Abstrak :
Over the past two decades, ISEAS has compiled abridged articles that analyse key aspects of Southeast Asia's development and the ASEAN process. The ASEAN Reader was published in 1992 just as the Cold War ended, while The Second ASEAN Reader came in 2003 in the wake of the 1997 Asian crisis and the September 11 attacks in 2001. The past decade has not been spared its share of intense changes, with the rise of China and India bringing new challenges to the region's power equation, and the impact of the 2008 global financial crisis. Despite this, the momentum towards an integrated ASEAN community has been maintained. The articles in The Third ASEAN Reader study the trends and events of recent years, and discuss the immediate future of Southeast Asia.

Penurunan 1 proporsi shadow economy menyebabkan peningkatan output perekonomian sebesar 3.64. Sementara kenaikan 1 proporsi shadow economy yang memanfaatkan internet menyebabkan penurunan output perekonomian sebesar 5.36.
On one hand, ASEAN is now focusing on developing the internet in order to support the increase of its economic output. On the other hand, the development of the internet opens up opportunities for new sources of online income for anyone not to mention shadow economy actors. Internet is also used by the shadow economy actors to earn income yet not taxable. This phenomenon can have an impact on the decline in economic output. From this contrasting impact on economic output, the author is interested to investigate whether the development of the internet has a positive or negative impact on the economic output considering the existence shadow economy. This research is conducted in 10 ASEAN countries from 1999 2015, and find that 1 increase in the proportion of internet users led to an increase of 1.9 in economic output a 1 decrease in the proportion of shadow economy led to an increase of 3.64 in economic output while a 1 increase in the proportion of shadow economy that utilize internet led to a decrease of 5.36 in economic output.
