cari oleh bangsa Eropa. Melimpahnya rempah-rempah menimbulkan keinginan bangsa Portugis yang pada saat itu
berada di Malaka ingin menguasai perdagangan dan politik di wilayah Maluku. Tercatat 20 orang Gubernur pernah memerintah di Ternate sebagai bentuk usaha Portugis dalam monopoli kekuasaan dan perdagangan. Salah satu gubernur yang ditugaskan sebagai utusan Raja Portugis, yakni António Galvão. Sebagai gubernur ketujuh, Galvão
telah menghasilkan banyak kebijakan dan karya yang berguna untuk kehidupan masyarakat Ternate. Mendapat
julukan sebagai Bapak Portugis pada masa itu, Galvão sangat berjasa dalam bidang pendidikan, penyebaran agama, serta manuskrip sejarah di Ternate.
