Kualitas menjadi salah satu faktor penting penentu keberhasilan diterimanya suatu produk oleh konsumen hingga menciptakan kepuasan konsumen. Kualitas produk yang dihasilkan sangat dipengaruhi oleh proses produksi yang dijalankan. Pada penelitian ini, dilakukan pengontrolan kualitas pada lini produksi plastic painting di salah satu perusahaan otomotif terkemuka di Indonesia untuk mengetahui penyebab sering terjadinya produk cacat. Multivariate control chart digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk memantau dan menganalisis lini produksi yang melibatkan sejumlah karakteristik kualitas yang saling berkorelasi tersebut. Penggunaan metode ini dikarenakan pengendalian kualitas dengan univariate control chart yang umum digunakan hanya dapat menganalisis proses produksi dengan satu variabel kontrol. Metode ini kemudian menghasilkan beberapa pengamatan yang berada di luar kendali proses. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa beberapa jenis-jenis cacat produk yang memberikan nilai kontribusi relatif terbesar pada sinyal di luar kendali proses adalah runs, buffing, dan gores dasar. ......Quality is one of the important factors to determine the success of product acceptance by consumer to get their satisfaction. Product quality is strongly influenced by the executed production process. In this study, the quality control is carried out on production line of plastic painting in one of the leading automotive company in Indonesia to find out the mistakes led to the frequent occurrence of defective products. Multivariate control charts are used in this case to monitor and analyze production line involving a number of quality characteristics that are correlated with each other. This method is applied in this study because quality control using univariate control chart commonly used is only be able to analyze the production process with only a control variable. This method generates a few observations that are beyond the process control. The analysis showed that some types of product defects that give the largest relative contribution to the signal beyond the process control are runs, sanding, and basic scratch.
