The Social Stratification of Sundanese-Indonesian Phonetic InterferenceThis study is focused on Sundanese-Indonesian phonetic interference and their co-variation with social variables such as class, age, and using of Sundanese compared to Indonesian. The data was collected on two main styles, i.e., simple text reading and word list reading. The identifying of phonetic realization in respondent speech assisted by the CECIL software. To claim that interference is coming from Sundanese, neither from another languages, the study takes Weinreich's criteria of bilingualism that emphasize using of both languages in active interaction. In other word, the understanding without speaking bilingual treated as nonbilingual speaker. It is very important because there are too many speakers who are using Arabic in Islamic ritual but they never use Arabic in daily conversation. The selected respondent was Sundanese and Indonesian speaker only. The study find out that at least three of the social features have a strong correlation to the interference. The lowest interference level placed by the young speaker (second generation) with high education and with high frequency to speak in Indonesian than Sundanese. The middle position placed by the young speaker with lowest education level and speak in Sundanese more frequently than Indonesian. The other side placed by the first generation with at least middle education level. Between three main positions above spread the speakers with combination of social features, but the high to middle position dominated by the first generation and the middle to lowest level interference dominated by the second generation. This finding accepted by T-Student analysis on 95% significant degree.

......This research discusses the analysis of German vowel pronunciation errors made by children from a shelter house called Cahaya Anak Negeri during learning sessions. This is qualitative research that uses a descriptive approach. The data taken for this research used the listening method and recording techniques with the help of a cell phone. The results of the recording were transcribed into phonetic writing style by the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and analyzed using phonetics and errors theory by Rues et al., Dieling Hirschfeld, as well as Edge. The results showed there are several respondents who make mistakes in the pronunciation of German vowels. The dominant vowel that mistakenly pronounces is a short sound of [ʏ], [œ], dan a long sound of [øː]. The errors were found in the form of omission of the vowel sounds, changes of the vowel sounds, and the addition of the vowel and consonant sounds. Based on the analysis results, the respondents made errors were an error called Irrtümer or error, where the respondents have learned the subject during classes, but still make mistakes. Some factors influence the occurrence of errors, namely the differences in Indonesian and German vowel sounds, one of which lies in the quantity of long and short vowel sounds and their graphemes.

Abstrak :
This accessible new textbook provides a clear and practical introduction to phonetics, the study of speech. Assuming no prior knowledge of the topic, it introduces students to the fundamental concepts in phonetic science, and equips them with the essential skills needed for recognising, describing and transcribing a range of speech sounds. Numerous graded exercises enable students to put these skills into practice, and the sounds introduced are clearly illustrated with examples from a variety of English accents and other languages. As well as looking at traditional articulatory description, the book introduces acoustic and other instrumental techniques for analysing speech, and covers topics such as speech and writing, the nature of transcription, hearing and speech perception, linguistic universals, and the basic concepts of phonology. Providing a solid foundation in phonetics, Introducing Phonetic Science will be invaluable to all students beginning courses in linguistics, speech sciences, language pathology and language therapy.
