ABSTRACT In this thesis discussed the mathematical model Susceptible-Infected-Susceptible (SIS) by considering the level of disease awareness. The dynamical behaviour of the model is analyzed. It is assumed that the recruitment rate of the population is constant, and we divided the population based on their health status into susceptible unaware and aware of the disease, and infectious. The level of awareness includes private awareness associated with direct contacts between unaware and aware populations, global awareness due to reported cases of infection and regular awareness campaign. The disease-free, endemic equilibria and basic reproduction number are shown in this model analytically and numerically. It was concluded that the disease-free equilibrium point would be stable if R0<1 , and unstable if R0>1. From the sensitivity of R0 analysis study, it was found that there is the minimum intensity for the awareness campaign so that the level of awareness manifested in the efforts of individuals to protect themselves from disease successfully eradicate the disease from the community. So, it means the efforts of individuals in protecting themselves, can have a massive effect on the existence of the disease in the community. Some numerical simulations are also included in this thesis to provide a more comprehensive visual interpretation of the results of the model study.

Thoroughly revised and updated for its Fourth Edition, a comprehensive reference on hospital epidemiology and infection control. Written by over 150 leading experts, this new edition examines every type of hospital-acquired (nosocomial) infection and addresses every issue relating to surveillance, prevention, and control of these infections in patients and in healthcare workers. This new edition features new or significantly increased coverage of emerging infectious diseases, avian influenza, governmental regulation of infection control and payment practices related to hospital-acquired infections, molecular epidemiology, the increasing prevalence of community-acquired MRSA in healthcare facilities, system-wide infection control provisions for healthcare systems, hospital infection control issues following natural disasters, and antimicrobial stewardship in reducing the development of antimicrobial-resistant organisms.
