya beliau selalu diangkat dari latar belakang kehidupan pribadinya, salah satunya adalah Les Deux N gres. Artikel ini tidak hanya membahas mengenai integrasi yang terjadi antara masyarakat kulit putih dan kulit hitam, tetapi juga mematahkan kesimpulan dari artikel ldquo;Tema Rasisme dalam Cerpen Les Deux N gres Karya Gabrielle Roy rdquo; karya Riezca Biastami Radaini.

ABSTRACTEthnic diversity in a multicultural society often causes social issues, such as stereotypes. Stereotypes or prejudice comes from a limited knowledge of other racial groups. In order to minimize this problem, each group should set aside their prejudice of each other and try to be more open. This type of problem can be found in the writings of one of the Francophone authors, Gabrielle Roy. Her works are usually taken from her personal life, as seen in one of her works Les Deux N gres. The purpose of this article is to discuss the problem of racial integration between white people and black people, and to break the conclusion made by Riezca Radaini Biastami rsquo s in her article ldquo Racism Theme in Short Story ldquo Les Deux N gres rdquo by Gabrielle Roy rdquo ."
