"Skripsi ini membahas tindakan kolektif sektor informal Pedagang Barel. dalam menjalani kehidupannya pedagang sektor informal seringkali menghadapi tantangan dari lingkungan eksternal. Dengan adanya tantangan tersebut maka diperlukan strategi agar pedagang tetap mampu mempertahankan eksistensinya. Pedagang informal Barel mendapat tantangan berupa penutupan pintu Barel oleh Pihak Rektorat UI. Tindakan kolektif menjadi pilihan para pedagang Barel untuk dapat mempertahankan klaim atas dibukanya pintu Barel. Tindakan kolektif yang mereka lakukan ini meliputi proses pengintegrasian interest individu-individu didalamnya sehingga menjadi interest kolektif, pengorganisasian, mobilisasi yang akhirnya menjadi sebuah tindakan kolektif itu sendiri. Dalam interaksinya dengan lingkungan eksternal, pedagang Barel mendapatkan opportunity maupun threat. Opportunity ini memberikan ruang bagi mereka untuk menyuarakan aspirasi dan juga memperkuat klaim yang mereka buat sebelumnya. Pada akhirnya tindakan kolektif yang mereka lakukan berhasil mempertahankan eksistensi mereka, hal ini ditandai dengan dibukanya kembali pintu Barel secara resmi oleh pihak UI.

This thesis discusses the collective action of Barel's informal sector traders. live their lives as informal sector traders, they often face challenges from the external environment. Given these challenges, they will need strategies so they still able to maintain their existence. Barel?s informal traders have a challenge when Universitas Indonesia closing Barel?s Gate. Collective action is choice for traders to be able to resist their claim for opening Barel?s gate. Their collective action involves the process of integrating individual interest so it becomes a collective interest, organization, and mobilization that eventually became a collective action itself. In its interaction with the external environment, Traders get the opportunity and threat. Opportunity give them ability to tell their aspirations and also strengthen the claims they have made previously. At the end collective action which they did successfully resist their existence, it is marked by the reopening of the Barel?s gate officially by UI."

"Tugas Karya Akhir ini membahas penghakiman massa dan upaya pengendaliannya berdasarkan pendapat dari para ahli. Pendapat ahli dalam tulisan ini digunakan sebagai data, yang mana diperoleh dari penulusuran melalui media massa elektronik. Pengendalian sosial menjadi pembahasan utama dalam tulisan ini, bagaimana penghakiman massa dapat dikendalikan dan diminimalisir. Teori collective behavior menjadi teori pendukung untuk menjelaskan penyebab penghakiman massa terjadi di masyarakat. Berdasarkan identifikasi penyebab penghakiman massa, maka terwujud upaya pengendaliannya. Pengendalian penghakiman massa dapat dilakukan secara informal (melalui masyarakat) dan secara formal (melalui keterlibatan penegak hukum dan kebijakan).

This paper examines collective violence and the control efforts based on the perspective of the experts. Expert judgments in this paper are used as data which obtained from electronic mass media. Social control is the main discussion in this paper; how to collective violence can be controlled and minimized. Collective behavior theory will become supporting theory that explain the cause of the collective violence. Based on the identification of the cause of collective violence, then the control efforts arose. Collective violence control can be done informally (through community) and formally (through the involvement of law enforcement and related public policies)."

"ABSTRAKTesis ini membahas modal sosial dan kekerasan kolektif geng nongkrong anak muda di permukiman kumuh perkotaan. Dengan menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif melalui pendekatan studi kasus pada geng nongkrong Kota Paris dan Caplin di Kecamatan Johar Baru, Jakarta Pusat, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa geng nongkrong dan kekerasan kolektif merupakan modal sosial geng nongkrong di permukiman kumuh. Kenyataan ini disebabkan oleh persoalan struktur dan kultur sosial masyarakat di permukiman kumuh Johar Baru. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini merekomendasikan pemerintah dan organisasi kemasyarakatan (LSM/NGO) perlu merancang sebuah kebijakan pembangunan inklusif dimana ada sebuah intervensi sosial terhadap sebuah komunitas atau masyarakat, khususnya kelompok anak muda.

ABSTRACT

This thesis discusses social capital and collective violent street gangs in the urban slums. By using the method of qualitative research through case study approach in the Kota Paris and Caplin street gangs in District Johar Baru, the study found that the street gang and collective violence is social capital street gang in a slum. This fact is due to the problems of social structure and culture of the people in the slums, Johar Baru. Therefore, this study recommends that the government and civil society organizations need to design a policy of inclusive development where there is a social intervention to a community or society, especially the young people."
