Frankham, Richard
"The biological diversity of the planet is being rapidly depleted due to the direct and indirect consequences of human activity. As the size of animal and plant populations decrease and fragmentation increases, loss of genetic diversity reduces their ability to adapt to changes in the environment, with inbreeding and reduced fitness inevitable consequences for many species. Many small isolated populations are going extinct unnecessarily. In many cases, such populations can be genetically rescued by gene flow into them from another population within the species, but this is very rarely done. This novel and authoritative book addresses the issues involved in genetic management of fragmented animal and plant populations, including inbreeding depression, loss of genetic diversity and elevated extinction risk in small isolated populations, augmentation of gene flow, genetic rescue, causes of outbreeding depression and predicting its occurrence, desirability and implementation of genetic translocations to cope with climate change, and defining and diagnosing species for conservation purposes."

"Mathematical theories of populations have appeared both implicitly and explicitly in many important studies of populations, human populations as well as populations of animals, cells and viruses. They provide a systematic way for studying a population's underlying structure.
A basic model in population age structure is studied and then applied, extended and modified, to several population phenomena such as stable age distributions, self-limiting effects, and two-sex populations. Population genetics are studied with special attention to derivation and analysis of a model for a one-locus, two-allele trait in a large randomly mating population. The dynamics of contagious phenomena in a population are studied in the context of epidemic diseases."

Rumor is an important form of social interaction in society and its spread has a major impact on human life. In this thesis, we will develop a mathematical model based on Susceptible-Infective-Counter-Refractory (SICR) compartment model. We modify the model by including the birth rate, mortality rate, an intervention from the government to reduce the spread of rumors. We conduct a dynamic analysis regarding the existence and local stability of each equilibrium point of the model. Furthermore, we show how the corresponding basic reproduction number holds an important role in these qualitative behaviors. We find that a massive policy from the government suppressing the spread of rumors is crucial in the dynamic of the rumor among the population. Some numerical simulations were conducted regarding the sensitivity analysis and autonomous simulation to see the evolution of each compartment on our model with respect to time. The sim- ulation shows that there is a critical value for each of the parameters that describe the government intervention and the intensity of social contact between Susceptible individ- uals and Infective individuals that become the threshold, where if it passes the threshold, the rumor will spread in the population."
