This volume presents the locality-sensitive approach to distributed network algorithms-the utilization of locality to simplify control structures and algorithms and reduce their costs. The author begins with an introductory exposition of distributed network algorithms focusing on topics that illustrate the role of locality in distributed algorithmic techniques. He then introduces locality-preserving network representations and describes sequential and distributed techniques for their construction. Finally, the applicability of the locality-sensitive approach is demonstrated through several applications. Distributed Computing: A Locality-Sensitive Approach is the only book that gives a thorough exposition of network spanners and other locality-preserving network representations such as sparse covers and partitions. The book is useful for computer scientists interested in distributed computing, electrical engineers interested in network architectures and protocols, and for discrete mathematicians and graph theorists.

Questions about stability arise in almost every control problem. There are many physical problems in which exponential stability is too strong and for which the concept of strong stability is appropriate. This book provides a solid mathematical framework for a structured approach to strongly stabilizable systems through integration of fundamental theory, physical applications, and numerical results. The author includes a mathematical framework for studying PDE models of large flexible structures, an important class of applications. The author's structured approach focuses on two themes: the development of system theoretic results for strongly stable systems, and the formulation of these results for a class of dissipative systems with collocated actuators and sensors. The tools set forth in this book extend the scope of applicability of PDE control techniques, including the important aspect of numerical approximation. Most importantly, the author justifies all theory by providing physical examples for which the theory is relevant. The book encompasses basic system theoretic notions, such as stability, stabilizability, detectability, coprime factorizations, and control related topics like Riccati equations, LQ optimal control, robust stabilization, nonlinear perturbations, and numerical approximation.

Research Directions in Distributed Parameter Systems is composed of eleven chapters, written by experts in their respective fields, on topics ranging from control of the Navier-Stokes equations to nondestructive evaluation all of which are modeled by distributed parameters systems. Written by the plenary speakers for the Conference on Future Directions in Distributed Parameter Systems (October 2000), the volume addresses the state of the art, open questions, and important research directions in applications modeled by partial differential equations and delay systems, with the ultimate goal of passing along these perspectives to researchers in the field. This book compiles a broad range of material, much of which is available only in research journals. Its goal is to disseminate to the research community the perspectives and challenges posed for a variety of current research applications. Topics include electromagnetic theory for dielectric and conductive materials, flow control, cardiovascular and respiratory models, homogenization and systems theory, optimal and geometric control, reduced-order models for large-scale systems, smart materials, and nondestructive evaluation and structural health monitoring for systems, including nuclear power plants. A unifying theme throughout the book focuses on the necessity of considering model development, numerical approximation, parameter estimation through inverse problem techniques, and control design in concert to achieve the stringent design criteria dictated by present applications.

Variabel-variabel bebas yang diteliti adalah (1) rasio LTA (liquid assets to total assets), (2) rasio LAD (liquid assets to deposits), dan (3) rasio FDR (financing to deposits ratio).
The purpose of this thesis mainly is to analyze the effect of liquidity risk to profitability and to explain this effect. The model applied to achieve this purpose is a regression model, especially regression model using seasonal dummy and distributed-lag approach. The independent variables are (1) LTA (ratio of liquid assets to total assets), (2) LAD (ratio of liquid assets to deposits), and (3) FDR (ratio of financing to deposits). All of the independent variables are treated as lag variables. The dependent variables applied in four models are (1) ratio of ROA (return on assets) and (2) ratio of ROE (return on equity). The results shows : (1) with Granger Causality Test it is concluded that only LTA causes the profitability (ROA and ROE) in different lags, (2) the effect of independent variables to dependent variable are significant in distributed-lag model, and (3) the seasonal dummy variables also positively have significant effects to the model.
