Artikel ini membahas bagaimana auto-tune dan pitch correction menjadi bagian dari budaya pop dan bagaimana teknologi ini berkontribusi terhadap revolusi industri musik di seluruh dunia. Auto-tune dan pitch correction adalah program yang digunakan untuk mengotomatisasi suara penyanyi (Hadhazy, 2010). Kemampuan kedua teknologi tersebut dalam memanipulasi suara penyanyi memicu tanggapan penggunaan auto-tune dan pitch correction sebagai sebuah praktik curang (Reynolds, 2018). Namun isu ini berubah seiring berjalannya waktu, keberadaan auto-tune menjadi salah satu program paling revolusioner saat ini. Dengan menggunakan teori disonansi kognitif oleh Leon Festinger (Harmon-Jones dan Mills, 2019) dan menyoroti fenomena auto-tune dan pitch correction, artikel ini mempelajari faktor dan alasan mengapa kedua teknologi itu digunakan oleh penyanyi di seluruh dunia. Studi ini menduga, instrumen dan suara yang tidak melalui otomatisasi, dapat mempengaruhi kualitas pertunjukan secara emosional. ......This article discusses how auto-tune and pitch correction became a part of pop culture and how they revolutionized the music industry around the world. Auto-tune and pitch correction are programmes used to automate a singer’s voice up to their heart’s content (Hadhazy, 2010). Therefore, with both auto-tune and pitch correction, programmes like these were considered cheat codes (Reynolds, 2018). However, this issue changed over time. The existence of auto-tune became one of the most revolutionary programs today. By using Leon Festinger’s (Harmon-Jones & Mills, 2019) cognitive dissonance theory and taking the occurrence of auto-tune, this paper studies the factors and the reasons why auto-tune is used by singers from all over the world. The article argues that tuned instruments and voices can affect the quality of performances emotionally.
