Abstrak :
Penelitian yang berjudul Giant Step dan Musik Rock Progresif di Indonesia 1970-1985 berusaha mengkaji sejarah perkembangan musik rock progresif di Indonesia pada tahun 1970 hingga 1985 yang ditandai dengan hadirnya grup musik Giant Step. Penelitian tersebut dikembangkan dengan metode sejarah. Tahap pertama yang dilakukan adalah heuristik kemudian verifikasi, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Aliran musik rock progresif mulai populer di Indonesia pada periode 1970-an. Kepopuleran aliran musik progresif rock mulai pudar pada periode 1980-an seiring berakhirnnya grup musik Giant Step. Grup musik Giant Step merupakan salah satu pelopor yang memberikan pengaruh terhadap dunia musik Indonesia. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah penulis mengangkat perjalanan grup musik Giant Step yang memperkenalkan sekaligus mempopulerkan aliran rock progresif di dalam perjalanan sejarah dunia musik Indonesia. ......This research is using historical method Giant Step and Rock Progressive Musik in Indonesai 1970 1985 is try to review the progress of progressif rock music in Indonesia history in 1970 to 1985 era which is marked by the exsistence of a music group called Giant Step. This research is develop using historical method. The progressive rock genre became popular in the 1970 rsquo s era. Unfortunately, this popularity come to an end along with the end of the Giant Step group. The Giant Step is one of the breakthroughs artist in the progressive rock genre and very influential in Indonesia music history. The result of this research is the Giant Step as one of the artist progressive rock is success to introduce and popularized the progressive rock genre in the Indonesia music history.

Skripsi ini merupakan sebuah studi mengenai perjalanan karier grup musik Slank periode 1983-1996 dan pengaruh mereka terhadap gaya hidup generasi muda, terutama para Slankers. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa selama periode 19831996, Slank telah banyak mencatat prestasi. Di antaranya adalah penghargaan BASF Award sebagai grup musik rock pendatang baru tahun 1990 dengan jumlah penjualan album yang mencapai angka 300.000 copy. Dalam perjalanannya, para personel Slank sempat terjerumus dalam lembah narkotika dan menjadi pecandu berat. Gaya hidup seperti ini yang kemudian juga turut diikuti oleh para Slankers. Segala perilaku para personel Slank, baik positif dan negatif diikuti oleh para Slankers.

This thesis is a study about the career journey of rock band Slank in 1983-1996 and its influence to the life style of young generation, especially the Slankers. The result of this study shows that during the period of 1983-1996, Slank had recorded many accomplishments. One of the achievements is the BASF Award for the best newcomer rock band in 1990, with the total album selling reached 300.000 copies. In their journey, Slank noted a black record in their career as drugs addicts, by which many of their fans followed this kind of life style. It seems that almost all of the Slank personnel behaviors, whether they?re positive or negative, are followed and imitated by the Slankers.
