Abstrak :
This article studies the matter of ḥisāb and ru’ya, particularly conducted by the following two extremely well-known socio-religious organizations, NU and Muhammadiyah. The reason for this choice is that the two for most of Indonesian people is the symbol of difference, even, of dissension among its Muslims referring to the thought of lunar calendar in Indonesia. The choice and the usage of the two matters frequently take place to determine the beginning of Ramaḍān, Shawwāl, and Dhū’l-Ḥijja in spite of the others. Therefore, it is necessary to deal with how the relation between NU and Muhammadiyah is due to the matters. To find out the answer for the inquiry theoretical framework developed by Ian G. Barbour i.e.: Conflict, Independent, Dialogue and Integration will be exercised.

Penelitian ini membahas konflik identitas antara NU dan Muhammadiyah serta strategi eksistensi masing-masing kelompok dalam novel Kambing dan Hujan 2015 karya Mahfud Ikhwan. Dengan pendekatan struktural, ditemukan bahwa konflik dan strategi eksistensi adalah unsur dominan dalam struktur naratif teks. Hasil analisis menunjukkan perbedaan pandangan keagamaan dan karakter fanatik menjadi penyebab konflik. Berbagai bentuk konflik dan strategi eksistensi yang kemudian dilakukan kedua pihak melibatkan kepemilikan dan konstelasi kapital dalam pertarungan arena. Kapital budaya yang dimiliki kelompok Muhammadiyah menjadi alat utama eksistensi dan negosiasi menembus dominasi kelompok NU yang lebih memiliki kapital simbolik dan sosial yang dihasilkan dari kekuasaan dan otoritas yang dimiliki. Analisis struktur naratif juga memberikan temuan bahwa unsur-unsur NU dan Muhammadiyah hadir di dalam teks dengan seimbang dan proporsional. Hal ini disimpulkan sebagai ketidakberpihakan teks pada satu ideologi tertentu. Akhir cerita berupa pernikahan dari tokoh utama yang berasal dari dua ideologi berbeda NU dan Muhammadiyah menjadi metafora penyatuan kedua kelompok tersebut yang bersedia hidup bersandingan dan berbaur.

ABSTRACT
This research discusses about conflicts and strategies used by NU and Muhammadiyah in striving for their existence in Mahfud Ikhwan rsquo s Kambing dan Hujan 2015 . Using structural approach, it is found that conflicts and strategies in striving for existence are dominant story element in the narrative text structure. The analysis shows that the difference in religious thoughts and sense of fanaticism has become factors to conflicts. The conflicts and strategies used has involved the distribution of different kinds of capital. Muhammadiyah rsquo s cultural capital become the main resource and negotiation tool to penetrate the domination of NU in which valued the symbolic and social capital. The analysis also shows that the elements of NU and Muhammadiyah in the text are presented fairly and proportionally in which indicates the independence of text between two opposite ideologies. The marriage between two different character of NU and Muhammadiyah in the ending of the story become a metaphor of unity or integration.
