Abstrak :
This book investigates the ways in which the evidence base is influencing complementary and alternative medicine in general and Ayurveda and allied health practices in particular. The latter have traditionally been prevalent in Asia and are now increasingly attracting interest worldwide. The book is divided into four sections, the first of which examines issues related to acquisition and evaluation of the evidence base. Evidence-based approaches to Ayurvedic diagnosis and therapy are then examined, with a special focus on management of cardiovascular and rheumatological diseases, dental care, and rejuvenating treatments. The final section explores further the challenges of applying evidence-based practice in contemporary and alternative medicine and Ayurveda with a focus upon the issues requiring urgent attention in ongoing decade. The same involves encompassing areas such as Ayurvedic pharmaceutics, practice, education and research within an evidence-based perspective.

Abstrak :
Malay medicine is one of complementary and alternative medicines in preventing and treating many diseases. However, scientific observation on Malay medicine in treating several non-infectious diseases, including obesity and cancer has not been fully documented and may be obsoleted. Thus, this review compiled several data on the potential of Malay medicine practice by consumption of Gelam honey and herb named Tinospora crispa in controlling obesity and treating cancer. In obesity study, findings revealed Gelam honey, and T. crispa significantly decreased body weight, total cholesterol, triglycerides and the glucose level compared to controls. Meanwhile, in several cancer studies, both Gelam honey and T. crispa were found inhibited colon, breast, liver and lung cancer cell growth. Although the results were at the early stage, the reported studies revealed the potential of Gelam honey and T. crispa, which are applied in Malay medicine to control obesity and treat cancers effectively in the future. The data is also useful to conserve both native natural products and to promote a significant application of Malay medicine until to date.

Evidence-based Clinical Practice (EBCP) is the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best external evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients. In neurology, practice has shifted from a rich, descriptive discipline to one of increasingly diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Providing a comprehensive review of the current best evidence, Neurology : an evidence-based approach presents this type of evidence in a concise, user-friendly and easily accessible manner. The three co-editors of this important volume are linked in their passion for evidence-based clinical practice in the clinical neurological sciences, connected to a common historical origin at the University of Western Ontario (UWO), London, Ontario Canada and influenced directly by evidence-based medicine teachings of McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario Cananda.
