Abstrak :
Dewasa ini, platform musik banyak digunakan oleh para penyanyi dan penulis lagu untuk menyampaikan kritik mereka terhadap isu-isu sosial di masyarakat. Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, dua musisi wanita Dove Cameron dan Taylor Swift menggunakan lagu mereka yang berjudul Breakfast and The Man untuk mengekspresikan kritik dan menantang toxic masculinity. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perbedaan strategi yang digunakan kedua lagu dan bagaimana kedua penyanyi mempersepsikan isu toxic masculinity. Untuk melakukan penelitian, makalah ini menggunakan pendekatan Multimodal Discourse Analysis (MDA) untuk menganalisis semiotika sosial dalam lirik dan video musik kedua lagu. Penelitian ini menggunakan lyrics analysis oleh David Machin dan Grammar of Image Analysis oleh Gunther Kress Theo van Leeuwen. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa kedua lagu ini memang menantang isu toxic masculinity di masyarakat. Namun, kedua musisi menggunakan strategi berbeda untuk menantang isu tersebut. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa Breakfast (2022) karya Cameron menantang toxic masculinity dengan menentangnya. Sementara itu, The Man (2020) karya Swift menantang toxic masculinity dengan cara mendukung ide tersebut. Hal ini menyebabkan perbedaan dalam cara kedua penyanyi tersebut dalam memandang toxic masculinity. ......Nowadays, music platforms are widely used by singers and songwriters to convey their criticism of social issues in society. In recent years, the two female musicians Dove Cameron and Taylor Swift used their songs entitled Breakfast and The Man to express their criticism and challenge toxic masculinity. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze the different strategies used in the two songs and how the two singers perceive the issue of toxic masculinity. To conduct the research, this paper uses the Multimodal Discourse Analysis (MDA) approach to analyze the social semiotics in the lyrics and music videos of the two songs. The study used David Machin's Lyric Analysis and Gunther Kress and Theo van Leeuwen's Grammar of Image Analysis. This research has found that the two songs indeed challenge the issue of toxic masculinity in society. However, the two musicians used different strategies to challenge the issue. The findings show that Cameron’s Breakfast (2022) challenges toxic masculinity by defying it. Meanwhile, Swift’s The Man (2020) challenges toxic masculinity by submitting to it. This leads to a disparity in the way the two singers perceive toxic masculinity.

Tulisan ini akan meneliti sifat-sifat maskulin yang direpresentasikan melalui tokoh-tokoh laki-laki di dalam novel Tschick ndash; in einfacher Sprache karya Wolfgang Herrndorf. Terdapat tiga tokoh yang akan dianalisa, yaitu Maik, Tschick, dan ayahnya Maik. Ketiga tokoh tersebut akan dianalisa sifat-sifat maskulin mereka yang paling menonjol melalui kajian gender dan seperti apa keterkaitannya dengan gaya hidup masyarakat urban. Lebih jauh lagi, tulisan ini akan meninjau apakah gender tokoh-tokoh tersebut sesuai dengan konstruksi gender yang ada di dalam masyarakat dan bagaimana peran gender masing-masing tokoh mendapat pengaruh dari anggota keluarga dan teman sebaya yang direpresentasikan dalam novel ini. Orang tua dan teman sebaya memiliki peran penting dalam proses pembentukan gender seorang remaja yang sedang dalam masa transisi. Hal ini yang akan menjadi unsur utama pembahasan dalam tulisan ini.

ABSTRACT
This paper will examine the masculine traits that represent through male characters in novel by Wolfgang Herrndorf, Tschick in einfacher Sprache. There are three characters that will be analyzed, they are Maik, Tschick, and Maik 39 s father. Those three characters will be analyzed through their most prominent masculine traits within gender studies and what are their correlations within urban lifestyle. Furthermore, this paper will examine whether the gender of those characters fit in the existing gender constructions within the community and how the gender roles of each character are influenced by the family members and peers that represent in this novel. Parents and peers does have an important role in the gender forming process of a teenager in transition. These will be the main point of the discussion in this paper.

Penelitian ini membahas novel seorang pengarang Indonesia, yaitu Clara Ng yang berjudul Tea for Two (2010). Novel Tea for Two menampilkan tema kekerasan dalam rumah tangga yang menjadi isu dalam novel. Untuk itu, penelitian ini akan berfokus pada proses internalisasi ideologi gender pada tokoh utama dalam novel yaitu Sassy, dengan menggunakan pendekatan Habitus dan Gender. Dalam penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa latar belakang budaya patriarkis membentuk pola pikir tokoh perempuan sehingga menginternalisasi secara ideologis yang menyebabkan tokoh utama perempuan dalam novel ini mengalami kekerasan simbolik maupun kekerasan fisik dalam rumah tangganya. Dengan demikian, relasi yang terbentuk adalah relasi ketidaksetaraan antara laki-laki dan perempuan serta menampilkan laki-laki sebagai pihak yang dominan.

ABSTRACT
This research discusses a novel by Clara Ng, a female author from Indonesia, titled Tea for Two (2010). The Novel expressed domestic violence in household which is increasingly prevalent and became an issue in Indonesian society. Therefore, this study focused on the process of internalization of gender ideology on female characters in the novel with Habitus and Gender approach. This research found that the cultural background of patriarchal formed mindset of women and ideologically internalized so the female characters in this novel experienced a symbolic and physical violence in the household. Thus, a relation that is formed is an inequality between men and women and show men as the dominant party.

Abstrak :
In early modern lyric poetry, the male poet or lover often appears not as powerful and masterly but rather as broken, abject, and feminine. Catherine Bates examines the cultural and literary strategies behind this representation and uncovers radically alternative models of masculinity in the lyric tradition of the Renaissance. Focusing on Sidney, Ralegh, Shakespeare, and Donne, she offers astute new readings of a wide range of texts, a sonnet sequence, a blazon, an elegy, a complaint, and an epistle. She shows how existing critical approaches have too much invested in the figure of the authoritative male writer to be able to do justice to the truly radical nature of these alternative masculinities. Taking direction from recent psychoanalytic theories of gender formation, Bates develops critical strategies that make it possible to understand and appreciate what is genuinely revolutionary about these texts and about the English Renaissance lyric tradition at large.
