Abstrak :
A transformational grammar consists of two') compo¬nents: syntactic and phonological, the former of which is said to be fundamental in that the latter is supposed to operate on its output. The syntactic component is again divided into two parts, the phrase structure sub-component and the transformation sub-component. Our dissertation is an attempt to lay the foundation of Rappang Buginese (RB) grammar. The first part, which is the phonology, is aimed at obtaining a set of symbols for representipg the utterances of RB, such that every compe-tent reader may join in our discussion of the description in the second and third parts, which are essentially start¬ing points for a complete RB syntax.
