"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami bagaimana mahasiswa FISIP UI sebagai pemilih pemula menentukan pilihan mereka pada Pemilihan Presiden (Pilpres) Indonesia tahun 2024. Studi-studi sebelumnya telah banyak membahas perilaku pemilih secara umum, tetapi belum banyak yang menyoroti dinamika sosial di lingkungan kampus sebagai arena politik. Preferensi politik mereka cenderung terbentuk melalui interaksi dengan lingkungan sosialnya, seperti keluarga, teman, media sosial, dan institusi pendidikan. Namun, studi terdahulu kurang mengeksplorasi lebih lanjut mengenai motivasi spesifik pemilih pemula dan alasan di balik keputusan politik mereka. Di sisi lain, studi lainnya membuktikan bahwa mereka cenderung lebih rasional karena membuat keputusan politik berdasarkan pertimbangan logis. Maka, penelitian ini berargumen bahwa preferensi mahasiswa dalam pemilu terbentuk melalui hubungan dinamis antara aspek rasionalitas dan lingkungan sosial yang mereka miliki.  Dalam konteks ini, teori Strategic Action Field (SAF) digunakan untuk menjelaskan bahwa pilihan politik mahasiswa terbentuk lewat interaksi antar aktor dalam medan sosial, yang menciptakan dinamika kekuasaan, pengaruh, dan negosiasi makna politik. Pilihan tersebut bukan sekadar hasil keputusan pribadi, melainkan terbentuk oleh posisi sosial dan respon terhadap isu-isu yang ada. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan wawancara mendalam terhadap mahasiswa FISIP UI, untuk memahami lebih jauh proses rasionalisasi mereka dalam menentukan pilihan. Lewat penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan baru mengenai proses pembentukan preferensi politik mahasiswa sebagai pemilih pemula, serta apa aspek-aspek yang melatarbelakanginya.

This research aims to understand how students of FISIP UI, as first-time voters, formed their political preferences in the context of the 2024 Indonesian Presidential Election. While previous studies have widely examined voter behavior in general, few have explored the social dynamics within university environments as a political arena. Students’ political preferences are often shaped through interactions within their social environment, such as family, friends, social media, and educational institutions. However, earlier studies have paid limited attention to the specific motivations and reasoning behind first-time voters' political decisions. On the other hand, some research suggests that young voters tend to be more rational, basing their choices on logical considerations. This study argues that students' political preferences are formed through a dynamic relationship between rational assessment and the influence of their social environment. Within this context, the theory of Strategic Action Fields (SAF) is applied to explain how political choices emerge through interactions among actors in a social field, where power relations, influence, and the negotiation of political meaning take place. These choices are not merely personal decisions, but are shaped by social positioning and responses to prevailing issues. This study employs a qualitative method through in-depth interviews with FISIP UI students, in order to explore their rationalization processes in making political decisions. It is expected that this research will offer new insights into how political preferences are formed among first-time student voters and the factors that influence those preferences."
