Abstrak :
Drawing on his background as an architect specializing in housing, environmental issues, and holistic design, David Pearson compiles a collection of "environmentally clean" and "spiritually healthy" buildings from around the world and across the centuries. ......Whereas the architecture today is considered as a threat to sustainability, traditional buildings were built and used in harmony with nature. Hanok, a traditional house of Korea is a great example of architecture along with the sustainability. And out of many of its components, sustainable ventilation system is to be highlighted. With the analysis of the natural ventilation system in Sungyojang Hanok, a possibility of further development of sustainable idea in architecture will be discussed and established.

......Pemulung (waste picker) is a profession found profoundly in developing countries. Sustainable architecture has connections with pemulung activities, e.g. the principle of 4R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Regenerate). Meanwhile, everyday can be used as a perspective to observe how pemulung's interaction with their daily living spaces can occur. The focus of this thesis is pemulung daily life experience at domestic and urban scale stated as sustainable architecture observed by everyday viewpoint. Pemulung, as everyday actor in both scale, has certain roles in sustainable architecture.

Amerika Serikat melalui U.S. Green Building Council menjawab tantangan ini dengan mengeluarkan Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). ......Global environment problem is commonly discussed nowadays along with its prevention. In fact, buildings sector consumed 50% fossil fuel, the greater, compared with transportation sector and industrial sector. It s easily to imagine that architecture donated mostly CO2 as the primary factor for global environment and climate change problem from this fact. The discussion for sustainability has gained since 1970. Sustainability concept has developed by the researchers made it easily to understand. The green building is known better for community as its concept. Still, a building stated as green building, could not definite properly because there is no manual standardization. USA through US Green Building answers the challenges with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) system. The system explains the base thinking of sustainable architecture aspects and its planning strategy as the implementation. LEED stimulate sustainable building planning spread and produce buildings with efficient water and energy. To socialize this issue, world conferencing had brought and agreed to build World Green Building Council. Afterwards, some countries has started to establish their own Green Building Council and adopted LEED system from USA. Indonesia has established Green Building Council of Indonesia on March 12th 2008. Its mission is to implement LEED for sustainability building. As respond for the issue, author makes research on buildings in Indonesia, take place in Jakarta and Surabaya, compared to LEED in USA. The aim is to make LEED implemented in Indonesia base on existing condition. From this research, we could conclude that before Green Building Council of Indonesia had established, buildings in Indonesia has had implemented the planning strategy as the respond for the environment problems caused by the buildings itself.
