Abstrak :
Kajian perancangan ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi potensi arsitektur naratif dengan metode perancangan berbasis potongan-potongan memori. Dalam prosesnya, batas-batas dan kualitas keruangan arsitektur dibentuk melalui identifikasi potongan-potongan memori dalam suatu perjalanan. Diskursus arsitektur telah lama mengeksplorasi pendekatan narasi. Namun, pada era kemajuan teknologi yang pesat saat ini, di mana pembangunan telah mencapai ranah virtualitas dan gravitasi sudah tidak lagi relevan, arsitektur dirasa telah dapat meninggalkan batasan-batasan fisik yang selama ini ada untuk kemudian mengoptimalkan kemampuannya dalam menyampaikan suatu narasi dalam bahasa keruangan yang terbentuk. Melalui kajian ini, dengan dilandaskan gagasan memory palace, saya mencoba untuk menggunakan arsitektur sebagai medium dalam mengomunikasikan perjalanan memori hidup saya, yang kemudian memungkinkan pembaca untuk turut mengalami perjalanan memori tersebut. Metode penyusunan memory palace ini menjadi sistem operasi pembentukan ruang arsitektur, di mana fragmen-fragmen memori dikonstruksikan kembali berdasarkan sebuah alur perjalanan pengalaman memori. Pada akhirnya, studi yang dilakukan dalam perancangan ini diharapkan dapat berkontribusi dalam ilmu perancangan arsitektur berlandaskan narasi. Arsitektur naratif berbasis fragmen memori ini berkontribusi pada metode perancangan yang dapat menghidupkan memori terhadap ruang dan waktu, serta hadir secara personal dan menembus batasan fisik konvensional yang ada. ......This study aims to explore the potential of architectural narrative driven by fragments of the memory. In the process, boundaries and spatial qualities of architecture are identified through fragments of memory. Architectural discourses have long explored the narrative approach. However, in the era of advanced technology we now live in, where construction has reached the virtual realm and gravity is no longer relevant, architecture is now able to transcend beyond the existing physical boundaries to optimise its capacity in conveying a narration. Through this study, based on the notion of memory palace, the author aims to utilise architecture as a medium to communicate the journey of the author's life memories and invite the reader to experience the journey as well. In this study, the memory palace method serves as the operation system of spatial construction, where memory fragments are to be reconstructed based on a path of the memory journey. Finally, this exploration aims to contribute to the architecture design method driven by narrative. Narrative architecture driven by memory fragments allows architecture to bring to life our memory within the space and time, to become more personal, and also to transcend the conventional physical limitations.

Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk menelusuri bagaimana performing reader mensimulasikan ruang naratif berdasarkan ketidaklengkapan narasi di sebuah teks. Penelusuran dilakukan dengan melihat bagaimana performing reader memahami ruang naratif dengan mengisi celah informasi berdasarkan imajinasi, pengetahuan, dan pengalaman pribadi, yang kemudian menjadi basis rekonstruksi ruang naratif melalui pembentukan peta mental. Proyeksi tubuh performing reader terhadap peta mental tersebut akan menciptakan simulasi ruang naratif. Studi ini menganalisis buku “The Midnight Library” oleh Matt Haig melalui dua tahap, yaitu (1) identifikasi celah informasi dalam narasi “The Midnight Library” dan (2) analisis pengalaman performing reader melalui simulasi ruang naratif berdasarkan ketidaklengkapan narasi. Tahap pertama mengidentifikasi celah informasi spasial dan sensorik berdasarkan bagian narasi berbasis setting dan peristiwa. Tahap kedua menganalisis pembentukan peta mental spasial dan sensorik ruang naratif oleh performing reader, dan pengalaman performing reader melalui simulasi ruang naratif berdasarkan embodied simulation. Hasil dari studi yang dilakukan menunjukan bahwa pembaca harus mengisi celah informasi dan membentuk peta mental hingga dapat mensimulasikan ruang naratif dan mengalaminya secara fisik. Jenis deskripsi pun berpengaruh terhadap simulasi ruang naratif yakni deskripsi eksplisit yang memberikan general framework dalam pembentukan peta mental, dan deskripsi implisit beserta celah informasi yang memberikan kebebasan pembaca untuk menginterpretasikan ruang naratif secara subjektif. ......This study aims to explore how a performing reader simulates narrative space based on the incompleteness of a text’s narrative. The exploration is conducted by examining how the performing reader understands narrative space by filling in information gaps based on imagination, prior knowledge, and personal experience, which then becomes the basis for reconstructing narrative space through the formation of mental maps. The projection of the performing reader’s body onto this mental map creates a simulation of the narrative space. This study analyzes the book "The Midnight Library” by Matt Haid through stages: (1) identifying information gaps in the narrative of “The Midnight Library” and (2) analyzing the performing reader’s experience through the simulation of narrative space based on the narrative’s incompleteness. The first stage identifies spatial and sensory information gaps based on narrative sections related to setting and events. The second stage analyzes the formation of spatial and sensory mental maps of narrative space by the performing reader, and the performing reader’s experience through the simulation of narrative space. The type of description also affects the simulation of narrative space, with explicit descriptions providing a general framework for the formation of mental maps, and implicit descriptions along with information gaps giving readers the freedom to subjectively interpret the narrative space.
