"Dalam penelitian ini dibuat pelat komposit berbahan dasar serat alami yaitu serat pisang abaca (Musa textilis), yang dipadukan dengan resin epoksi, dan keramik berkekuatan tinggi dengan metode hand lay up. Serat abaca dipilih karena memiliki kekuatan yang tinggi, ketersediannya di Indonesia dan harganya murah. Penelitian ini ditekankan pada peningkatan kekuatan keramik dengan mengganti keramik yang digunakan, sehingga, diharapkan mampu menahan terjangan peluru level IIIA. Bahan dasar keramik yang digunakan memiliki kadar Aluminum Oksida yang tinggi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelat komposit dengan lima lapis anyaman serat pisang abacca dengan ketebalan 11,15mm yang digabungkan dengan satu lapis keramik mampu menahan peluru dari senjata Level IIIA, yaitu submachine gun pada jarak 5m.

This research is to make a composite panel from abaca fiber (Musa textilis), which combine with epoxy resin and ballistic ceramic using hand lay up method. Abaca fiber was chosen because it's cheap and easy to get. This research is consentrated in rising the strength of the ceramic with add more width to it, so, we hope it could absorb level IIIA projectiles. The ceramic used for this research is made from Aluminium Oxide with high concentration. The result of this research show that the composite panel from 5 layers abaca fiber with combined with ceramic could absorb level IIIA projectiles, which is submachine gun in 5m range."
