Abstrak :
Penelitian berjudul “Konstruksi Makna Budaya Merantau di Kalangan Mahasiswa Perantau” ini memilih mahasiswa perantau asal daerah Minangkabau yang tergabung dalam Unit Pencinta Budaya Minangkabau Universitas Padjadjaran sebagai narasumber penelitian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pemaknaan mahasiswa perantau tentang budaya merantau, motif mahasiswa perantau untuk merantau, dan untuk mengetahui pengalaman mahasiswa perantau selama merantau. Karena ingin melihat fenomena rsecara mendalam, maka jenis studi penelitian ini adalah fenomenologi. Adapun kesimpulan yang di dapat setelah menyelesaikan penelitian ini adalah (1) merantau bagi mahasiswa perantau adalah sebuah kebiasaan, (2) motif merantau yang dimiliki oleh seorang mahasiswa perantau dapat mempengaruhi cara mereka berperilaku selama diperantauan, (3) mahasiswa perantau mengalami beragam pengalaman pahit (negatif) dan pengalaman manis (positif) selama merantau. Saran-saran peneliti adalah (1) merantau memang dapat memperkuat tali silaturrahmi antara keluarga yang berada di kampung halaman dengan keluarga yang ada di perantauan, (2) motif merantau yang berbeda-beda bagi seorang mahasiswa perantau harus menjadi cambuk untuk mencapai kesuksesan, (3) pengalaman merantau, baik yang positif maupun yang negatif tidak boleh menjadi hambatan dalam mencapai kesuksesan. Dalam hidup di perantauan, mahasiswa perantau Minangkabau diharapkan dapat berkomunikasi dengan baik pula dengan masyarakat sekitar (masyarakat sunda).

Masyarakat Minangkabau dikenal aktif melakukan pergerakan keluar dari daerah asalnya atau disebut merantau. Merantau telah melembaga dalam sistem sosial. Itulah sebabnya penelitian geografi kebudayaan mengenai pola pergerakan dalam merantau menarik untuk dilakukan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode kualitatif dengan mewawancarai delapan informan. Pada dasarnya, merantau merupakan budaya yang digunakan untuk meningkatkan kualitas diri laki-laki Minang. Merantau dipengaruhi daya dorong dari ranah berupa sistem sosial, budaya, dan kondisi fisik serta daya tarik yang kuat dari rantau berupa perekonomian dan pendidikan yang menimbulkan kesenjangan di kedua wilayah. Faktor pribadi individu berupa motivasi dan tujuan, kekerabatan, serta identitas diri juga berperan penting dalam menentukan keputusan merantau. Pola pergerakan dalam proses merantau terlihat mengarah ke kota-kota dengan kondisi perekonomian dan pendidikan yang baik. ABSTRACT
Minangkabau community is known for actively migrating out from their origins, the tradition called "merantau". Merantau has been institutionalized in a particular social systems. The nature made the study of cultural geography regarding the movement patterns in merantau is fascinating. This research was conducted using qualitative method by interviewing eight informants. Basically, ?merantau? is a culture that is used to improve the quality of men in Minang Merantau is influenced by the outer stimuli ranging from the form of social system, culture, and physical conditions and the strong appeals of the ?rantau?, the destination areas, in the form of economic and education opportunities that constituted gaps in the two distinct regions. Individual personal factors such as motivation and purpose, kinship, and identity also plays an important role in determining the decision to undergo "merantau". ABSTRAK Penelitian ini adalah hasil pembacaan terhadap proses migrasi dan karya-karya teater modern dari seniman teater Nandang Aradea. Adapun perjalanan kreativitas seorang seniman yang mengalami proses migrasi fisik dan migrasi budaya berpengaruh pada transformasi estetika karya-karya teaternya. Melalui proses migrasi sebagai perantauan, Nandang Aradea melakukan perjalanan ulang-alik kebudayaan hasil pergerakan dari ruang (space), waktu (time) dan budaya (culture) yang berbeda antara desa dan kota, arus budaya tradisi dan modern, lokal dan global tanpa meninggalkan identitas asal yaitu kebudayaan Sunda sebagai pijakan dengan cara pandang Sunda yang kosmopolitan. Kajian etnografi biografi ini ingin menjelaskan secara dialektis antara relasi tokoh dan karyanya. Kreativitas seorang seniman memiliki hubungan dialektika dengan representasi identitas secara individual, melalui sumber pengalaman dan pengetahuan yang dipengaruhi proses kultural dan sosial dengan masyarakat di mana seniman itu berada. Upaya pemaknaan karya teater modern Nandang Aradea dilakukan dengan penggalian perjalanan ulang-alik proses berkeseniannya melalui perantauan di dalam negeri dan luar negeri yang dilakukan di empat ruang yaitu Ciamis, Bandung, Moskow dan Banten. Nandang adalah seniman teater yang melakukan pencarian pengetahuan teater modern Indonesia di Bandung, selanjutnya mendalami teater modern Barat di Moskow dan melakukan peleburan seluruh pengetahuan dan pengalaman berteaternya di Banten dengan puncaknya menciptakan bentuk metode teater bernama Teater Miragarasa. Setiap perjalanan dengan perbedaan ruang, pengetahuan, pengalaman dan dinamika kebudayaan mempengaruhi tranformasi perubahan estetika karya Nandang dalam artistik dan tematik. Upaya pemaknaan perjalanan ulang-alik terhadap karya teater modern Nandang Aradea memiliki hubungan korelasional dengan empat konteks utama yaitu identitas budaya, migrasi (merantau) dan transformasi estetika menuju Teater Miragarasa.
ABSTRACT The research is resulted from the reading toward the migration process and the works of modern theater of the dramatist Nandang Aradea, by which the creativity journey of the artist experienced the process of physical migration and cultural migration that affected the aesthetic transformation of his theater works. Through the migration process of Merantau (wandering about to new places), Nandang Aradea did the cultural inter-space shuttle journey, resulted from the movement among different spaces, time, and culture between urban and suburban (village), between the flow of traditional and modern culture, between locality and globalism without leaving behind his former identity, that are, the ethnicity of Sundanese culture as its root and a cosmopolitan Sundanese as way of life. This ethnography biography research will depict dialectically the relation between the figure and his work. The creativity of an artist has the dialectic connection with the representation of his individual/self-identity through the source of his experience and knowledge that is affected by the cultural process in society. The effort of constructing the meaning of Nandang Aradea?s modern theater works is done by digging the inter-space shuttle journey of his artistic process through the migration process in the four spaces: Ciamis, Bandung, Moscow, and Banten. Nandang was a dramatist who sought for knowledge about modern Indonesian theater in Bandung, then continually broadened his study in modern European theater in Moscow and assimilated the whole knowledge and theater experience in Banten by creating a form of theater methodology named Miragarasa Theater. Each journey with different spaces, knowledge, experience, and cultural dynamic affect the transformation of Nandang?s aesthetic works in the scope of artistic and thematic. The effort of constructing the meaning between Nandang Aradea?s inter-space shuttle journey and his modern theater works is correlated with the four main contexts: cultural identity, the migration journey (Merantau), and aesthetic transformation that leads to Miragarasa Theater.

Abstrak :
The aim of this paper is to expose an informal entrepreneurial learning pattern that is undertaken by the Minangkabau tribe in Indonesia and relate it to cultural dimension and perceived value of a society. This informal entrepreneurial learning pattern is called as ‘Merantau’ - which can simply be meant as ‘to emigrate’, in which the young males (mostly during the ages of 15-20, or even younger) leave their homeland; move to other places nationwide or abroad, and running entrepreneurial activities for their daily life. The existence of merantau as an informal cultural based entrepreneurial learning for the young Minangkabau tribe combined with their cultural dimension and perceived values have contributed to the creation of and bring positive impacts to entrepreneurial culture of the Minangkabau tribe. The Minangkabau tribe, as one of tribes in Indonesia, experiences very supportive social environment in which entrepreneurial culture is recognised as part of the way of life. Therefore, Minangkabau tribe is known as one of the most entrepreneurial tribes in Indonesia. This paper considers perceived value and cultural dimension that may bring consequence to entrepreneurial culture of a society, with particular analysis to Minangkabau tribe in Indonesia. Analysis is undertaken by considering the elements and index of cultural dimension and perceived values of a society that can create and intiate entreprenuerial habits and relate them to entrepreneurship. Result of the analysis shows an evidence that culture of a society also plays an important role to create and maintain entrepreneurial habits and experience of a society. Together with cultural dimension of a society, perceived values that a society has, also contributes to the creation of entrepreneurial culture of that society. This is shown in the context of the Minangkabau tribe who is well known as an entrepreneurial tribe in Indonesia. However, this study analyses one single cultural background from a specific tribe in Indonesia and since it was undertaken to a single cultural background, it will be worth to extend this study and investigation into several cultural and value backgrounds from various ethnic groups/tribes in Indonesia or any other countries. Comparatively, this will add knowledge and dimension regarding entrepreneurship and its relationship to cultural dimension and perceived values of a society/community/ethnic group.
