Contains recent ideas and results in three areas of growing importance in curve and surface design: algebraic methods, variational surface design, and some special applications. Leading researchers from throughout the world have contributed their latest work and provided several promising solutions to open issues in surface modeling.

Abstrak :
This monograph examines in detail certain concepts that are useful for the modeling of curves and surfaces and emphasizes the mathematical theory that underlies these ideas. The two principal themes of the text are the use of piecewise polynomial representation (this theme appears in one form or another in every chapter), and iterative refinement, also called subdivision. Here, simple iterative geometric algorithms produce, in the limit, curves with complex analytic structure. In the first three chapters, the de Casteljau subdivision for Bernstein-Bezier curves is used to introduce matrix subdivision, and the Lane-Riesenfield algorithm for computing cardinal splines is tied into stationary subdivision. This ultimately leads to the construction of prewavelets of compact support. The remainder of the book deals with concepts of "visual smoothness" of curves, along with the intriguing idea of generating smooth multivariate piecewise polynomials as volumes of "slices" of polyhedra. The final chapter contains an evaluation of polynomials by finite recursive algorithms. Each chapter contains introductory material as well as more advanced results.

The present book contains contributions presented at the Fourth Symposium on Hybrid RANS-LES Methods, held in Beijing, China, 28-30 September 2011, being a continuation of symposia taking place in Stockholm (Sweden, 2005), in Corfu (Greece, 2007), and Gdansk (Poland, 2009). The contributions to the last two symposia were published as NNFM, Vol. 97 and Vol. 111. At the Beijing symposium, along with seven invited keynotes, another 46 papers (plus 5 posters) were presented addressing topics on Novel turbulence-resolving simulation and modelling, Improved hybrid RANS-LES methods, Comparative studies of difference modelling methods, Modelling-related numerical issues and Industrial applications.. The present book reflects recent activities and new progress made in the development and applications of hybrid RANS-LES methods in general.

Abstrak :
This book constitutes the refereed post-proceedings of the International Conference on Mathematical Modeling and Computational Physics, MMCP 2011, held in Stará Lesná, Slovakia, in July 2011. The 41 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. They are organized in topical sections on mathematical modeling and methods, numerical modeling and methods, computational support of the experiments, computing tools, and optimization and simulation.
