ABSTRAK Pengembangan cara baru untuk mengekstrak logam dari bijihnya terus di coba dari waktu ke waktu. Seiring berlalunya waktu, ilmuwan dan insinyur di seluruh dunia telah berusaha menemukan metode ekstraksi yang lebih efisien dan bermanfaat. Indonesia adalah salah satu produksi beras unggulan dengan produk sampingan dari produksinya yaitu sekam padi. Pemanfaatan produk sampingan ini belum maksimal. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mempelajari pemanfaatan sekam padi sebagai bahan reduksi bijih nikel laterit. Proses reduksi telah diketahui dapat mereduksi bijih limonit menjadi NiO dan magnetit. Proses dilakukan telah meningkatkan kadar nikel dari bijih limonit dengan kadar terbaik 1.17 wt. dan telah meningkatkan kadar dengan kadar 1.15 wt. sebelumnya. Proses yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini meliputi roasting-quenching dan reduction process.

ABSTRACT
Developing a new way to extract metal from its ore has been demanded from time to time. As the time goes on, scientists and engineers all around the globe have been trying to find the more efficient and beneficial extraction method. Indonesia is one of the leading production of rice with the byproduct of that production is rice husk. The utilization of this byproduct has not been maximized yet. This research is conducted with the aim to study the utilization of rice husk as the reduction agent for nickel laterite ore. The reduction process has been known to reduce limonite ore to NiO and magnetite. Best result of Ni concentrate of the final product is 1.17 wt. . nickel content has increased from the initial concentration which is 1.15wt. . Process done in this research include roasting quenching and reduction process.
