......Islamic civilization, which was constructed by Arab Muslims by spreading its influence to various regions in the world, has presented a number of intellectual leaders. The city of Bukhara is one of the Transoxiana regions which is currently in the modern Uzbekistan, Central Asia, that was conquered by the Arabs in 709 AD. In the period 961-997 AD, under the rule of the Samanid Dynasty, the city of Bukhara was transmitted to be a center of Islamic scientific and cultural civilization in Central Asia. However, currently, studies of the history of Islamic civilization in Bukhara have not received as comprehensive attention as studies of the history of Islamic civilization in other regions. The research method used in this research is a type of qualitative research that is reviewed historically-descriptively, and is equipped with library research data collection techniques. The results of the research show the development of Islamic civilization in Bukhara in the fields of religious science, literature and translation, as well as art and architectural design during that period. The city of Bukhara also presented intellectual figures who had a major contribution and influence in the history of Islamic civilization in the world, including Imam al-Bukha.

This volume brings together the results of international and interdisciplinary long-term studies on the new desert ecosystem and is divided into four main sections. The first section provides an overview of the physical characteristics of the area and covers geological, pedological, geomorphological and climatological aspects and their dynamics, especially dust-storm dynamics. The second focuses on the biotic aspects and highlights the spatial and temporal patterns of the flora and fauna. In the third section studies and projects aiming to combat desertification by phytomelioration and to develop strategies for the conservation of biodiversity are presented. The book is rounded off with a section providing a synthesis and conclusions.

ABSTRACT
The end of Cold War generates new dynamics in Central Asia. The collapse of the Soviet Union makes this region an arena that perpetuates the inclusion of states interests. Moreover, the rising Russia is targeting the region as an object of domination while trying to bind Central Asia into its sphere of influence. Meanwhile, Uzbekistan, which wants to break the Russian domination and be a regional hegemony concurrently, seeks for alternatives that not only engaging Russia, but also creating relations with others, such as United States. Therefore, this study will discuss the strategy and reason behind Uzbekistan?s hedging as states behavior towards great powers.

This book summarizes a long-term research project addressing land and water use in the irrigated areas of the Aral Sea basin. In an interdisciplinary approach, natural and human sciences are combined to elucidate the challenges of economic transition that affect the use of land, water and biological resources, ecological sustainability, economic efficiency and the livelihoods of the local population. The research focuses on Khorezm, a region in Uzbekistan, located on the Amudarya river, in the heart of Central Asia. A series of chapters describes the biophysical environment and the aspects of society and institutions that shape land and water use. The book discusses options and tools to improve land and water management, and to reform the economic system management, based on agronomic, hydrological, economic ans social studies and modeling. The insights are not only important for Uzbekistan, but for all countries in transitions and irrigated dryland areas elsewhere.
