"This manual is a user-friendly, comprehensive description of the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) model of autism treatment, the latest scientific information on what truly works in treating autism in an integrated, organized, consumable format. The book details effective early behavioral intervention, covering topics such as challenging behavior, visual modification, parental involvement, improving language, cognition, and social skills, and ends with a section that explains how all of the treatments can be put together in real-life service provision organizations. The CARD model is highly comprehensive and provides useful clinical information to form cutting-edge treatment programs."

Kroncke, Anna P.
"This book examines current and emerging techniques for the dynamic and evolving field of autism assessment. It provides a detailed, research-based discussion of the latest innovations in assessment from a practical perspective accumulated from decades of autism assessment and treatment training and experience in both educational and clinical settings. The book provides personal insights into the engaging and intriguing autism population and case studies of children who have captured the hearts and minds of clinicians nationwide. As the rates of autism have grown more than 10-fold during the past decade, researchers have questioned whether unclear diagnostic guidelines may be to blame for the high numbers of recently diagnosed children. Rather, the authors argue, tighter agreed upon methods for diagnosis of autism have allowed for more accurate identification of children who indeed require supportive treatments and therapies. This unique volume provides readers with clarity about best-practice assessment approaches from sequential and pragmatic perspectives as well as an understanding of critical issues and hurdles in ascertaining the appropriate diagnosis. In addition, myriad potential comorbid conditions or differential diagnoses are addressed. This book is a must-have resource for clinicians and practitioners as well as researchers and graduate students in the fields of child and school psychology, behavioral therapy, social work, psychiatry, pediatrics, forensic psychology, and educational and healthcare policy"--Publisher's description."

Seroussi, Karyn
"When their nineteen-month-old son, Miles, was diagnosed with autism, Karyn Seroussi, a writer, and her husband, a scientist, fought back with the only weapons at their disposal: love and research. Consulting medical papers, surfacing the Web, and networking with other parents, they traced the onset of their child's problems to an immune system breakdown that coincided with his vaccinations. As a result, his digestive system was unable to break down certain proteins, which in turn led to abnormal brain development. So Karyn and her husband got to work -- Karyn implementing their program at home while her husband tested his theories at the scientific lab where he worked.
Unraveling the Mystery of Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder is an inspiring and suspenseful chronicle of how one couple empowered themselves to challenge the medical establishment that promised no hope -- and found a cure for their child.
Here are the explanations and treatments they so carefully researched and discovered, a wealth of crucial tools and hands-on information that can help other parents reverse the effects of autism and PDD, including step-by-step instructions for the removal of dairy and gluten from the diet, special recipes, and an explanation of the roles of the key players in autism research."

The purpose of this study was to understand the Autistic Spectrum (AS) by using phenomenology method. Case study was used to achieve a holistic understanding of the AS and grounded theory was used to develop a theoretical model in the explanation of AS. The data were collected from various sources: AS individuals who can communicate verbally, autobiographies, films, and experience of the researcher. Data collection method used were interviews, observations, and text analysis.
Research results were delivered based on human development levels: sensory, cognitive, emotional and social interaction, and religious level. In general, sensory integration dysfunction are the main cause of AS behavioral problems. Many of autistic symptoms are usually their effort to adapt with the outside world. On a cognitive level, most AS individuals experience difficulties in verbal communication, but they usually have potential in a specific area such as drawing, music, poetry, and math. The sensory impediments also influence their emotional state and interactions. They tend to experience intense emotional state and find social interactions difficult to comprehend because of its complexity. AS individuals also find religion is difficult to understand, especially the emotional bond with God."
