"Fuzzy engineering and operations research? is the edited outcome of the 5th International Conference on Fuzzy Information and Engineering (ICFIE2011) held during Oct. 15-17, 2011 in Chengdu, China and by the 1st academic conference in establishment of Guangdong Province Operations Research Society (GDORSC) held on Oct. 20, 2011 in Guangzhou, China. The 5th ICFIE2011, built on the success of previous conferences, and the GDORC, first held, are major Symposiums, respectively, for scientists, engineers practitioners and Operation Research (OR) researchers presenting their updated results, developments and applications in all areas of fuzzy information and engineering and OR. It aims to strengthen relations between industry research laboratories and universities, and to create a primary symposium for world scientists in Fuzziology and OR fields.
The book contains 62 papers and is divided into five main parts : fuzzy optimization, logic and information, the mathematical theory of fuzzy systems, fuzzy engineering applications and soft computing methods, OR and fuzziology and guess and review.

"The present book includes a set of selected extended papers from the second International Joint Conference on Computational Intelligence (IJCCI 2010), held in Valencia, Spain, from 24 to 26 October 2010. The conference was composed by three co-located conferences: The International Conference on Fuzzy Computation (ICFC), the International Conference on Evolutionary Computation (ICEC), and the International Conference on Neural Computation (ICNC). Recent progresses in scientific developments and applications in these three areas are reported in this book. IJCCI received 236 submissions, from 49 countries, in all continents. After a double blind paper review performed by the Program Committee, only 30 submissions were accepted as full papers and thus selected for oral presentation, leading to a full paper acceptance ratio of 13%. Additional papers were accepted as short papers and posters. A further selection was made after the Conference, based also on the assessment of presentation quality and audience interest, so that this book includes the extended and revised versions of the very best papers of IJCCI 2010."

"Penjejak panas merupakan suatu alat untuk mendeteksi dan menunjukkan suatu sumber panas di sekitarnya. Penjejak panas ini dapat pula menunjukkan suatu sumber panas yang bergerak. Pergerakkan sumber panas tersebut menyebabkan perubahan arah dari penjejak papas, sehingga diperlukan pengendali umpan balikk agar diperoleh basil yang diinginkan. Dalam tugas akhir ini digunakan pengendali berbasis logika fuzzy yaitu pengendali umpan batik yang mendasarkan pengendalinya pada teori logika fuzzy. Tujuan penerapan logika fuzzy tersebut adalah untuk memperbaiki respon sistem kendali dalam mencapai kestabilannya. Perangkat keras yang digunakan dalam tugas akhir ini terdiri dari tiga bagian yaitu bagian antarmuka PC, penggerak motor dan pendeteksi sensor.
Antarmuka PC berfungsi untuk mengatur pengalamatan dan jalur data antara perangkat lunak dan perangkat keras. Pendeteksi sensor memberikan masukan pada perangkat lunak fuzzy, melalui antarmuka PC, kemudian penggendali fuzzy memberikan keluaran pada pernggerak motor. Dalam analisa respon keluaran sistem dipakai parameter setling time, persen overshoot, steady state error dan kestabilan sistem. Selain itu dianalisa juga perubahan parameter dalam sistem logika fuzzy serta perubahan waktu sampling pada slat ini. Hasil analisa menunjukkan bahwa pemakaian pengendali logika fuzzy dapat memperbaiki tanggapan respon sistem kendali penjejak panas. Aplikasi penjejak panas ini dapat digunakan sebagai hulu rudal pengejar pangs, pendeteksi letak sumber kebakaran dan lain sebagainya."

"The unexpected and premature passing away of Professor Ebrahim H. "Abe" Mamdani on January, 22, 2010, was a big shock to the scientific community, to all his friends and colleagues around the world, and to his close relatives. Professor Mamdani was a remarkable figure in the academic world, as he contributed to so many areas of science and technology. Of great relevance are his latest thoughts and ideas on the study of language and its handling by computers.
The fuzzy logic community is particularly indebted to Abe Mamdani (1941-2010) who, in 1975, in his famous paper An Experiment in Linguistic Synthesis with a Fuzzy Logic Controller, jointly written with his student Sedrak Assilian, introduced the novel idea of fuzzy control. This was an elegant engineering approach to the modeling and control of complex processes for which mathematical models were unknown or too difficult to build, yet they could effectively and efficiently be controlled by human operators. This ground-breaking idea has found innumerable applications and can be considered as one of the main factors for the proliferation and adoption of fuzzy logic technology.
This book constitutes a posthumous homage to Abe Mamdani. It is a collection of original papers related in some way to his works, ideas and vision, and especially written by researchers directly acquainted with him or with his work. "
