Perpindahan Etnis Kenyah Badeng dari Long Beta?o, Apo Kayan (Kalimantan Timur) menuju Long Busang (Sarawak) membuka babak baru dalam sejarah kehidupan mereka. Tidak hanya bertemu dengan negara yang baru, mereka juga bertemu dengan agama baru. Bertemu dan bersentuhan dengan Islam, yang notabene agama resmi di Malaysia, membuat mereka mengalami dinamika identitas. Kehadiran Islam dan Kristen di Kampung Long Busang memberikan sebuah cerita tentang bagaimana identitas sebuah sukubangsa mengalami perubahan oleh karena proyek pendisiplinan beragama. Skripsi ini menggambarkan bagaimana modernitas berkerja pada segmentasi agama untuk menghilangkan ambivalensi dalam identitas etnis Kenyah Badeng melalui national schooling sebagai proses pendisiplinan beragama.

ABSTRACT
The Migration of Ethnic Kenyah Badeng from Long Beta'o, Apo Kayan (East Kalimantan) to Long Busang (Sarawak) opened a new chapter in the history of their life. Not only met the new state, but they also met with the new religion. Met and got in touch with Islam, which was actually the official religion in Malaysia, made them walked through the dynamic identity. The presence of Islam and Christian in Kampung Long Busang gave a story of how an ethnic identity change because of project religious discipline. This thesis illustrated how modernity works on religious segmentation to eliminate ambivalence in Kenyah Badeng ethnic identity through national schooling as a process of religious discipline

Abstrak :
Ritus pertukaran telah menguatkan hubungan penduduk di Hulu Sembakung meski dibelah oleh batas negara. Sementara, batas negara dikonstruksi oleh kekuasaan yang dianggap sebagai pemilik kedaulatan tunggal. Kondisi ini melahirkan kepentingan penguasa untuk membuat patuh penduduk perbatasan terhadap proses rekonstruksi kekuasaan negara yang terjadi. Di lain pihak, wilayah perbatasan telah memiliki konsep ruang dimensi sosial-budaya yang telah lama hadir sebelum negara merekonstruksi konsep ruang teritorial. Negosiasi lintas batas yang dilakukan oleh penduduk setempat merupakan upaya penduduk untuk mempertahankan lanskap budaya dan memposisikan diri dalam arena sosial lintas-batas yang berusaha dihilangkan oleh negara.

Rite of exchange has been strengthening relationships between residents in Hulu Sembakung although split by borders. Meanwhile, borders are constructed by power which was considered to be the owner of a single sovereignity. This condition produces interests among authorities to make border residents submissive to the reconstruction of nation control that happened. On the other hand, the border area has had its own concept about socio-culture spatial dimensions that has long been presented before the country reconstruct the concept of the territorial. Cross-border negotiations conducted by local residents is an effort to preserve the cultural landscape and to position themselves in the cross-border social arena that is omitted by the state.
