Abstrak :
Dalam tesis ini, saya melakukan analisis pembacaan dekonstruktif dari empat novel karya Stephen King dalam konteks ideologi rasisme dan anti-rasisme. Saya tertarik melakukan analisis ini karena pendekatan dekonstruksi merupakan suatu pendekatan postsrukturalisme yang dinilai kontroversial. Selain itu, saya tertarik menerapkannya disebabkan oleh sifatnya yang `membangkang' terhadap paradigma-paradigma lama (dalam hal ini di negara Barat), sehingga banyak dikecam oleh pendekatan-pendekatan konvensional yang sudah ada. Empat novel yang saya pilih adalah IT, The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three, The Green Mile dan Bag of Bones. Saya memilih empat novel ini dari kurang lebih 50 novel-novel King karena peranan tokoh-tokoh kulit hitam di dalamnya dominan dalam keseluruhan penceritaan, sehingga representasi mereka menarik untuk dianalisis. Selain penggunaan pendekatan dekonstruktif, saya juga menerapkan satu teori sosiologi, terutama yang berhubungan dengan orang-orang kulit hitam dan orang-orang kulit putih, sebagai acuan dalam melakukan analisis. Didalamnya terdapat istilah representasi dan stereotipe yang merupakan dua istilah umum yang berkaitan erat dengan hubungan sosial antara orang-orang kulit hitam dengan orang-orang kulit putih. Pendekatan lain yang saya terapkan dan juga berperan dalam analisis adalah pendekatan kajian budaya, terutama yang berhubungan dengan pemilihan novel populer. Ideologi juga merupakan konsep atau kategori penting dalam kajian budaya. Untuk menjelaskan istilah ideologi yang saya gunakan, saya meminjam definisi ideologi dari Anthony Fasthope dan Ben Agger, kemudian dihubungkan dengan analisis tesis. Setelah menyelesaikan analisis pembacaan dekonstruktif empat novel yang dipilih dalam konteks ideologi rasisme dan anti-rasisme, saya berpendapat bahwa pendekatan dekonstruktif adalah suatu pendekatan yang menarik dan menantang untuk dilakukan. Saya berpendapat pendekatan ini telah memberikan warna baru dalam keragaman jenis kritik sastra yang telah ada.

In this thesis, I would like to do the analysis of deconstructive reading in four novels of Stephen King, in racism and anti-racism context. I am interested in doing this analysis because the deconstruction approach which is chosen is one of the post structuralism critical approaches that is considered to be controversial. One of the reasons is that one of its characteristics that `rebels' against the old-established paradigms (especially in the West). Later on, this caused criticism from other more conventional existed approaches. The four novels that have been chosen are IT,The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three, The Green Mile and Bag of Bones. I chose these particular four novels out of about fifty novels written by King, for the reason that the roles of the black characters in these novels are quite dominant, thus their representation is interesting to analyze. Besides the use of deconstructive approach, I also apply a sociology theory, particularly about the relation between the blacks and the whites. There are two significant terms in it, which are used in the analysis. They are representation and stereotype. Another approach applied that also play important roles in the analysis is the cultural studies approach. This approach is particularly related to the popular novels which are chosen, and the ideology, which are ones of important concepts or categories in cultural studies. To explain the term ideology used, I borrow the definition from Anthony Easthope and Ben Agger, which later connected with the analysis. After finishing the deconstructive reading of the four novels chosen in the context of racism and anti-racism ideology, I am of the opinion that deconstructive reading is a very challenging and interesting approach. I also believe that this approach has contributed a new insight to the variety of literary criticisms.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap kontroversi dari kebijakan-kebijakan politik Presiden Harry S. Truman yang berpihak pada penegakan hak-hak sipil kaum Afro Amerika dengan dua keputusan besar yang dikeluarkan Truman, pertama, Executive Order 9981: Establishing the President 's Committee on Equality of Treatment and Oppurtunity in the Armed Services dan ke dua, pembentukan President 's Commission on Civil Rights. Beberapa ahli mengasusmsikan bahwa kebijakan politik anti rasisme tersebut membahayakan masa depan karir politik Truman. Dalam tesis ini, saya ingin menujukkan benarkah keberpihakan Truman pada penegakan hak-hak sipil kaum Afro Amerika membahayakan karir politiknya. Hipotesa yang saya ajukan adalah bahwa posisi dan masa depan karir politik Truman pada hakekatnya tidak terancam, tapi malah sebaliknya kebijakankebijakan politik yang mencerminkan keberpihakan Truman pada penegakan hak-hak sipil kaum Afro Amerika tersebut menguntungkan bagi karir politiknya, baik jangka pendek maupun jangka panjang. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan sosiologis dan politis, saya menemukan bahwa kebijakan politik anti rasisme Truman bukanlah sesuatu yang membahayakan karir politiknya, justru itu menjadi kekuatan dan membangun citra positifnya untuk menghilangkan bayang-bayang kebesaran Presiden Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Kebijakan tersebut juga sekaligus mencerminkan visi, misi, dan memberikan implikasi positif pads karir politiknya, balk jangka pendek maupun jangka panjang. Truman memenangkan pemilu 1948 dan is tercatat sebagai tokoh yang sangat berjasa dalam perjuangan penegakan hak-hak sipil kaum Afro Amerika. Pada bagian akhir dari penelitian ini saya membuktikan kebesaran hipotesa yang saya ajukan. Tesis akhir saya adalah eksistensi kaum kulit hitam sangat bermanfaat dan dapat mendukung karir politik seorang presiden.

This research is aimed to discuss the controversy resulted from President Harry S. Truman's political policies which supported Afro American civil right. He issued two important policies, firstly, Executive Order 9981: Establishing the President's Committee on Equality of Treatment and Opportunity in the Armed Services and secondly, the founding President 's Commission on Civil Rights. Some expert assumed that anti-racism political policies harmed Truman 's future political career. In this thesis, I intended to figure out whether Truman 's support to Afro American civil rights harmed his political career, or vice versa. My hypothesis was that Truman's future political career basically was not in danger; even his political policies gave advantages to his future political career, both in short and long term. By applying sociological and political approaches, I found out that Truman's anti-racism political policies were not harmful to his political career. However, those became his strength and gave him positive image to release from the shadow of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Those also reflected his vision, mission and gave positive implication to his political career, both in short and long term. Truman won the election 1948 and he was honored as one of outstanding people in preserving Afro American civil rights. By the end of this research, 1 proved that my hypothesis was right_ My final thesis is that the existence of black people is very beneficial and it can support political career of a president.

Topik Penelitian ini membahas diskriminasi, rasisme, dan supremasi kulit putih dalam iklan layanan masyarakat Jerman MTV-Deutschcreme. Iklan ini ditayangkan pada tahun 2010 oleh saluran You Tube Kontrastfilm GmbH & Co. KG Mainz yang menganggap adanya ideologi supremasi kulit putih, rasisme, dan merendahkan orang kulit hitam dalam iklan tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat bagaimana pesan anti-rasisme dalam iklan tersebut dibentuk dan mendekonstruksi ideologi yang melingkupi orang kulit hitam dalam iklan berbahasa Jerman tersebut. Konsep ideologi dalam iklan menggunakan konsep yang dikemukakan oleh Storey bahwa ideologi merupakan bentuk citra ideal yang berusaha menarik perhatian melalui cara-cara yang digunakan dalam teks, termasuk iklan sebagai produk media untuk menampilkan citra tertentu di dunia. ......Topic This research discusses discrimination, racism and white supremacy in the German public service announcement MTV-Deutschcreme. This ad was aired in 2010 by the You Tube channel Kontrastfilm GmbH & Co. KG Mainz which considers the ideology of white supremacy, racism, and demeaning black people in the ad. The purpose of this research is to see how the anti-racism message in the advertisement is formed and deconstruct the ideology surrounding black people in the German advertisement. The concept of ideology in advertising uses the concept proposed by Storey that ideology is a form of ideal image that seeks to attract attention through the ways used in texts, including advertising as a media product to display a certain image in the world.
