Teknologi komunikasi personal telah tersebar di berbagai kelompok usia, membuat hubungan antara manusia dengan teknologi terjadi semakin mendalam. Berdasarkan orientasi teoritis apparatgeist, penelitian ini mengkomparasi persamaan dan perbedaan persepsi serta penggunaan smartphone pada pekerja migran Indonesia yang mendapatkan kehidupan krusial, dukungan sosial, serta mencapai tujuan melalui smartphone. Menggunakan paradigma positivis, pendekatan kuantitatif, metode survei terhadap 142 responden, dan menganalisis 6 variabel dependen menggunakan ANOVA serta post hoc, hasil menunjukkan bahwa tidak semua hipotesis yang diajukan dapat diterima. Dari penelitian ini didapatkan hasil bahwa persamaan dari generasi X, Y, dan Z terdapat pada variabel sikap terhadap smartphone di ruang publik dan penggunaan smartphone untuk tujuan instrumental. Generasi Z memiliki frekuensi komunikasi yang lebih intens melalui pesan serta penggunaan smartphone untuk tujuan ekspresif. Generasi Y memiliki kecenderungan paling tinggi dalam mempersepsikan smartphone sebagai barang fashion berdasarkan tampilannya dan memiliki toleransi yang paling tinggi dalam penggunaan smartphone di ruang publik. Generasi X memiliki tujuan paling kuat dalam menggunakan smartphone untuk keamanan. ......Widespread of personal communication technology across various age groups create a deeper relation between machines and humans. Based on the apparatgeist theoretical orientation, this study compares the similarities and differences in perceptions and use of smartphones among Indonesian migrant workers who obtain crucial livelihoods, social support, and achieve goals through smartphones. Using a positivist paradigm, a quantitative approach, a survey method of 142 respondents, and an analysis of six dependent variables using ANOVA and post hoc tests, the results show that not all hypotheses can be accepted. The findings suggest similarities between the X, Y, and Z generations in the variables of attitudes toward smartphones in public spaces and the use of smartphones for instrumental purposes. Generation Z has the highest frequency of communication through messages and the use of smartphones for expressive purposes. Generation Y has the highest tendency to perceive smartphones as fashion items based on their appearance and has the highest tolerance for using smartphones in public spaces. Generation X has the strongest intentions of using smartphones for safety/security.
