This study provides an overview of the problems faced by LGBT people in Indonesia. There are four issues raised, namely, the meaning of gender and sexual orientation, violence and abuse, the role of the state, and the meaning of happiness for LGBT people. This study uses a sample of 60 respondents living in large cities, especially Jakarta. However, the strength of this study lies not in the survey results but in the results of the in-depth interviews. From this study it was found that respondents, in the context of a conservative state, are more open in interviews than surveys. This study unearths the meaning of life for LGBT people under a state which is repressive and absent for them.

In the US, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals report higher rates of depression compared with heterosexual and cisgender persons. To date, little is known about the mental health of LGBT adults in Thailand. Here, we examined rates and correlates of depression among a volunteer sample of Thai LGBTs. Data were collected as part of a larger cross-sectional survey study. Standardized measures of sexual orientation and gender identity, stress, coping style, and minority stressors were completed. Of the 411 participants, 40.3% met the criteria for depression. In multivariate analyses, the combined influences of sociodemographic factors, general stress, coping strategies, and minority-specific stress variables explained 47.2% of the variance in depression scores (F[16,367]= 20.48, p<.001). Correlates of depression included coping strategies and minority-specific stressors, including experiences of victimization, discrimination, and level of identity concealment. Study findings have implications for psychiatric nursing practice and the development of intervention research.

The Indonesian state protects and guarantees the human rights of every citizen. Protection of these rights is written in Articles 28A through 28I of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. With the guarantee from the state of the rights possessed by each citizen, it does not mean that the state has opened the widest possible door for its citizens to do all kinds of actions according to their own personal desires without clear boundaries. In Article 28J of the 1945 Constitution, according to Article 28J paragraph (2) of the 1945 Constitution Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender Gay is a deviation in sexual behavior. Some groups in European countries wrap the form of deviation with a "wrapper" called human rights for justification of homosexual behavior and the legalization of similar marriage. In this study there are two formulation of the problem, namely; I) What is the view of human rights in Indonesia towards same-sex marriage and homosexual behavior of LGBT people? II) What are the legal norms in force in addressing the phenomenon of similar marriages and homosexual behavior of LGBT people by considering human rights? This research is normative research with secondary data sources consisting of primary legal materials, secondary legal materials, and tertiary legal materials. Using data collection techniques with literature studies and interviews. While the data analysis uses qualitative analysis so that the form of this research is evaluative research. The approach taken is the conceptual approach, legislative approach and historical approach. The purpose of this study is I) The purpose of writing this paper is to explain more about the human rights perspective in Indonesia in addressing homosexual behavior of LGBT people and same-sex marriage. II) to explain the legal norms in Indonesia in responding to homosexual behavior of LGBT people and same-sex marriage based on consideration of the concept of human rights in Indonesia In the end, this research concludes I) that based on irrational natural law theory with theorocentric views will see homosexual and marital behavior of a kind not part of human rights, but based on rational natural law theory with an anthropocentric view will see this as part of human rights. II) Indonesia is a country that adheres to irrational natural law theory with a theoretic view, so that homosexual and marital behaviors of a kind have actually contradicted Pancasila, Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage and Law Number 39 of 1999 concerning Human Rights Suggestions from this study suggest that the Indonesian Government formulate legal norms that prohibit similar homosexual and marital behavior.

Although Indonesia poses as one of the countries that disapprove of LGBT rights, the fans of LGBT romantic fictions in this country keep growing by the years. This research explores the relationship among print exposure of LGBT romance fiction, readers‟ empathy towards LGBT characters in the stories and readers‟ attitude towards LGBT in real life. The result shows that there is no significant correlation between print exposure of LGBT romance fiction and readers‟ empathy (r = -.113, p > .05). However, print exposure and readers‟ empathy can predict readers‟ attitude around 7% rate (F(2, 181) = 7,78, p < .01, R2 adjusted = .069), but only print exposure can significantly predict the construct (Beta= -.282, t(184) = -3,93, p < .05).

...... This study aims to determine the effect of religiosity on intergroup bias. A total of three hundred and forty-four participants, people aged 17 to 65 years in the online study. Measurement tools, intergroup bias and religiosity were used to measure the relationship between religiosity and intergroup bias. The results of statistical analysis with Multiple Linear Regression show that religiosity has a significant negative effect on intergroup bias. Meanwhile, the dimension of Islamic religiosity is the strongest predictor of attitudes towards atheism and the dimension of ihsan religiosity is the strongest predictor for LGBT awareness. So it can be denied that religiosity has an effect on intergroup bias with Islam as the strongest predictor of attitudes towards atheism and ihsan as the strongest predictor of LGBT attitudes. Due to this fact, the results are expected to become a reference for research to understand this phenomenon of intergroup bias. Social groups and organizational organizations should consider in future studies to get a clearer picture about bias between groups.

Kai, Cheng Thom
Abstrak :
Kai Cheng Thom grew up a Chinese Canadian transgender girl in a hostile world. As an activist, psychotherapist, conflict mediator, spiritual healer, and celebrated writer, she's always pursued the same deeply personal mission: to embrace the revolutionary belief that every human being, no matter how hateful or horrible, is intrinsically sacred. But then Kai Cheng found herself in a crisis of faith, overwhelmed by the viciousness with which people treated each other, and barely clinging on to the values and ideals she'd built her life around: justice, hope, love, and healing. Rather than succumb to despair and cynicism, she gathered all her rage and grief and took one last leap of faith. Kai Cheng began writing letters to everyone she has trouble holding in her heart-those seemingly beyond saving. She wrote to dead people, exes, prostitutes, johns, monsters, transphobes, and racists; to the fantasy man she still longs for, to the ones who hurt her, and to the ones who watched. In writing these love letters, Kai Cheng found herself not only rediscovering and deepening her faith in humanity, but falling back in love with being human.

Human rights as convened through international law and the United Nations should be universal. However, in implementation, in the interest of the state, state sovereignty, religion and culture, the universality of human rights has been restricted by the state or certain parties. Subsequently, the implementation of human rights has become relative in Indonesia. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender/transsexual (LGBT) issues have been protested at the local and national levels. It remains that the state has the responsibility to recognise, protect and fulfil the human rights of LGBT Indonesians. This paper will explore how LGBT human rights are implemented in Indonesian policy
