Abstrak :
Konsep ‘library as a place’ dan ‘library as a space’ terbentuk dari banyaknya aktivitas dan interaksi antar manusia yang terjadi di dalam ruang perpustakaan. Perubahan perilaku manusia yang selalu dinamis dan berubah mengikuti perkembangan zaman mempengaruhi bagaimana mereka menyikapi dan memaknai keberadaan suatu ruang. Lefebvre (1991) meyakini bahwa ruang sebagai produk sosial dibentuk oleh peran orang- orang yang memiliki kontrol atas ruang tersebut. Pemaknaan terhadap ruang tersebut dibentuk oleh entitas-entitas yang saling berinteraksi di dalamnya, salah satunya adalah pustakawan. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi pemaknaan pustakawan terhadap ruang di Perpustakaan Kemendikbud. Penelitian dilakukan terhadap lima orang pustakawan yang bekerja di Perpustakaan Kemendikbud selama minimal satu tahun. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ditemukan bahwa sejak awal pendiriannya, ruang Perpustakaan Kemendikbud memang tidak dikonsepsikan sebagai perpustakaan khusus oleh pimpinan lembaga dan pustakawannya. Pemaknaan yang dimiliki pustakawan tersebut terlihat dalam praktik ruang mereka yaitu mengembangkan ruangnya untuk n pemustaka dan komunitas yang aktif berkegiatan di dalamnya. Bentuk produksi ruang yang terjadi adalah perluasan Ruang Kelas, Ruang Diskusi, dan Area Baca serta penambahan Ruang Teater Mini. Peneliti juga menemukan bahwa produksi ruang di Perpustakaan Kemendikbud tidak terlepas dari unsur politik ruang. Produksi ruang perpustakaan, baik saat pendirian maupun renovasi perpustakaan, terjadi karena adanya dorongan dari Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan sebagai pemilik moda produksi. Dalam kaitannya dengan relasi kuasa, Menteri berperan sebagai pihak yang dominan dalam menggerakkan subordinat, yaitu pustakawan, untuk mengapropriasi keinginannya. Pustakawan sebagai pihak yang termarginalisasi dalam produksi tersebut kemudian mengambil sikap untuk pustakawan sebagai pihak yang termarginalisasi, kemudian mengambil sikap untuk berapropriasi pada produksi ruang yang didominasi oleh Menteri. ......The concept of ‘library as a place’ and ‘library as space’ are formed through the interaction between people who lived in the library space. Human behavior, that are dynamic and changed along the time, reflected on how people responding and interpreting their space. Lefebvre (1991) believes that space is a social product that is formed by people who have power and control over that space. The conception of space is formed by the entities that lived and share the space. In the case of the library, librarians play an active role to control and shaping the meaning of the library space. This study aims to identify the librarian conception of the Ministry of Education and Culture library space. The study was conducted on five librarians who work at the Ministry of Education and Culture Library for at least one year. The results of the study found that the librarian and leader of the Ministry of Education and Culture Library do not concept and forming their space as a special library since the beginning of its establishment. The conception of the library as social space can be seen in their spatial practice that always putting the Classroom and Hall on their priority whenever they did a space renovation. Ministry of Education and Culture Library also adding a Mini Theater to accommodate the needs of the library visitors and community. Researchers found that the production of space in the Ministry of Education and Culture was heavily influenced by political elements. Production space at the time of establishment and renovation of the library occurred upon the encouragement of the Minister as an owner of the mode of production. In the Foucault power relation, Minister plays a role as the dominant to mobilize their sub-ordinate, materials, and labor to meet their aims. The librarian, who is marginalized parties in the production, then takes a stand to appropriate the production of space dominated by the Minister.

Pergeseran makna perpustakaan di zaman modern mengubah persepsi perpustakaan yang dulunya hanya dianggap sebagai tempat pencarian referensi atas sebuah informasi, kini dilihat sebagai tempat untuk mengembangkan komunitas dalam sebuah kota. Oleh karena itu, perpustakaan dapat disebut sebagai sebuah civic space. Civic space memiliki potensi di mana pertukaran sosial dan ekonomi terjadi, di mana masyarakat dari berbagai latar belakang bisa bertemu dengan bebas, dan di mana masyarakat dapat dengan bebas berekspresi. Pentingnya kehadiran civic space dalam sebuah kota dibarengi dengan pentingnya aspek inklusifitas untuk memastikan civic space ini dapat dirasakan manfaatnya oleh seluruh lapisan masyarakat. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bagaimana perpustakaan dapat berperan sebagai sebuah civic space yang inklusif yang diperlukan dalam lingkup perkotaan. ......The shift in the meaning of libraries in modern times has changed the perception of libraries that were previously seen only as a place to find references for information, and now they are seen as a place to develop communities in a city. Therefore, a library can be defined as a civic space. Civic space has the potential of being where social and economic exchanges occur, where people from various backgrounds can meet freely, and where people can freely express themselves. The importance of the presence of civic space in a city is accompanied by the importance of the aspect of inclusivity to ensure that all levels of society can enjoy the civic space. This paper aims to examine how a library can act as an inclusive civic space that is needed in urban areas.

Skripsi ini membahas pemanfaatan perpustakaan sekolah oleh siswa dan peran guru SMA Lazuardi GIS dalam mengajak siswa memanfaatkan perpustakaan sekolah, serta cara-cara yang dilakukan oleh guru dalam berperan mengajak siswa untuk memanfaatkan perpustakaan sekolah dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif berbentuk survei pendapat dengan pendekatan kuantitatif, dan pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan studi literatur, kuesioner serta wawancara bebas. Penentuan sampel dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik acak sederhana serta menggunakan rumus Pendekatan Slovin sehingga menghasilkan 60 orang responden, yaitu siswa SMA Lazuardi GIS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peran dan dukungan guru berpengaruh pada aktifnya siswa SMA Lazuardi GIS berkunjung dan memanfaatkan perpustakaan sekolah, baik di dalam kegiatan belajar maupun di waktu luang. Pemanfaatan perpustakaan sekolah sebagai salah satu sumber belajar disebabkan oleh berbagai macam faktor, diantaranya adalah konsep pendidikan saat ini yang menuntut pemanfaatan perpustakaan sekolah di dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar. Oleh karena itu guru SMA Lazuardi GIS memiliki berbagai cara untuk mengajak siswanya agar dapat memanfaatkan perpustakaan sekolah semaksimal mungkin di setiap kegiatan dan proses belajar. ......This undergraduate thesis covers the utilization of library of Lazuardi GIS by its students; and the roles and ways of its teacher in encouraging its students to maximize the exploit of the library in their learning activities. The type of this research is descriptive quantitative with opinion survey. Data were collected by using literature studies, questionnaire, and unstructured interviews. The sample was using simple random sampling with Slovin Approach formula, resulting 60 respondents, all of them are Lazuardi GIS students. The result indicates the teacher`s role and support affects to already pro-active Lazuardi GIS students in visiting and exploiting their school library, either in their learning activities or in leisure time. The utilization of school library by its students as one of learning resources is caused by many factors, as: nowadays education concept which requiring library to support the school learning activities. Therefore, Lazuardi GIS teachers have so many ways to encourage their students to maximize exploit the school library in every learning process and activities.

Penelitian ini membahas tentang peran perpustakaan Ruang Publik Terpadu Ramah Anak, mulai dari kondisi perpustakaan, peran perpustakaan sebagai sumber informasi, tempat pembelajaran, dan juga hiburan yang bermanfaat sebagai sumber belajar bagi anak. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan studi kasus. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui kondisi perpustakaan RTPRA Bahari dan perannya sebagai sumber belajar anak. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa perpustakaan RPTRA Bahari sudah berperan baik sebagai sumber belajar anak dan dapat menggantikan peran perpustakaan umum dalam menjangkau masyarakat lebih dekat. Hasil penelitian ini menyarankan agar perpustakaan RPTRA Bahari mengadakan beberapa layanan yang ada di perpustakaan umum. ......This study discusses about the role of library at Child Friendly Integrated Public Space starting from its condition, its role of the library as an information source, as a learning place, and also as a recreational place for children that useful as a source of learning for children. The method used in this research is qualitative method, with case study approach. This research aims to know the condition of RTPRA Bahari library and its role as learning resource for children. The results of this study shows that library of RPTRA Bahari has done its role as a learning resource for children and can substitute public libraries role in reaching the community. This study suggest that library of RPTRA Bahari should provide some services that public library does.

Looking toward the future what changes can we expect to see in how libraries use space? This volume of Advances in Library Administration and Organization (ALAO) will focus on the future of library spaces. Skripsi ini membahas tentang penerapan konsep learning commons di Perpustakaan Universitas Indonesia. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengevaluasi tata ruang gedung Perpustakaan Universitas Indonesia, dikaitkan dengan fungsinya sebagai learning commons. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif, serta menerapkan purposive sampling dalam menentukan sampel. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang didapat dilapangan menunjukan bahwa aspek-aspek learning commons yang terdapat di Perpustakaan UI diterapkan belum serius dalam menunjang kebutuhan pengguna dengan didukung perkembangan teknologi yang mudah digunakan serta fasilitas penunjang pembelajaran interaktif sesuai dengan konsep learning commons, dikarenakan ada perbedaan konsep yang diaplikasikan.
ABSTRACT
This study aimed to determine whetherThis thesis discusses about the application of the concept of learning commons in the Library of University of Indonesia. The purpose of this study to evaluate the spatial in the Library of University of Indonesia s building, linked to its function as a learning commons. The method used in this research is quantitative method, and applying the purposive sampling to determine the sample. Based on the results obtained in the field shows that aspects of learning commons contained in the Library of University of Indonesia s applied is not serious in supporting the needs of users with supported development of technology that is easy to use and supporting facilities, interactive learning in accordance with the concept of learning commons, because there are differences in the concept to be applied.
