[Tesis ini membahas kegiatan perdagangan orang-orang Jepang di Hindia Belanda (Indonesia) pada kurun waktu 1920 sampai dengan 1940 karena pada kurun waktu tersebut, pasokan impor kebutuhan barang dari wilayah Eropa ke Hindia Belanda (Indonesia) terganggu karena terjadinya resesi ekonomi yang begitu berat. Pada kurun waktu tersebut Jepang berusaha untuk mengisi kebutuhan barang impor di wilayah Hindia Belanda dengan harga barang yang murah. Bagaimana peningkatan perdagangan Jepang di Hindia Belanda pada tahun 1920-1940 akan di bahas di dalam tesis ini melalui analisis dari media masa Jepang yang terbit di Hindia Belanda dalam kurun waktu 1920 sampai dengan 1940 maupun dari arsip-arsip mengenai kegiatan perdagangan Jepang di Hindia Belanda dalam kurun waktu antara tahun 1920 sampai dengan 1940. Pembahasan mengenai kegiatan perdagangan orang-orang Jepang di Hindia Belanda pada kurun waktu 1920 sampai dengan 1940 ini merujuk pada teori nanshin-ron yaitu teori mengenai ekspansi Jepang ke wilayah Selatan yang merujuk pada wilayah Asia Tenggara termasuk Hindia Belanda (Indonesia).;This study analyze the trading activities of Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) during the period 1920 to 1940. During this period the supply of imported goods from the European region to the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) had been being disturbed due to the severely economic recession. At that time Japan tried to fill imported goods in the Dutch East Indies with cheaper goods. How Japanese trading in the Dutch East Indies in 1920-1940 is analyzed in this study through the analysis of the Japanese media published in the Dutch East Indies in the period 1920 to 1940 as well as the archives of the Japanese trading activities in the Dutch East Indies in the period between the years 1920 to 1940.
