"Tesis ini adalah tentang fenomena budaya nge-mall yang belakangan telah menjadi bagian dari gaya hidup masyarakat Jakarta. Mal, bagi warga Jakarta menjadi suatu arena yang memungkinkan orang-orang memaknai dan memahami realitas kehidupan sosial. Sebagaimana yang dinyatakan Jean Baudrillard, mal menjadi tempat akulturasi, konfrontasi dan pengujian kode-kode sosial serta penilaian sosial. Penelitian ini menganalisa arti penting mal dalam kehidupan sosial masyarakat Jakarta dan bagaimana masyarakat konsumen jakarta mempelajari kode-kode sosial—personalisasi diri, diferensiasi sosial dan cara bersosialisasi—melalui konsumsi tanda di mal.Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif, bersifat kualitatif. Desain penelitian adalah studi kasus, yaitu mengangkat fenomena nge-mal pada masyarakat Jakarta, yang mana dianalisa dengan teknik illuslrative case study dengan teori konsumsi serta teori hipermarket dan hiperkomoditas dari Jean Baudrillard. Penelitian ini merupakan bentuk penelitian posmodemisme.Dari penelitian ini, diketahui bahwa pola pikir masyarakat konsumen Jakarta dibentuk dan dirasionalisasi oleh konsumsi, sehingga kehidupan sosial banyak dipengaruhi oleh kode-kode konsumsi. Pemahaman tentang identifikasi dan personalisasi diri serta klasifikasi dan stratifikasi sosial, merujuk pada tanda- tanda yang melekat pada barang konsumsi. Mal sebagai situs yang menampilkan beraneka barang konsumsi bersifat signifikan dalam konstruksi sosial masyarakat konsumen Jakarta. Mal menjadi tempat orang melihat dan mengamati objek dan tanda pada objek konsumsi, yang mana juga sekaligus tempat orang memaknai dan memahami kode-kode sosial. Barang-barang yang dipajang di etalase di mal menjadi media belajar bagi orang-orang yang melihatnya.Implikasi dari penelitian ini adalah kesadaran, bahwa mal sangat berperan dalam membentuk pola pikir masyarakat. Mal menguatkan rasionalitas konsumsi sehingga membuat orang semakin mengorientasikan hidupnya, menghabiskan waktunya untuk mengejar kebahagiaan materialis, yang mana target dan standarnya bisa ditemukan di berbagai barang konsumsi di mal. Mal mendefinisikan kebutuhan-kebutuhan masyarakat, yang mana semuanya berorientasi pada kebutuhan bernilai status sosial lebih tinggi.

This thesis is about phenomenon of hanging out in mall that recently becoming part of Jakarta society lifestyle. For most of Jakarta people ma is an area that enables them to learn and comprehend the social life reality. As Jean Baudrillard States, mal is a place of acculturation, confrontation and social codes testing and social judgement This thesis analizes the significance of mal in Jakarta people social life and how they learn social codes—self personalization, social differentiation dan way to socialize—through signs consumption in malls.

This thesis is a qualitative descriptive research The research desgn is case study, where the writer is tiying to explore the hanging out in mall habbit phenomenon of Jakarta people. It is analyzed by employing illustrative case study technique with the consumption and hypermarket theories of Jean Baudrillard. This research is meant to be a post modernism one.

By this research, it is found out that the Jakarta consumer society mindset is fonned and rationalized by consumption, thus their social life are mostly affected by codes of consumption. The understanding about identification, self personalization, classification and social stratification are reffered to the signs embedded to consumed goods. Malls as sites that display various consumption goods bave great significance in the social construction of Jakarta consumer society. Mall is place where people find and examine objects of consumption. Thus it is becoming a place where people leam and understand the social codes. Goods at displays in mall etalase are truning into leaming media of those who stare at them

This research implication is an understanding that mall is highly influencing in the construction of the society mindset. Mall strenghtens the consumption rationality thus encourage people to further orienting their life, spending their time chasing material happiness, which its target and standards can be found in various consumption goods in malls. The mall identifies the needs of society, where everything is oriented to higher social status.

"Serial TV Breaking Bad 2008 - 2013 merupakan salah satu yang terbaik di antara serial lainnya yang bertemakan kejahatan dan Narkoba. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori identitas budaya dan teori representasi dari Stuart Hall, karena serial ini akan dianalisis dengan pendekatan budaya. Breaking Bad memiliki oposisi biner yang kompleks, pemilihan setting yang unik, dan representasi identitas yang bersifat metafor. Tiga hal tersebut digambarkan sedemikan rupa sehingga memiliki peran penting dalam menetapkan kode yang baru bahwa adanya pahlawan bukanlah suatu keharusan, dan kisah yang hebat dapat terjadi tidak hanya di kota-kota besar.

In terms of drug related crime TV series, Breaking Bad 2008 2013 appears to be one of the best among the others. The popularity of this series has spread all over the world due to its outstanding plot, acting, and production. Breaking Bad delivers a fresh nuance to the audience. This paper aims to analyze the series based on how it has set new codes among this kind of TV series. Up until now, there seems to be no research that examines the series in terms of its impact towards the industry, specifically, ones that examine the representation of identity in the series. All of those representations eventually affect the entire show to offer a new trend in the industry. Theories that are used are theory of cultural identity and theory of representation from Stuart Hall because the series will be analyzed with cultural approach. Breaking Bad offers a complex binary opposition within its characters, unusual selection of setting, and metaphorical representations of identity. These characters with their unusual and dramatic characterization, setting, and representations of identity have roles in setting the new codes that a hero is not a must, and a great story can be made not only in big cities."

"Pada makalah ini penulis tertarik untuk menganalisis film Mulan yang dibuat pada tahun 2020. Mulan 2020 “Loyal, Brave and True” adalah film drama fantasi Amerika Serikat yang diproduksi Walt Disney Pictures, salah satu industri produsen film yang sangat populer di dunia. Film ini digarap oleh Niki Caro, skenarionya dibuat oleh Elizabeth Martin, Lauren Hynek, Rick Jaffa dan Amanda Silver. Film ini merupakan remake film (“film yang dibuat kembali”) dari versi kartun tahun 1998 yang mengangkat kisah ksatria wanita yang dibesarkan oleh kultur masyarakat Tionghoa. Makalah ini ditulis dengan menggunakan analisa deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang diambil dari hasil amatan melalui film tersebut kemudian dimasukkan dalam katagorisasi berdasarkan aspek-aspek semiotika untuk kemudian dianalisa dengan menggunakan teori Television Codes Fiske yang membagi atas tiga level amatan yakni level realitas, level representasi dan level ideologis.Ketidakadilan gender secara subordinatif tampak pada saat adegan Mulan bersama Ibu, adik dan Ibu pencari jodoh (Matchmaker). Matchmaker adalah sosok yang disegani dan berkuasa dalam memberikan penilaian secara tradisi tentang baik atau buruknya kualitas seorang anak perempuan. Termasuk juga dalam menilai kualitas pendidikan keluarga, dan hal tersebut sangat mempengaruhi sikap orang tua Mulan. . Kode- kode semiotika tampak hadir dalam film Mulan sesuai dengan level representatif, level realita dan level ideologi. Film Mulan 2020 menunjukkan bahwa realita masyarakat masih menempatkan perempuan sebagai sosok yang berada di kelas kedua setelah laki-laki.

In this paper, the author is interested in analyzing the film Mulan which was made in 2020. Mulan 2020 “Loyal, Brave and True” is an American fantasy drama film produced by Walt Disney Pictures, one of the most popular film producing industries in the world. The film is directed by Niki Caro, with a screenplay by Elizabeth Martin, Lauren Hynek, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. This film is a remake of the 1998 cartoon version of the film, which tells the story of female knights who were raised by Chinese culture. This paper was written using a qualitative descriptive analysis. The data taken from the observations through the film are then included in the categorization based on the semiotic aspects for later analysis using the Television Codes Fiske theory which divides it into three levels of observation, namely the level of reality, the level of representation and the level of ideological. the scene of Mulan with her mother, sister and matchmaker mother (Matchmaker). The matchmaker is a respected and powerful figure in traditional judgments about the good or bad qualities of a girl. This includes assessing the quality of family education, and this greatly affects the attitude of Mulan's parents. Semiotic codes appear to be present in the film Mulan according to the representative level, the level of reality and the level of ideology."
