Proteksi adalah pengaman pada sistem tenaga listrik yang terpasang pada sistem distribusi tenaga listrik, trafo tenaga, transmisi tenaga listrik dan generator listrik dipergunakan untuk mengamankan sistem tenaga listrik dari gangguan listrik atau beban lebih dengan cara memisahkan bagian sistem tenaga listrik yang terganggu dengan sistem tenaga listrik yang tidak terganggu sehingga sistem kelistrikan yang tidak terganggu dapat terus bekerja. Kegagalan sistem proteksi pada gardu KG02 dan KG180 di PT PLN (Persero) UP3 Tanjung Priok saat terjadi arus gangguan hubung singkat phasa-phasa disisi konsumen mengakibatkan PMT (Pemutus Tenaga) Penyulang trip. Hal ini mengakibatkan pemadaman meluas yang berdampak buruknya citra PT PLN (Persero) UP3 Tanjung Priok terhadap kehandalan jaringan. Untuk mengetahui penyebab kegagalan sistem proteksi dilakukan pengecekan CT (Current Transformer) terhadap kedua gardu. Pada gardu KG02 kontrak daya 345 kVA, CT yang terpasang dengan ratio 10/5 dan class 5P10 dengan arus gangguan 2861 A. Pada gardu KG180, CT yang terpasang dengan ratio 100/5 dangan class 5P10 dengan arus gangguan 6547 A. Dari hasil data kedua gardu diatas, kegagalan sistem proteksi terjadi pada Transformator Arus yang jenuh saat dialiri arus gangguan melebihi 2861 A dan 6547 A. Untuk mengatasi kegagalan proteksi pada kedua gardu diatas dibutuhkan penambahan CT Ring 800/5 dengan class 5P20 dengan hasil pengujian tersebut dapat menjadi acuan untuk perbaikan sistem proteksi sehingga kegagalan serupa tidak terulang kembali. ......Protection is a safeguard in the electric power system installed in the electric power distribution system, power transformers, electric power transmission, and electric generators used to protect the electric power system from electrical disturbances or overloads by separating the disturbed part of the electric power system from the existing electric power system. Not disturbed so that the uninterruptedelectrical system can continue to work. Failure of the protection system at the KG02 and KG180 substations at PT PLN (Persero) UP3 Tanjung Priok when short circuit currents occurred on the phases on the consumer side resulted in the PMT (Power Breaker) of the feeder tripping. This resulted in widespread outages which had a negative impact on the image of PT PLN (Persero) UP3 Tanjung Priok regarding network reliability. To find out the cause of the protection system failure, CT (Current Transformer) checks were carried out on the two substations. At the KG02 substation, the 345 kVA, CT power contract is installed with a ratio of 10/5 and class 5P10 with a fault current of 2861 A. At the KG180 substation, the CT is installed with a ratio of 100/5 with class 5P10 with a fault current of 6547 A. From the results of the data from the two substations above, the protection system failure occurred in the current transformer which was saturated when a fault current exceeded 2861 A and 6547 A. To overcome protection failures at the two substations above, it is necessary to add a CT Ring 800/5 with class 5P20, with the test results being a reference for improving the protection system so that similar failures do not happen again.

A properly co-ordinated protection system is vital to ensure that an electricity distribution network can operate within preset requirements for safety for individual items of equipment, staff and public, and the network overall.
