Abstrak :
This paper presents a study of sustainable rating systems for sustainable housing that have been developed by various countries around the world. The objective of this study is to develop a framework for a rating system for housing development by taking into account local requirements. There are numerous sustainable rating systems for buildings and groups of buildings that have been developed and rating tools like Comprehensive Assessment System for Building Environmental Efficiency (CASBEE), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), British Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM), Green Building (GB) Tool and Green Star influential in the development of other rating systems. Malaysia has recently launched a rating system for buildings called the Green Building Index (GBI). However, Malaysia has yet to introduce a rating system for measuring sustainable practices in housing development. Hence, this paper reviews some available tools related to the rating of housing developments for the purpose of developing one for Malaysia. Important factors for developing a tool for measuring sustainability practices should include sustainability criteria that relates to the environment, society, economics, site/land use, communication, and transportation. An index for measuring sustainability in housing development will be developed to suit the local context. The formulated index will take into consideration the parameters in sustainable housing developed by various systems around the world. The index, called A Comprehensive Assessment System for Sustainable Housing (CASSH), will be available for further testing.

Arsitek berperan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan manusia melalui keterlibatannya membentuk lingkungan binaan bagi manusia. Lingkungan therapeutic adalah salah satu lingkungan binaan yang diciptakan oleh arsitek yang dapat memberikan kontribusi terhadap kesehatan manusia. Skripsi ini membahas kehadiran lingkungan therapeutic bagi kelompok manusia lanjut usia. Manusia dalam perkembangan hidupnya akan mencapai tahap tua dan kondisinya akan mengalami kemunduran dalam hal fisik dan psikologis. Pada lansia, kemunduran yang dialaminya dapat membuat mereka jarang berkegiatan di luar tempat tinggalnya. Tempat tinggal menjadi tempat dimana lansia banyak menghabiskan waktu didalamnya. Skripsi ini mengkaji tentang peranan tempat tinggal sebagai lingkungan therapeutic bagi lansia.

Peranan tempat tinggal sebagai lingkungan therapeutic dapat dilihat melalui dua peran yang dimilikinya yaitu sebagai fasilitator dan simbol kualitas. Peran sebagai fasilitator berkaitan dengan fungsi tempat tinggal dalam mendukung kegiatan lansia baik aktivitas fisik maupun interaksi sosial. Peran sebagai simbol kualitas berkaitan dengan informasi dan stimulasi dari lingkungan dalam mendukung pemenuhan psikologis lansia.

Dari studi kasus dapat dilihat sejauh mana tempat tinggal lansia dapat berperan sebagai lingkungan therapeuticc. Studi kasus dilakukan pada dua tempat tinggal yang dimiliki oleh lansia dan ditempati bersama keluarganya. Tempat tinggal yang dimiliki tidaklah dirancang khusus untuk lansia. Beberapa elemen dalam tempat tinggal memang berperan esensial sebagai sarana terapi karena ruang-ruang dan fasilitas yang ada mampu mendukung dan membantu kondisi lansia. Tetapi juga diperlukan sejumlah peningkatan untuk lebih memaksimalkan perannya sebagai lingkungan therapeutic. Peran lingkungan fisik tempat tinggal sebagai lingkungan therapeutic juga tidak lepas dari peran anggota keluarga lainnya yang tinggal bersama lansia.

Architects plays a part in fulfilling humans needs by its involvement in making a man made environment to humans. The therapeutic environment is one of the man made environments that is created by the architect that can give contributions to the human health. This thesis is about the presence of the therapeutic environment for the group of elderly people. Humans that is in a state of development will reach the elderly phase, which will decrease their physical and psychological abilities. To the elderly, this decrease of their abilities that they experience will make them do less activities outside their homes. Houses will be their place to do all sorts of indoor activities. This thesis will dig deeper to the role that houses play as the therapeutic environment to the elderly.

The role that houses play as a therapeutic environment can be seen as two roles that is as a facilitator and a quality symbol. The role as a facilitator is related with the function of houses that support the elders activities both in physical activites and in social interactions. The role as a quality symbol is related to the information and the stimulant from the environment that supports the fulfillment of the elderly psychology.

From the study case we could observe how far the elders houses act as a theraputic environment.The study case is done in two houses that is owned by an elder and their family. The house is not designed and built specially for elders. Some elements in the house does act as an essential for therapic facilities because the space and the facility supports the elderly conditions. But it needs some upgrades to maximize its role as an therapuetic environment. The role of the house as a therapeutic environment is also involved with other family members that is living together with the elders.
