"The devices described in “Advanced MOS-Gated Thyristor Concepts” are utilized in microelectronics production equipment, in power transmission equipment, and for very high power motor control in electric trains, steel-mills, etc. Advanced concepts that enable improving the performance of power thyristors are discussed here, along with devices with blocking voltage capabilities of 5,000-V, 10,000-V and 15,000-V. Throughout the book, analytical models are generated to allow a simple analysis of the structures and to obtain insight into the underlying physics. The results of two-dimensional simulations are provided to corroborate the analytical models and give greater insight into the device operation."

"Advances in reconfigurable mechanisms and robots I provides a selection of key papers presented in the second ASME/IFToMM International Conference on Reconfigurable Mechanisms and Robots (ReMAR 2012) held on 9th -11th July 2012 in Tianjin, China. This ongoing series of conferences will be covered in this ongoing collection of books.
A total of seventy-eight papers are divided into seven parts to cover the topology, kinematics and design of reconfigurable mechanisms with the reconfiguration theory, analysis and synthesis, and present the current research and development in the field of reconfigurable mechanisms including reconfigurable parallel mechanisms. In this aspect, the recent study and development of reconfigurable robots are further presented with the analysis and design and with their control and development. The bio-inspired mechanisms and subsequent reconfiguration are explored in the challenging fields of rehabilitation and minimally invasive surgery. Advances in Reconfigurable Mechanisms and Robots I further extends the study to deployable mechanisms and foldable devices and introduces applications of reconfigurable mechanisms and robots.
The rich-content of Advances in Reconfigurable Mechanisms and Robots I brings together new developments in reconfigurable mechanisms and robots and presents a new horizon for future development in the field of reconfigurable mechanisms and robots."

Nowadays, Linear Induction Motors are widely used, in many industrial applications including transportation, conveyor systems, actuators, material handling, pumping of liquid metal, and sliding door closers, etc. with satisfactory performance. The most obvious advantage of linear motor is that it has no gears and requires no mechanical rotary-to-linear converters. On this basis, analysis and design of a single-phase linear induction motor has been made. At the design stage, single phase linear motor induction required calculation in accordance with applicable standards, this is necessary in order to obtain optimal results. In the manufacturing process, supporting tools needed to be precise so that the process will running according to plan. After that, it's do experiments and measurements, which were divided into two kinds of aluminum plates as rails or a part that does not move and aluminum plate as part of the move, the parameters to be analyzed is the power, speed and force. Both experiments are then analyzed to see the difference result parameters variation of the experiments and measurements. In this thesis, maximum power obtained in the first test 2242 (Watt) with 6 (mm) alumunium thickness, and for maximum speed obtained 0,04 (m/s) with 6 (mm) alumunium thickness. In the second test maximum speed obtained 0.06 (m/s) with 4 (mm) alumunium thickness."

"The power makers ? challenge : and the need for fission energy looks at why using only conventional renewable energy sources is not quite as simple as it seems. Following a general introduction to electricity and its distribution, the author quantifies the reductions needed in greenhouse gas emissions from the power sector in the face of ever increasing world demands for electricity. It provides some much needed background on the many energy sources available for producing electricity and discusses their advantages and limitations to meet both the emission reduction challenge and electricity demand. By analyzing the three main groups of energy sources, renewable energy, fossil fuels and fission energy (nuclear power), readers can assess the ability of each group to meet the challenge of both reducing emissions and maintaining reliable supply at least cost. It is written for both non-technical and technical readers."

"This book describes and assesses energy technologies, markets and future strategies, focusing on their capacity to produce, exchange, and use energy vectors. Special attention is given to the renewable energy resources available in different areas of the world and made exploitable by the integration of energy vectors in the global energy system. Clear definitions of energy vectors and energy systems are used as the basis for a complete explanation and assessment of up-to-date, available technologies for energy resources, transport and storage systems, conversion and use. The energy vectors scheme allows the potential realization of a worldwide sustainable energy system to fulfill global development expectations by minimizing both the impact on the environment, and the international political frictions for access to limited and concentrated resources."
