Penelitian kuasi eksperimen ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas metode pemelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD pada kemampuan membaca pemahaman teks recount siswa kelas VIII dan persepsi siswa di kelompok eksperimen terhadap metode ini. Penelitian ini melibatkan satu kelas eksperimen yang terdiri dari 35 siswa dan satu kelas kontrol yang terdiri dari 33 siswa yang diambil menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Untuk memperoleh data, pre-test, kuis, post-test, kuesioner, dan wawancara digunakan. Berdasarkan hasil uji hipotesis menggunakan ANOVA one way pada nilai post-test, hasil Fhitung 4.730 lebih besar dari Ftabel 3.99. Hasil ini menyatakan bahwa H0 ditolak dan HA diterima. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara nilai kedua kelas setelah mendapatkan perlakuan yang berbeda. Berdasarkan hal ini, peneliti menyarankan penggunaan metode pemelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa kelas VIII.

ABSTRACT
The aims of this quasi experimental research were to investigate the effectiveness of cooperative learning method type STAD on the 8th graders' reading comprehension of recount texts and to find out the experimental group students' perception towards this type of method. This research involved one experimental class which consisted of 35 students and one control class which consisted of 33 students that were taken by using purposive sampling technique. To obtain the data, pre-test, quiz, post-test, questionnaire, and interview were employed. Based on the hypothesis test using ANOVA one way on post-test scores, it was found that Fcount 4.730 was greater than Ftable 3.99. The findings indicated that H0 was rejected and HA was accepted. Thus, it could be concluded that there was a significant difference between both classes' scores after gaining different treatments. In addition, most of the experimental group students had positive perception towards STAD. Based on this, the researcher recommends the use of cooperative learning method type STAD to improve the 8th graders' reading comprehension.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bahwa pemelajaran kooperatif tipe Two Stay Two Stray efektif untuk diterapkan pada pemelajaran kosakata bahasa Inggris kelas 7 SMP dan untuk mengetahui persepsi pelajar terhadapnya. Penelitian ini dilakukan di salah satu SMP swasta di Kabupaten Bogor pada kelas 7 SMP tahun ajaran 2017/2018 semester genap yang menggunakan kurikulum 2013. Peneliti melakukan penelitian menggunakan non-equivalent control group sebagai desain penelitian. Peneliti mengambil 52 pelajar pada SMP Y sebagai sampel penelitiannya berdasarkan random sampling. Sampel tersebut terbagi atas 26 pelajar untuk kelas eksperimental dan 26 pelajar untuk kelas kontrol. Kelas eksperimental merupakan kelas diadakannya metode pemelajaran kooperatif tipe Two Stay Two Stray sedangkan kelas kontrol merupakan kelas dengan metode pemelajaran konvensional. Hasilnya menunjukkan pelajar di kelas eksperimental meraih rata-rata nilai post-test yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan rata-rata nilai post-test kelas kontrol. Berdasarkan Uji-T Independen terlihat rata-rata nilai post-test pada kedua kelas memiliki perbedaan nilai dengan bukti sig 2 tailed 0,033 < taraf signifikansi 0,05 dengan level beda antara kedua kelas mencapai angka 0,356 cukup signifikan . Pelajar juga memberikan tanggapan yang positif terhadap pemelajaran kooperatif tipe Two Stay Two Stray ini.

ABSTRACT
The aims of this research were to find out whether Two Stay Two Stray TSTS as one type of cooperative learning could be effective in learning English vocabulary for 7th grade Junior High School students and how students perceived it. The research conducted on grade 7 in one of the schools in Bogor academic year 2017 2018. The researcher conducted the research by using non equivalent control group as a design. There were 52 students as sample divided into experimental group and control group. Experimental group is the group that is given the treatment TSTS while control group is the group that use conventional teaching. The results show that the students in the experimental group achieved higher mean scores on post test than the students in the control group. Based on Independent T Test, mean score in experimental group had different mean score with control group with moderate level of difference 0.356 . The students also had positive perception of the TSTS.

Penelitian ini dilakukan di sebuah pesantren modern yang memadukan pengajaran muatan ke-Islam-an dan umum. Kurikulum di pesantren ini juga mewajibkan para siswa menguasai bahasa Arab dan Inggris. Akan tetapi, sebelum penelitian ini diadakan, peneliti menemukan bahwa tingkat penguasaan bahasa Inggris siswa di sebuah ekstrakurikuler kebahasaan masih terbilang rendah. Peneliti juga mengetahui bahwa metode pengajaran yang kerap diterapkan oleh tenaga pendidik sebelum penelitian ini diadakan masih bersifat individual. Oleh sebab itu, peneliti mengadakan penelitian tindakan kelas sebagai upaya peningkatan penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris siswa dan sikap mereka terhadap pemelajaran kooperatif metode STAD. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian tindakan kelas. Pada siklus pertama, peneliti mengelompokkan siswa berdasarkan homogenitas jenis kelamin dan heterogenitas tingkat penguasaan kosakata. Hasilnya, rata-rata nilai pos-tes kosakata siswa masih rendah. Pada siklus kedua, peneliti mengelompokkan siswa berdasarkan homogenitas penguasaan kosakata dan heterogenitas jenis kelamin. Ternyata, nilai rata-rata pos-tes siklus kedua justru mengalami penurunan. Kemudian, peneliti melakukan pengelompokan berdasarkan homogenitas jenis kelamin dan penguasaan kosakata di siklus ketiga. Sebagai hasilnya, penguasaan kosakata para siswa mengalami peningkatan yang signifikan. Tidak hanya itu, hasil kuesioner pasca siklus ketiga juga menunjukkan adanya sikap positif siswa terhadap penerapan ancangan pemelajaran kooperatif metode STAD. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa guru bahasa Inggris di pesantren perlu memperkenalkan pemelajaran kooperatif metode STAD kepada para siswa sebagai metode alternatif untuk mempelajari kosakata bahasa Inggris. Selain itu, guru harus memahami kondisi setiap siswa dalam pengelompokan sehingga pemelajaran dapat terlaksana dengan efektif.

ABSTRACT
Modern Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia usually adopts both the teaching of Islamic and general sciences as well as requires the students to be proficient in Arabic and English. However, since the focus of the curriculum orients more towards the Islamic content, the students' English proficiency is in need of attention. This thesis aims to assist students in improving their English proficiency, particularly on the mastery of vocabulary and attitude towards STAD cooperative learning method. This research was an action research study conducted in an Islamic boarding school located in Bogor, West Java. It employed a quantitative qualitative method with classroom action research design in three cycles. In the first cycle, the researcher grouped students based on gender homogeneity and heterogeneity of vocabulary mastery levels. The result indicated the student's vocabulary post-test scores were low. In the second cycle, the researcher grouped students based on the homogeneity of vocabulary mastery and gender heterogeneity. The result indicated that the value of the second cycle post-test decreased. In the final cycle, the grouping was based on the homogeneity of gender and vocabulary mastery. The result indicated that the students' vocabulary mastery increased significantly. In addition to that, the results of the questionnaire after the third cycle also showed a positive attitude towards the application of the cooperative learning approach to the STAD method. This study suggests that the STAD cooperative learning method to students can serve as an alternative method for learning English vocabulary and raise awareness of the students' grouping.
