"Baja ASTM A36 memiliki tingkat keuletan dan ketangguhan yang cendrung tinggi, tetapi baja ini seperti material lainnya tidak akan lepas dari fenomena korosi. Salah satu metode untuk menghambat terjadinya fenomena korosi adalah menggunakan metode pelapisan. Jenis pelapisan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah jenis zinc-rich epoxy. Penelitian ini menerapkan 5 (lima) jenis metode persiapan permukaan yaitu: (i) solvent cleaning, (ii) hand tool cleaning, (iii) power tool cleaning, (iv) abrasive blasting serta (v) power tool to bare metal cleaning. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perbedaan metode persiapan permukaan terhadap ketahanan korosi dan kekuatan adhesi pada baja ASTM A36 yang dilapisi oleh zinc-rich epoxy. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setiap metode persiapan permukaan menghasilkan tingkat kebersihan dan kekasaran permukaan yang berbeda-beda. Pengujian Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) menghasilkan nilai error yang bervariasi dan tinggi. Nilai error yang terbaik dimiliki oleh sampel power tool to bare metal dengan nilai error sebesar 5.4582. Sampel yang memiliki ketahanan korosi yang terbaik adalah sampel yang memiliki nilai pelebaran goresan terkecil pada pengujian salt spray. Sampel tersebut dimiliki oleh sampel abrasive blasting, yaitu sebesar 0,22 mm dengan rating number 9. Pengujian X-cut tape tidak dapat membedakan pengaruh dari setiap metode persiapan permukaan. Hasil dari pengujian pull-off menyimpulkan bahwa kekuatan adhesi dari metode abrasive blasting memiliki kekuatan yang tertinggi, yaitu sebesar 2.78 MPa. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa semakin tinggi tingkat kebersihan dan kekasaran permukaan, maka semakin baik performa dari cat zinc-rich epoxy dalam ketahanan korosi dan kekuatan adhesi pada baja ASTM A36. Metode abrasive blasting terbukti sebagai metode persiapan permukaan yang paling optimal untuk mendapatkan ketahanan korosi dan kekuatan adhesi yang terbaik dibandingkan dengan metode persiapan permukaan lainnya.

ASTM A36 steel has a high level of ductility and toughness, but this steel, like other materials, will not be free from corrosion phenomena. One method to inhibit the occurrence of corrosion phenomena is to use the coating method. The type of coating used in this study is a type of zinc-rich epoxy. This study applied 5 (five) types of surface preparation methods, namely: (i) solvent cleaning, (ii) hand tool cleaning, (iii) power tool cleaning, (iv) abrasive blasting and (v) power tool to bare metal cleaning. This study aims to determine the effect of different surface preparation methods on corrosion resistance and adhesion strength of ASTM A36 steel coated with zinc-rich epoxy. The study results show that each surface preparation method produces different levels of cleanliness and surface roughness. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) testing produces variable and high error values. The best error value is owned by the power tool to bare metal sample with an error value of 5.4582. The sample that has the best corrosion resistance is the sample that has the smallest scratch-widening value in the salt spray test. The sample belongs to the abrasive blasting sample, which is 0.22 mm with a rating number of 9. X-cut tape testing cannot distinguish the effect of each surface preparation method. The results of the pull-off test concluded that the adhesion strength of the abrasive blasting method had the highest strength, which was 2.78 MPa. It can be concluded that the higher the level of cleanliness and surface roughness, the better the performance of the zinc-rich epoxy paint in corrosion resistance and adhesion strength to ASTM A36 steel. The abrasive blasting method is proven to be the most optimal surface preparation method to obtain the best corrosion resistance and adhesion strength compared to other surface preparation methods.
